I like Dr. Perkins and would recommend him as a dermatologist. Years ago, I was working with a dermatologist named Joseph Lee (who I really liked), but his practice moved outside downtown Washington, DC, so I was forced to find someone else. I tried two other dermatology offices, and I didnt like either. Many dermatology practices have this used car sales vibe, where you get the impression that their primary purpose is to sell you cosmetic procedures. Both of these offices provided bad service and bad medical care/analysis. I found Dr. Perks to be friendly, efficient, and professional. He gave me that all important of vibe of "This person knows what he is talking about" which was lacking from the two other dermatology offices I tried. He took the time to hear out my self-diagnosis and history, treating me with respect but also a willingness to disagree where it was appropriate. He gave me a plan of action that did not require additional visits to his office. Perkins is the real deal, and I can recommend him. I trust his judgment. I unfortunately have a couple decades of dealing with dermatologists, so I have a bunch of data points for comparison. The office receptionist who I spoke with when scheduling the appointment was funny, efficient, and respectful. I lucked out in getting on his schedule quickly.

Pros: - Dr. Perkins is an expert in his field, and his mastery of dermatology is what has kept me coming back to see him for the past few years. Ive always been impressed with his ability to quickly/efficiently and effectively diagnose and/or treat any issues Im having. Cons: - Wait times - there is always a wait/appointments never start on time, no matter how early I arrive for my appointment - Dr. Perkins is always is in a rush--while hes great with answering questions and does his best, it definitely feels rushed a lot of the time, such that you have to be assertive/proactive in asking questions, otherwise hell rush out and you wont get the opportunity to ask them. Not a huge deal once you learn his MO, just know that going in. - The office is not "modernized" - booking appointments has to be done over the phone (with the exception of new patient appointments, which can be done via ZocDoc), same with bill payment, etc. While this is standard for many offices, its worth mentioning given how many drs offices in DC have updated their practices to take advantage of technology, and can make booking a drag

I was excited to see that this facility does TCA cross as Ive been looking for doctors in the area and found none. When I called, the person who answered the phone didnt even know what TCA cross is about but its on there website. Actually, I called 3 times, the 2 said flat out they dont know about it and they dont know what tca cross is about even though its on the website, the last one said she didnt know about it shell ask the doctors to check. The next day she called me and she said Dr. Perkins, does it. I ask how much will it cost as I wanted to know first before I proceed, I only ask for the base cost as I know its always a case by case situation. She said she doesnt have any idea about the pricing, I was waiting for her to at least ask or look for more information but she sounded like she wanted to hang up the phone already because she already told me that they do perform the treatment there. I feel like the staff here at this office doesnt know any information about there services. They arent accommodating and helpful. This made me change my mind of making an appointment at this facility.

I was extremely nervous to make an appointment because I have a fear of doctors...sounds stupid right. I knew I had to go have something looked at though. They were booked full for roughly a month in advance but Dr. Perkins was one of the only dermatologists with good reviews online. The ones that had ok reviews had openings sooner, but when you need an answer about your health or if youre going for something cosmetic, you need quality and not cheap or sometimes quicker. I waited it out and it was 100% worth it. Not only did Dr. Perkins come in professional but he walked me through treatment, let me know I am healthy and good to go. He treated me, earned my trust and now I am confident that everything is good to go. I highly recommend them.

Ive been with this practice for quite a while and I have always enjoyed the interactions with their staff. In recent years I switched to Dr. Perkins in the same office who seems more specialized in some particular areas that Im interested in. I find hes very precise and efficient. He has a pleasant bedside manner that put a patient at ease. Dr. Perkins has many patients, who occasionally may run in late for their appointments. Last week, when I arrived early to wait for my scheduled appointment, I personally witnessed how his wonderful office staff and nurses tried their best to have two late patients fit into their back-to-back schedules. And yet, I was called right on time, without any delay. It was a pleasant surprise!

This was a terrible experience over all. He prescribed me for two medications and only wrote down one, so in my second appt he had no record of one of them and it was an antibiotic--if you take these daily you become immune. Then, for me to renew my prescription once my insurance changed, they ignored 2 faxes and multiple phone calls about contacting my insurance. I had to go to my pharmacist 4 times to figure out the problem. Then when I called them directly, they left me on hold for 32 minutes and I called on a second line to tell them to pick up the line. When I get back to the pharmacist, they hadnt sent the documentation so I had to wait there for an hour and did it myself. Worst patient service ever.

I called to make an appointment as a new patient and was told that the soonest I could get an appointment was over a month away. I went ahead and made the appointment and then, because it was so far out, completely forgot about it until someone called me the day of the scheduled appointment AFTER the appointment time to inform me I would be billed $50 for not showing up. I do not have $50 to spend on an appointment I did even have and resent being billed when I did not receive a voicemail, email, or mail reminder of any kind. Needless to say, I will be finding another dermatologist.

I agree with the first review below. The receptionist was horrible and rude, lectured me about the condition of the cards in my wallet, and had trouble understanding that my insurance information, which they had on file, has not changed for 20 years. The government routinely fires people like her, and you know how high their standards are. Then the nurse had me strip for the examination, seemingly oblivious to the fact that it was my first appointment. Ever meet someone for the first time in your underwear? Im not modest, but the nurse should be fired for brainlessness.

Dr. Perkins is one of the best! Dr. Perkins is an extremely knowledgeable and experienced dermatologist. He takes the time to explain everything - starting with the issue, what caused it, how to cure/resolve it, what you can expect during and after treatment. He is thorough and he is professional. If you are new to the area or are looking for a new dermatologist because you are disappointed with your current dermatologist I would strongly recommend Dr. Perkins.
