A few months after going to see Dr. Battle i feel like I have to write this review if only to save you some money. I had read some negative reviews about Cultura but decided to give it a try for myself anyway because I couldnt find any other practice that dealt with ethnic skin as extensively as Cultura advertised. Dr Battles offices are modern, high end. His front desk staff joked and laughed the whole time I was waiting. The doctor finally saw me and greeted me with a warm handshake. My first impression was he was a laid back easygoing doctor and I believe he is. However, my consultation was very unsatisfactory. Dr Battle talked about himself and his accomplishments for the duration of the consultation and I listened and nodded politely. He then asked me about my reason for being there, smiled and called in Tamara to escort me to get my procedure done. I had to stop them shooing me out of the door to ask " Doesnt the doctor want to see the problem areas?" Dr Battle acted surprised, turned to me and asked " Would you like me to have a look at the areas?" and back into his office we go with me feeling foolish. I dont know about you but isnt this how a consultation works? The doctor discusses the problem and takes a look and advises on treatment? At this point I should have walked out but I had saved up for this and I really wanted the scar on my thigh gone and my face a little more even so I wouldnt have to use color correctors every time i put my foundation on. I ended up getting steroid shots and a few laser passes for my scar from Tamara who was very informative. I bought some products, got my prescriptions and left. As I waited in the lobby for my cab the same front desk office receptionists laughed and joked obnoxiously. I felt uncomfortable, like I was the butt of an inside joke. I called Tamara later with updates of my progress, I had a few fears the medication was too strong. I left a voicemail but never got a response. This was my experience, I felt like I wasted my money.Something good did come out of this visit. I signed up for a training course to learn more about lasers. I have since started my aesthetician training. I am going to concentrate on dark skin. In conclusion Dr. Battle is a Hollywood doctor with very little time for you. His staff does the majority of the work and his practice is nothing special. You can get the same service elsewhere where you will feel valued as a customer. Just do your research, ask about the services, go to several places before you settle on Cultura. All I did was help pay for this doctors expensive looking offices and his advertisements, theyre everywhere. All the hype but a very shoddy delivery.

Although Dr. Battle was very professional, I will not be returning to this practice. I met and spoke with Dr. Battle for about 5 minutes about my skin problems. He gave me a few recommendations on what they could do for me, then he sent me off with one of his assistants to another room so the assistant could view my problem areas and give her recommendations as well. Fyi, this also seems to be the point where they try to sell you one of their products. Anyways, the assistent was some lady with short red hair and she was very rude! Her tone was very demeaning and she seemed uninterested about any of my concerns. The whole time she kept reiterating to me how expensive the procedures were as if I couldnt afford it. I dont know her upbringing or who raised her to act that way, but she needs a serious attitude adjustment! Aside from her horrible attitude, she rushed through my entire consultation, unlike Dr. Battle who was very patient with me when I spoke with him at the beginning of the appointment. Anyways I just thought I would share my experience. I will be going to another dermatologist for further treatment and spending my money elsewhere. I hope Dr. Battle has a serious one on one with that woman, people like her are never good for a business. Before leaving, I bought their complexion blending cream. The cream comes in a very small bottle, so it does not last long. It did not work for me, so I definitely would not recommend using it if you have any larger areas with discoloration.

I am reading all of these negative attitudes or disappointments and I must say I am surprise and disappointed at the same time... Dr. Battle nor his staff has ever shown signs of rudeness or arrogant or bias for that matter.. And I have sit in the waiting room with women or all types, shapes, and complexion . Not once was any of these women, including myself was made to feel unappreciated or unloved. Actually, Dr. Battle staff is pretty friendly and you got to give them their kudos, they are all beautiful people. But if you are running a dermatologist and complexion enhancement office everyone should look the part... I think sometime people confuse arrogant with confidence and when talking to Dr. Battle I am more than sure thats what the patient saw and was just unable to decipher the difference..One cannot run a successful business nor have a dream of greatness without confidence. I strongly suggest that anyone who felt unappreciated or unloved, should give it another try... I am sure if you look in the mirror prior to going then look in the mirror upon your return you will find a happier person stirring back at you... Much love people and be blessed... any woman or man that God has bless to created something that they are passionate about deserve a shout out. So be Godly like if possible and think twice before saying things that could hurt someones livelihood, Whats the point in that!. DrBarbie :-)

Theres no free lunch---keep that in mind if you plan to go to Cultura for a "free" consultation. I went there for a consult---with full intentions of dropping some serious cash on various procedures. I was seated in a waiting area that was an ode to the doctor---over the top but acceptable. After a bit I was ushered into Battles office. I sat across a desk from him----and for the next 30 minutes this egomaniac lectured me about why he was so "blessed." He gave me his family history----dating back three generations----a rundown of all his accomplishments----background of his trophy wife and their two young daughters whose personalized "lab" coats hang in the office----and-----a description of his mega-mansion complete with photos that he implored me to view on his computer!! He even gave me its location and told me to drive by and see it ! How the hell this had anything to do with my skin is beyond me. In fact, he never as so much looked at my skin! After the doc was done with this self-serving diatribe I was dismissed to a series of assistants---none of whom had any clear understanding of why I was there. The "free consult" was anything but: it was not a consult, but rather an offensive attempt at marketing---and it was not free. I paid with my time. Battle is repulsive and his behavior is an outrage. Run---do not walk----out of Cultura.

After reading some of the negative reviews, I would have to disagree with most of them regarding the service. I would agree with the front desk receptionist report. After going for 3 visits to the office, depending on who the receptionist is you dont get a very welcoming greeting. I will chop that up too, possibly some of them may be relatives and feel to privileged to actually have to greet people for their jobs sake because they possibly feel they will always have a job. Other than that, I enjoyed the consultation and greeting from Dr. Battle. I thoroughly enjoyed his family history, his accomplishments and his goals for his children. We need to hear more positive stories from black accomplishments, especially to offset the negative we hear so often from media. I love how he promotes all skin colors but especially BLACK skin because there are not enough dermatologist that specializes in our unique skin to be treated the way it should. I love the overall atmosphere of his office, yes the wait time is long, but for my experience well worth it. The price did fluctuate after I was told twice of what it would be and then at the time of service was told $200 more but again it still turned out with good results, if it didnt I would have ended my visits. Again, overall I will be returning!
