It was NOT my choice to come here. I was taken here by Ambulance when the NEW Dialysis Center I just started going to went CROOKED & had my Heart pounding @ 130+BPM!!! Coming into the ER I knew I was in a "different part of town". Most of the Staff I saw were either Unhappy with something, Uninterested in Humans or Completely Pooped by staying Long Hours at a Job they didnt like!!! The Paramedics parked my Stretcher RIGHT IN FRONT of the Nurses Station & I then saw REALLY how UNORGANIZED this DC Hospital was!! The Wait-Time before I saw anyone of note was HORRIBLE!! Thank God the Paramedics waited with me because I was on Oxygen & my Condition could easily change at any moment. Finally, after a Long While, this Admissions woman comes over & demands for my Insurance Cards. I give her my Medicare & Supplemental Insurance Cards. She says "Do you have another Insurance" because she was not Educated that The Kidney Disease Program Supplemental Insurance Card pays the 20% that Medicare does not pay!! I then get angry when she then demands me to Fill-Out a Whole Paper FULL of Multiple Choice Questions!!! I tell her I cant hardly breathe....she says "But I need you to Fill out this Paper BEFORE we Treat ANY New Patient!!" I shake my head & turn & look at the Paramedic standing beside me...he is doing the same thing, GETTING MAD! He then say "Mam, ALL THAT INFORMATION IS ON OUR REPORT!! THIS GUY NEEDS HELP NOW!!" They then take me to a Room but the Patient was STILL in it getting ready to be Discharged! We waited so long in the hallway until 1 Paramedic said he would just clean the room up himself because he saw how UNORGANIZED & UNINTERESTED the Staff were!! Of course, by this time, the Admission Lady finds out about my Insurance & they change me to another Room. Once I finally get in the Room, it was near a Shift Change....which meant my Nurse was Burnt-Out & Ready to go Home! As she sent for "Nurse Keith" to start an IV because I was a "Hard Stick", she kept huffing & puffing & mentioning it was time to go home. When Nurse Keith finally showed up, he was indeed a "1-Stick Wonder" & I was glad he didnt use my arm as a Pin Cushion or start "Fishing for Gold"!!! Shift Change... now Nurse "Neida" gets me. Off the break, she was VERY COLD, UNCARING & DISTANT!! Not only to me but to the Nice Older Latino Man who was my Roommate....and she herself was a Latina! She wanted to pass as being WHITE sooo bad that she said "My Parents are from there BUT I am from Texas!" (Not much better my dear!) SHE SEEMS TO HAVE PERSONAL ISSUES & MUST REALLY FIND IT HARD TO "LAY THAT JUNK ALL ASIDE" & DO A JOB THAT INVOLES JUST THE ATTENTION THAT SHE NEEDS HER OWNSELF!!! The Team kept Me & My Mom in the ER ALL NIGHT, then finally found a Bed & Transferred me to the 2nd Floor, where I actually had a Good & Beautiful Ethiopian Nurse named "Hibret". My High Heart Rate Broke & came back down to my Normal Rhythm when I went to use the Bathroom & did the "Vagal Manuever" while sitting on the Toilet. When I came out, my Heart Rate was 97 BPM But the Team still insisted I go to the ICU to do my Dialysis because I "had" a High Heart Rate!! (Medicare would NOT be Happy for the HUGE BILL that this Hospital created that was COMPLETELY AVOIDABLE!!!!) Other than Sucking Medicare Dry with the Inflated Price of Inpatient ICU DIALYSIS.... Dr. Hoyos, Dr. Smiley & The Night-Shift Filipina Charge Nurse Elizabeth were AMAZING & actually made me Feel Good!!! The Dialysis Staff I met were VERY CARING & KNOWLEDGEABLE....They were Candace, Rahel & Kelly. THE FOOD AT THIS HOSPITAL IS THE BEST FOOD IVE TASTED @ ANY HOSPITAL IN THE DC METROPOLITAN AREA!!! ***CHEERS FOR THAT!!!*** ALL IN ALL, I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS HOSPITAL BUT THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT REALLY DOESNT SEEM LIKE IT COULD ACTUALLY HANDLE A "REAL" EMERGENCY....THE MANAGEMENT SHOULD REALLY THINK & CONSIDER REVAMPING THE CURRENT SET-UP & RETRAINING THE CURRENT STAFF OR HIRE BETTER PERSONEL!!! IF YOU DIDNT KNOW, NOW YOU KNOW!!!

