From my point of view, one of the reasons that Animal Hospital of Dunedin stands out among veterinary offices in Pinellas County is for its abundance of highly-skilled and caring docs and techs. Because of this, despite its huge caseload of owners and pets, it has always been able to accommodate any of my dogs’ emergencies. For me, this has been a big plus -- whereas other, also wonderful vets in small offices are not as well equipped with large enough staffs and extended hours to readily accommodate issues that abruptly erupt for my elderly shihtzus. Another important reason my choice of AHOD is the warmth and courteous attention all employees extend to my dogs in booking, receiving, testing, treating (holistically, with acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and nutritional powder based on blood samples from my boys; and traditionally, with pharmaceuticals) billing, and especially in their warm interactions with my dogs. I have always asked for Dr. Manfredi, however if she has not been available for a last minute emergency, there has always been another wonderful doctor able to step in. As for Dr. Manfredi, my dogs and I have benefitted from her treatment expertise and loving care in dealing effectively with their unique and often complicated problems -- including yeast issues, some high-strung temperaments and behaviors, collapsing trachea, cervical disc disorder, and extreme need for respect and sensitivity to the boundaries of one of them. I am saddened by her upcoming relocation to another state for family reasons and will miss her terribly -- we love you and wish you the best, Dr. M! However, we are now looking forward to forming a new and rewarding relationship with another of AHOD’s exceptional docs.

Roger Caras once said, "Dogs are not our whole life but make our lives whole". He also said, "Cats dont like change without their consent." In both cases and with other pets as well, Animal Hospital of Dunedin understands such things about animals. The veterinarians and staff here are professional, courteous, knowledgeable, caring, and understanding. Over the course of many years, we cannot think of any group of people with whom we are closer when it comes to all of our four-legged "children". They saw us through the worrisome times, the happy, good news times, and we knew they were always on our side. When we rescued another Westie several months ago, the rescue organization interviewed them to ensure we were fit guardians and "parents". Because they cared enough to get to know us well, were pleased to say we passed muster. When we brought MacKenzie, home we had been told she was very frightened of the veterinarians office. We talked with the staff in advance and several of them met us at the door with treats and made over her as if she were the only dog on the planet! Needless to say, she loves going to the vets office now. Eighteen months ago, we adopted a beautiful Norwegian Forest Cat that unfortunately was running a high fever when we brought her home from the shelter. Domino was seen immediately and lovingly and effectively attended. This is our only other "home" for our beloved pets. Get to know them and, more importantly, let your pets get to know how much they care.

I had just adopted a kitten from a shelter. A few days later, he was extremely ill. The contract with the shelter said they would handle any illness for 7 days. I called. There was no answer. I was very worried for the kitten. I have just moved into Dunedin and know no one here for recommendations. I went to Google to find a vet and read some reviews. I was impressed with what I read of your hospital and appreciated the closeness. I called and you fit me right in. (Thank you!!) I arrived and filled out one simple paper. We were in to be examined within ten minutes. (Amazing.) The front staff were all very friendly and competent. The tech who took the cats weight and vitals was pleasant and respectful, explaining all that was going on and what would happen. The Vet was professional, sincere, direct, and empathetic...an impressive combination. The kitten, Maximus, is on the road to a rapid recovery. I am very thankful for the skills, empathy, and experienced judgement that saved the kitten. While I found your hospital in a moment of crisis, I assure you that you are the Vets I will have for as long as I reside in Tampa Bay. Thank you. John McMurray

I came to AHOD after hearing about Dr. B who had recently joined the staff at this hospital bringing not only his expertise in acupuncture but also his vast knowledge of Chinese & Holistic Medicines. My little girl had just been diagnosed with Cancer again and Dr. B was able to give her so much Relief that she was able to enjoy a good quality of life until she passed. Unfortunately, her Father and Mother fell victim to cancer as well but once again, with Dr. Bs help both were able To live fully functioning good quality lives right up until the very end with his acupuncture treatments and Medicines. We also had an opportunity to get them both Ozone Treatments from Dr. C who is a wonderful and compassionate doctor as well. And the prices for acupuncture treatments and medicines were very reasonable. Even though these 3 loved ones have passed I have not left AHOD and will continue to stay with these wonderful caring professionals throughout the course of my two new puppies lives. They Love going to the doctor. These folks are the best and I feel very blessed to be a part of their family which is how they make you feel.

We were referred to Dr Todd more than 10 years ago, when one of our old Goldens was having mobility problems, and our regular Vet thought that our old guy might benefit from acupuncture. Suffice it to say that the treatments were a success, and since then Dr Todd and the wonderful team at AHOD have taken care of a parade of our "old gold" family members. Each one of our guys has benefited from the professional and loving care provided by Dr Todd for a diverse array of issues. Additionally, he has worked seamlessly with our other Vets, working as a part of a team, even when that team crossed several practice groups. The standard of care offered at AHOD is of the highest caliber; they take the time to make sure that you understand what is going on, what your options are, and how each decision will effect your pet. Weve recommended Dr Todd to a number friends and colleagues over the years and, without exception, everyone has been as happy as we are with the care, attention, and professionalism provided by Dr Todd and the team at AHOD.

I had a horrible experience with a particular vet at Dunedin Animal Hospital last week. I was offered a wide variety of tests, strong pressure to hospitalize my dog for fluids (even though she has major stress under those conditions and also was drinking on her own), and no coherent plan for diagnosing the gastrointestinal problem that she presented with. The lack of emphasis on helping my dog in a way that was good for her (avoiding hospitalization unless her life was at risk) and the confusion in identifying any likely cause of her GI problems was both scary and very upsetting. I think this is a function of individual vets, and I have no doubt that some of the vets make the positive reviews for this animal hospital very well justified. Its just so important to focus on the overall animal and situation ... including financial considerations, temperament of the dog (and perhaps of the owner!) as well as the medical aspects of the situation.
