If youre seriously disturbed, homeless or homicidal, I can safely say, this is not such a bad psych unit in which to stay. The doctors are excellent. The rooms - eh! And the food is constipating. But youre kept so high on drug cocktails, that youll think youre on Space Mountain doing loop-de-loops in a Drug Disneyworld. The staff is mostly dismissive and condescending. There are a very, very few exceptions, though. As mentioned, however, youll be so high all the time, its a miracle if youll be able to recant the color of the paint on the walls once youre released. They do have compassionate care. Meaning that if you have the "wrong" insurance or "no insurance", they dont kick you to the curb. You cant say that about any other hospital in Dade or Broward county except for Jackson Memorial. And Jackson is strictly for those who think theyre Christ or Hitler or some other historical figure back to save or punish the Earth. Or so Ive heard. Stay away at all costs. Bottom line, Mount Sinai psych unit is a place, albeit uncomfortable as hell, to sleep. Its up one notch from a park bench. Safer? Not really. So stay in your room. Youre also given VIP treatment commensurate to every tooth thats missing from your mouth. So if you dont have any, I suggest eating a lot of apple sauce and peanut butter. Its definitely NOT SUITABLE FOR ADOLESCENTS. So all you psychotic fathers who want to teach their kids to not smoke pot at home - send them to Aventura. Although, there, you are risking their lives - literally. Murders of patients are not allegories, but real and recent truths. The staff at Aventura dont check on the patients as much as the staff at Mount Sinai. But then again, sex in the bathroom of the psych ward at Mount Sinai is common. Gay, straight, bi-sexual. I saw everything and anything. Even inter-racial sex. Transgenders are especially welcome. But if getting high all day and watching cable television is your thing, give Mount Sinai a whirl. As long as youre over 25 or 30. If you want luxury skip this place and go to Aventura, but be prepared for second rate psychiatrists. There are plenty of detox and rehab places for the more sane in Dade county and Broward to visit. I suggest you do so. But if you are suffering from serious mental illness, this is a GO TO hospital. I do recommend it for those type of cases. If you just need a break from life, book a flight to Hawaii or find one of tens of millions luxurious rehabs and detox centers with dual diagnoses to check into, first. This is NOT the place for the mildly disturbed.

Although people here always smile it doesnt mean this is a good or happy place. Its actually frustrating how long you have to wait for everything. The place is outdated, old school tube tv to entertain my 90 year old, vision impaired grandmother. The sheets arent far behind, with holes and fading stains that dont quite fade enough. It is discharge day and I receive the call that she is ready to go. I arrive to enter a new room which they moved her over in the middle of the night because my grandmother sleep talks and the new roommate who was up late talking to others with the light on complained, even though my grandmother had been there before her. When I walk into the room around 3:45 pm I see blood everywhere. They took out her IV and shes old and bleeds...I get it, fragile veins but why is my grandmothers hand still bloody (already dried by the time I get there) and theres blood on the floor, in the bathroom, on the sheet. Since she was being discharged today I was told they were waiting for her to leave to sanitize the whole room at once. So my grandmother should sit in a room dirty with her blood because she is leaving? Are your patients not worth the effort? Just because shes leaving does she not deserve a clean room to wait in? Moreover, she was thirsty and had barely any water, not even enough to fill an 8 ounce cup halfway. Once I asked for water it took another 15-20 minutes to receive it. When the discharge personnel finally came, theres only one and he is also the one to go handle emergencies with a crash cart apparently, one of the medications we spoke with the doctor the day before was not on there. That meant more waiting because the doctor was not in. By this point it was apparent that they were not ready for us to pick her up. I gave the nurse her pharmacy information and let her know we had to leave. I requested a wheelchair which took another long period of time. The lady who brought it was very nice and bright to my attention that no bag was given to my grandmother for her personal belongings. Once she got the bag and my grandmother in the chair I was ready to run out of this hospital. 5:26 pm we are finally in the car head home, just on time for heavy traffic. Never again will I seek out any help from this hospital I am disappointed in all aspects with this facility.

I would like to share this story with all of you. My and my husband experience at mt hospital, he suffer a fall during our vacation, He was going to be admitted at Florida Celebration hospital, he suffer a fall and fracture the head of the humerus, we travel back to admit my husband at Mt Sinai, my favorite hospital, at the time of the admission I requested a private room, none available at the time, since the hospital is working in multiple constructions on site there was no room availablevst the 6th floor for my husband care I was place in room 806 suite as a courtesy with the same cost of a private room of $115.00 approved by administration Vip " Charlene Welker" sice that day the persecution and harassment began for us to pay the difference of $250.00 daily when I had an approval aready. A nurse by the name of Nawreet Kaur Shergill clearly told me that I was paying a room of a $115.00 if didnt had the difference pay I was to leave the room all this saga was while my husband was getting ready to go to surgey, the head nurse Emily Salomori ( I dont know is this is the righ spelling ) told me the 8th floor VIP floor was not equipted to treat my husband, that comment was very scary since a hospital like Mt Sinai 4 star is not equipted to treat if you dont pay. Dr came his treatment since he had a reaction they are assuming to the medicine. Confimed that could be giving in that floor Again nurse Nawreet refused tratment told will disconnect the IV medication, and she clearly say i need to transfer to the 4th floor, I requested they contact my husband doctor was never i was throne out I had a nurse that came to my room ans say hurry hurry pick your stuff and go .... guess i am in a room with no shower, the drawers from the nights tables are literally broken and the succers for the electricity not working. I was yell, by a secretary Name Otilia Otero very rude. I love my Doctors. They are the best. I dont go to Mt Sinai for the hospital. I go for my doctors. This is sad, very sad Mt Sinai dont care for patients. The care for the money
