I chose this hospital because of its proximity to where I was staying in Colorado Because I have been involved in extreme sports throughout my life , I got to spend a lot of time in hospitals so it is easy for me to make comparisons. This hospital is nothing short of being " the worst of the worst" I was diagnosed with a bunch of broken ribs, a punctured lung and a broken Scapula , the consensus among the doctors who have examined my ex rays and CT images was that the need for a chest tube was borderline and that I will be x rayed daily for continues assessment to the need for one. During the first two days I was at the hospital I found it to be run in the most bureaucratic eastern European like fashion .. I needed to be hooked up to an oxygen mask , my nose was completely stuffed and no oxygen was going through to my body so I asked for a nasal spray /decongestant, off the counter type , nothing fancy or one that would require prescription ..it took three hours of pain and agony to get one... I was put on a normal diet and asked for a sandwich ( have not eaten for 12 hours since my last meal) the nurse told me that she needed the authorization of the head nurse to get a sandwich from a different floors fridge because the fridges on the floor I was on were empty. once again those magic 3 hours wait for a damn sandwich .. On the second day ( less than 24 hours after the injury I was already pushed into physiotherapy and still less than 36 hours after admission this occupational therapy lady comes in to prepare me for my checking out , when I question the timing she said that " you dont know what the insurance will pay for and what not , my well being was not being considered but rather the treatment was performed based on what the insurance may or may not pay... Later this rude doctor came into my room and was moving me in a rough manner , he asked me if I was using this breathing Exercise machine I was given and I answered that I did few times , he shouted back " that is not enough " and " YOU ARE GOING TO DIE " I asked him how he could determine that I did not use it enough as I didnt tell him how many times I used it . (a butcher would be a more appropriate profession for this doctor) On the third day another doctor showed up early in the morning and informed me that my lung collapsed and that it was the result of my refusing to put the chest tube..( I never refused the chest tube and went along with the hospital recommendation of continues assessment for the need) During my almost 4 days stay at this hospital I was examined or have spoken to doctors for a time period not exceeding 10 minutes in total, all the rest was with nurses. and the only bright light at that so called hospital are few nurses whom are god sent. Long story short , there are plenty of hospitals around the Denver/ Parker area , make this one the last on your list , on my 4th day at this place I packed my belonging and moved myself to a different hospital where I received a proper treatment for another full week 6 days in the ICU ...

I had a terrible ER experience here last week. I was brought in by ambulance for severe abdominal pain. The paramedic gave me some pain medication so the pain temporarily subsided. When the PA in the ER examined me, she pushed on my abdomen and triggered the pain again. I told her that and she said they would give me more pain medication. Then she and the nurse left, without giving me the call button which was across the room. The pain continued to get worse until I was doubled over moaning. The admittance nurse came in asking about insurance and told me shed tell the nurse about my pain. It was at least another 10 minutes before the nurse came back and gave me pain medicine which then took about 5 minutes to kick in. I was in severe pain with difficulty breathing for at least 20 minutes. In addition, after my pain medicine was finally administered, my oxygen level steadily dropped and the machine began beeping. It beeped for quite a while before anyone came in. A nurse came in, said my oxygen was low, gave me oxygen and left. She didnt say why it was low, didnt seem concerned it was low and got out as quickly as possible. I never found out why my oxygen saturation was low. I was asked for a urine sample without being given any direction on where to go or what to do. I was only told that I better clean well or Id contaminate the sample and they would have to cath me. Its always fun to be threatened when you feel terrible. Maybe if they post or supply instructions they would not feel the need to say something so insensitive. I left my urine sample on the counter and the nurse took it without wearing gloves and took out my IV without washing her hands. When my husband arrived the staff didnt know where I was. The admittance nurse asked him for payment before he had any idea where I was or if I was okay. He pointed that out and she let him go. Shortly after he found me, the admittance nurse came back and asked for payment again before we knew what was wrong with me. She was very rude and annoyed that we didnt want to deal with her. When the doctor came in she started summarizing a patient history that wasnt mine. She recovered quickly when I pointed out the error but that should never have happened. I will NEVER come to this hospital again. It is disorganized and not one person I dealt with seemed to care about me as a patient. It is unfortunate that when I was having a medical crisis, this team made it significantly worse with the way they handled my care. As a follow up to my original review, my total bill for this visit was over $15,000 and I was in the ER about 3 hours. For comparison, my husband went to the SkyRidge ER for approximately 7 hours, had similar treatment and tests and his bill totaled $1,900. My catscan was over $8,000 and his catscan was less than $300. There was no difference between the scans other than which hospital provided them. AVOID this hospital unless you want substandard care for an exorbitant price.

We had such hopes when we checked in. Our car was valet parked, the hospital was beautiful with the most amazing, encouraging pictures of Jesus on the walls. We were treated with courtesy and kindness the whole time. Sadly for us, the kindest people can be dangerously incompetent. Why is it necessary to answer the EXACT same set of questions for 6 different people. Do the computers not talk to each other? When a person is in extreme pain answering questions is very difficult. Mom was taken back for surgery prep before I got there. I checked in at the waiting room and was told they would come get me in about 10-15 min. When I realized Id been forgotten I called the help desk and was directed back. That was first of many times that we were "forgotten". Both Mom and the surgeon spent significant $, time and effort doing the prep work to have a biopsy from Moms spine Fedexd to a lab in CA. The surgery went well, and we were told Mom would be released the next morning about 8 am. I waited in a beautiful, peaceful waiting room. When the surgeon left after the post op consult, I was told they would come get me when Mom was released to recovery. Again, I was forgotten. By the time I called guest services, she was in her hospital room. While waiting, I went to the cafeteria. I wandered through the food area picking up food all alone. When a staff member showed up to get their meal, all of a sudden there was a cafeteria employee. The next day the various professionals who needed to sign off on the release form trickled in over the whole morning. At lunch I asked about what we still needed to be able to check out. I was told the Dr. who needed to sign off on her O2 prescription would be right over. 2 hours later I checked back and was told he should be there any minute. During this time, Moms pain meds have run out and I have to go find a nurse to do something about it. Finally, around 4 pm we learn that the Dr. forgot us and went to a Christmas party. Hell be right over. It was 5:00 before we actually checked out and the strain increased Moms pain level beyond what the drugs could handle. I would not have written this review if it were not for the worst thing of all. THEY NEVER GAVE THE BIOPSY TO THE FEDEX AGENT!!!! There is no redo for a biopsy from the spine! The negligence of this action causes Moms further treatment to be guesswork instead of targeted science. There is no apology that can fix your carelessness!
