This by far has to be the worst hospital ever created. (And after the fact I found out that its actually one of the WORST hospitals in Maryland!!!! Now youll clearly understand this review.) My friend came here experiencing signs of a possible miscarriage! She was in extreme pain that defied the 1-10 pain scale. There was not anyone in the Emergency Room when we rushed in. I completely understand that employees in this career field have to remain calm, but my friend needed attention....IMMEDIATE attention.... Before my friend was placed in triage, the Front Desk receptionist looks at my friend and then her coworker and says loudly, "After this Im going on break." I was appalled! My friend is in clear pain and youre worried about a break??! They needed her blood pressure, but after 6 failed attempts they still couldnt get a decent reading....I was pissed that my friend could be losing her baby and they were concerned about a blood pressure reading. Really?? Next she needed to get some blood drawn....but the triage specialist/technician was not around and I overheard the front desk receptionist say to her coworker, "Oh, is she on another break again?" As if she stayed on break versus doing her job. Wow. The next part of this ordeal required the most strength Id had to maintain in quite a while. My friend could barely move at this point and the triage specialist had finally walked back into the building. This lady was the most unsympathetic, uncaring employee Id ever encountered in a hospital setting. It was as if she were mad we were interrupting her break or whatever she had been doing. She was rough with my friends arm and did not care. She said she couldnt place my friend in a room until she gave a urine sample and confirmed her pregnancy. My mind was reeling.....I was super upset. As this point so many other things happened that this review could become pages. We didnt see a doctor until wed been there for over 3 hours!!!! 3 hours in unbearable pain and my friend kept crying out in physical suffering and misery every few minutes. If I could have changed places with her I would have. We finally had a sonogram and even that technician said everything had to be confirmed because alot of people come in lying and looking for pain medication. I was pissed and seeing the color RED at this point. I wanted to leave, but with her condition it wasnt feasible at this stage. Her two vials of blood also sat on the counter in the ER room until discharge. Trust and believe this ordeal will not be hidden under a rug. I dont care how close in proximity this hospital is in the future, I will never come here, nor bring any of my family or friends here. I dont know if they thought we were faking or what, but I had never seen such buffoonery & absurdity in an unprofessional environment. But then again we were in Clinton (Prince George County), MD. Why should I have expected any differently? Even if I have to drive to Northern Virginia, INOVA, or another reputable hospital, I refuse to come here again. What a terrible, terrible, horrendous, unreal experience. A sorry joke and mockery of a hospital.

OMG, when is the administrators going to do something about the quality of people they hire. No empathy at all. When is MedStar going to do somthing about this so called hospital. I looked at the reviews........it is everything I noticed about the hospital. In 35 years since my grandmother passed away there it has not changed. This hospital needs to be closed down or hire new ADMINISTRATORS WHO CARE! .This is the worst hospital ever. Do not, I repeat Do not take any love ones to this hospital. My mother went to the emergency room by ambulance yesterday. It was a farce. No one would tell me or my sister anything. We sat there for over 10 hrs. Never got to speak with a doctor and only got to speak with a nurse after I went back into where the bays were. They treat patients like cattle in the emergency room. The hospital it self is no better. No one knows how to smile or treat you with some sort of caring. When I went to Moms room a nurse or tech was standing in the door way and when I tried to ask a question this woman put up her hand to stop me and then this nurse or tech yelled down the hall for everyone including my mother to hear "Someone needs to come and sit with this woman I need to pick up my kids by 8pm." What type of hospital is this that they hire and maintain staff such as this. Needless to say I will be filing a formal complaint against this hospital. Where is the empathy? If you love your family dont let them be treated at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital! You will be sorry.....I am!!!! UPDATE....on Thursday 11/5 when I visited my mother I was told that she was not eating. I explained that she has no teeth. Cant they tell? She needs soft food and she loves mashed potatoes. I was told they would let the appropriate person know. Well, I visited her again on Friday, 11/6....she was trying to eat lunch. They served her rice with hunks of beef in it. Once again I spoke with the nurse (a different one because they had moved her to another room & not told anyone) who assured me that this would be taken care of. MY MOM HAS NO TEETH OR FALSE TEETH. How hard is to notice that and give her the appropriate food to eat. Well nothing changed. Her dinner was beef a roni....yep you got it.....beef for a woman with no teeth. She also was served huge, sliced round carrots. Again I had to complain and they finally got her some mashed potatoes. I asked the people who worked there did they ever go on line to look at their reviews. I told them they were terrible. None have because like the administrators they dont care. They just want a paycheck. There is no caring in this hospital no matter what the signs say on the walls. WAKE UP and SMELL THE REVIEWS!!! You are failing.

My mom was transferred from Ft. Washington Hospital to SMH on Tuesday, 5/27/14, because she contended with severe low back pain and SMH had the necessary diagnostic equipment (MRI) to provide a formal diagnosis. As I walked down the halls of the hospital, I noticed the majority of the patients were senior citizens and even wondered if that was considered to be a special area for geriatrics. She was seen by Dr. Yazdani within a couple of hours. My sister and I met with him that evening and he appeared to be professional and thorough. He seemed to focus more on non back related vs. the back itsself and because he was the physician we didnt question it. He ordered several other tests (CT Scan, ultrasound, etc.) to allegedly rule out conditions that tend to present back pain. He also prescribed some heavy pain medications. Needless to say the MRI was not done until Friday, 5/30/14, and she was still heavily medicated with no relief for 3.5 days and no formal diagnosis. She was constantly throwing up and was seriously constipated. By Sat., 5/31, we had a diagnosis but no recommended treatment. I left verbal and written messages for the Dr. requesting more specific details regarding the diagnosis and planned treatment - no response. In between all that, it was apparent the nurses were hustling and working hard and we appreciate that (why I gave 2 stars). There was also one point where my moms blood pressure got extremely high. We later found out the Dr. ordered an IV with sodium - she has a history of high blood pressure. Still no return call from the Dr., however, physical therapy was ordered. That therapist was a Godsend because she motivated my mom to want to push forward to get out of that hospital. By Tuesday my mom was given a pain patch that pretty much eliminated 80% of her pain, then she was discharged to a rehab facility. By Wednesday, she was out of there with an unnecessary 30 day rehab order. To me, all she ever needed was that prescription pain patch. While I cant prove it, I felt like there was delay after delay for monetary gain and lots of seniors were treating there. Is there a connection? SMH is conveniently located but seriously needs some work...