THIS PLACE IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! My cousin was admitted into this hospital, diagnosed with cancer in multiple places, had surgery on her spine, and was still treated terribly! Here are 6 reasons/ instances that you should consider. 1) After having the surgery on her spine, my cousin was barely able to walk. She was told by the doctor that she was not supposed to be walking or even moving around without assistance. Later that night, when she called for assistance to use the restroom, the nurses on duty told her to "stand-by". She eventually had to get up and painfully make her to restroom and then back to her bed WITHOUT ASSISTANCE! Not to mention there was a HUGE chair in between her bed and the bathroom door. She was put in this situation a SECOND TIME! When she called for the nurse, NO ONE CAME TO AIDE HER. This time on her way to the restroom, SHE FELL! (lawsuit pending) 2) When my family and I came to see her, there were no nurses at the nurses station. Throughout our entire visit (which lasted from about 12 noon to 7pm) we only saw ONE nurse taking care of patients. 3) The room was FILTHY! No one had been in the room to take the trash out, sweep/mop the floors, or even clean the bathroom that was meant for patients to use. 4) They had to be DEMANDED to give my cousin a sponge bath. Do you want to be clean? Well the patients do as well! 5)THERE IS NO SECURITY! Not once did anybody ask to see my ID or for whom I was there to see. I did not receive a visitors pass or anything of the sort. Anybody could just walk into the building and even of the rooms, and stay for as long as they want, no questions asked. 6) The doctors here are INCONSIDERATE! After being diagnosed with cancer, having surgery on her spine, and enduring terrible care, my cousin had to get some very bad news. However, the doctor waited until the middle of the night, when no family was with her, to tell her the bad news. Then he LIED and told her that he tried to contact her aunt (my mother) and sister. These phone numbers, as well as the phone numbers of her mother and other sisters, have been written on the board in my cousins hospital room. Not once did my mother or any other family member get a call. My cousin was left to dwell on heartbreaking news without the support of family. It wasnt until we called to check in with her that we found out about this. At this point, no one knew where the doctor had mysteriously disappeared to. 7) And just a couple of side notes: The elevators were stuffy and stinky. They smelled like mold and mildew. The hospitals air conditioning was broken. They placed one of those huge portable square fans in her room so that it would not be so hot. (At one point said fan was STOLEN out of her room and we had to search for it) In conclusion, this is a crappy hospital with crappy service, nurses, doctors, and facilities. No one who is in pain or in need of any type of care should have to endure the treatment they will be greeted with at Providence Hospital.

Where do I begin....was scheduled for a 10am c section wasnt put on the table till 3pm due to being bumped for another patient who was experiencing an emergency. I was sympathetic so finally my turn. What i didnt like is how long i lay there naked and numb from my spinal tap while the or team muddled around causauling talking and getting prep work out the way....why not get that out the way before the patient gets in there as to not prolong the wait as well as keeping the patient calm. I will say the anastizia team was AMAZING kind beyond words and made SURE my pain med needs were seen about. I experienced at times unbarable pressure and the man taking care of me was a wonderful man by the name of steven who could read my cues and new i was suffering and really saved the day. My opearating doctor had wonderful bedside manner no conplaints there i didnt like how i was used as a teaching moment and felt i was a bit of a science project as the students were asked wheres the bladder whats this whats that i just wanted to be closed up and sent to recovery asap. The nurses were very kind what i didnt like is there obvious issue with my choice to bottle feed only. I get that there a breastfeeding hospital and thats great but a womens personal choice should be respected and not questioned and challanged by countless members of the staff....by day two i felt agravaited having to explain and defend my choice. As a fourth time mom i had sucessfuly breastfeed two of my children and they both had to be given formula as well in order to keep up with there growing apetites. Every child is different and mines would often get hungry way before the suggestd four hour mark. Well at providence you can only receive a bottle for your baby every four hours NOT BEFORE so if your child is hungry you either let them starve or offer the breast even if thats NOT your plan. At other hospitals they give you a four pack of ready to feed bottles and if your baby is hungry you feed them. The newborns are not the only ones who go hungry. I starved in there. Dinner is served at 5pm nothing else till breakfeast at 7 or 8 am next morning. The nutrition personel informed me that there are always boxed lunches available but staff will not give them out willingly like if im hungry feed me lol asking for crackers and getting them depends on if your nurse takes pitty which most did but it was all hush hush. I just felt like i was given the bare minimum. Pain meds for first two were okay every six hours seemed a bit of a strech for just having major surgery but by day three nothing stronger then 800 mg multrin....Over all im just glad my child and i made it out of there alive and in one peice I woud NOT recommend or have another child here even if i was paid to. Take my chances at Howard.
