I brought my dog in for a skin problem, he was losing his fur in patches and skin was flaking off like really bad dandruff. The DVM (veterinarian) who saw him barely checked him over, then never gave any diagnosis or even hinted at what was wrong with my dog. Just prescibed anti-biotics. (Which another vet has already done, but it only temporarily cured the problem, as I told them.) I asked, "What if the problem comes back, do I bring him in again?" The DVM then mumbled something that I really couldnt understand, something like "We could do allergy testing, but I dont know how that will come out."...or something to that effect....so where does that leave me? I also didnt care for the tech (or whatever they are called, the person the dog sees before the all-important DVM comes in). She asked "Are you giving him amino acids? I said "No." She said "You should. We can give him a bottle." No explanation on WHY he should be given "amino acids," and HOW MUCH DOES THE STUFF COST. I later learned from the bill that is was $20/bottle. Which is no HUGE expense, but thats not the point. They dont even bother to tell you how much something is until youve bought it. If I have to keep asking "How much is that?" every time they mention something, it makes me uncomfortable and makes me seem as if I dont care about my dog. They did the same thing for the flea meds....mentioned what they have, but never anything about the price. That tends to get annoying. The other vet office Ive been to would give me the courtesy of telling me how much something is when they mentioned it might be good to give my pet. I only came to this clinic because it was closer to my home, but it will be the last time I bring any of my pets there.

Dont waste your time taking your loved pet to this place. If you do go theyll waste your time for you! My wife and I made an appointment for 4 PM for an annual checkup and vaccinations for our two small dogs. We left the clinic two hours and over $480 later. Despite our appointment, it took us over 45 minutes to be taken back to a check out room. Once there, we were promptly seen by two Vet techs, who vanished. After a 30 minute wait, the Vet finally showed up. We were prescribed some meds for one of my dogs skin irritation and some prescription flea / heartworm pills. We were told they would be back with our meds in a couple of minutes. Thirty minutes again pass (2, 3 or maybe even 10 minutes could be considered a couple) before my wife goes to the counter to find out what the hold up is. They stated they were still getting things together, but we could take the dogs out to the car. I then have a fifteen minute wait in the car while my wife settles the bill. A couple of notes on those antics: 1. When it takes the Vets office takes 30 minutes to get the meds together, and not all of them are there; its unprofessional. 2. When the Vet tech brings out the wrong flea treatment; again, its unprofessional. 3. Dont bother trying to sell us $36 dog shampoo, that isnt medicated. Thanks to the receptionist who mentioned using a bit of vinegar when rinsing our dog off is good enough. 4. When the office advertises a "military discount" and its less than 2% of our bill, please dont insult me. $9 out of an almost $500 bill isnt worth the effort of ringing up. I recommend finding another Vets office when you need to take care of your pets.

We visit Santa Cruz for routine dog/cat check-ups. Staff are always caring and prompt. The one time we had a true pet emergency (cat blocked urethra) they squeezed us in immediately. Apparently this is a somewhat common problem with male cats and the vet recognized it immediately. About 45 minutes later we were headed to the after-care emergency clinic with our cat where he would stay for the weekend while his bladder was continuously flushed and fluids added. Being a skeptic and ignorant to this condition I let Google verify the information Dr. G had provided and how close our cat was to death. Im confident the diagnosis was correct and a couple of months later hes back to his old self. I know our emergency pushed back other scheduled appointments and I appreciated the quick attention. If you ever visit Santa Cruz and your appointment is taking a little longer than you would like, perhaps its someone like me with a close-to-death pet being seen out of order. If the shoe is ever on the other foot Ill be understanding that a sick pet is prioritized before my routine visit.

This place is the best for your small animal/exotic pets needs! We had an emergency with our guinea pigs and they took us in last minute even on a Saturday close to closing time. And also they educate you on how to take care of your animals if youre still new to owning the pet you chose. Another time we had to bring in one of our guinea pigs because he wasnt eating, it turns out their molars sometimes get too big and they cant eat and theres really nothing to do for them at that point, so they were very compassionate and we had to put him down. They even gave us a biodegradable bag to take Patrick home to bury. You dont have to choose this option, there are other options, but we chose to bury him. This is a great place, low-cost and they fit you in and educate you as well! Very nice staff! They were even thoughtful enough to send us a sympathy card for Ol Patrick.

Took my Dachshund in for examination of an ear infection and was prescribed medication and flushing. Problem was solved and has not recurred. At that time it was found she had some of her teeth that were decayed beyond repair and had to be extracted. Made appointment for following month to have work done. After a couple of days of discomfort from the extractions she was good as new. The Doctor and staff were very friendly and kind. I was told before hand what the procedure would entail and given precise instructions on how to care for her and what to look for in her recovery. She is 12 years old, and I have had her since she was 9 1/2 weeks old. As with many other people who have had there four legged friends for long periods of time I love her immensely and would only trust her to the great staff at Santa Cruz. My highest recommendation!

Santa Cruz is by far the best animal hospital practice we have ever been to. Dr. Basciglio and staff are experienced, knowledgeable, honest, friendly, and most importantly, truly care about the well being of your pet. Their facility is clean, stocked, well organized and affordable. Our family has been a client of Santa Cruz for the last 15 years and we will not go anywhere else. You will never be disappointed with the level of care and service you and your pet will receive at this practice. We would give more than a 5 star rating if it was available. Thank you Santa Cruz for all that you do and the consistency of all you do. Our babies thank you too!! Jonathan and Roxanna Rodriguez-Jenkins
