The doctor who saw my father treated him as if he was just another person going to hospice because they prescribed Ativan for agitation, Atropine to shut down his secretions, Fentanyl patch (100 times stronger than morphine), Morphine (liquid every two hours), Halperinol (Haldol-antipsychotic medication?)...the usual comfort kit for Hospice. It doesnt make sense when my father was taking 1000 mg of Tylenol every 4-6 hours and medications that made life a bit more bearable. There was no gentle nor logical progressive increase of medication which is unfortunate. A half hour after his "comfort kit" pack was administered he said, " I feel dizzy. I feel sick" , then his breathing changed, becoming very labored until he stopped eating altogether. I am not sure why they even call this a "comfort kit". His death was not peaceful. One of the last things he said to me was that the hospital bed that they sent for our home health care was not comfortable. In a matter of hours his breathing became noisy; he was not suctioned and the doctor that my father preferred was out of town. The noisy breathing went on for three days straight. My father basically was put into a drug induced coma that led to dehydration. Prior to the administering of the medications, we had told the physician that he was sensitive to narcotics and she didnt seem to care. Her response was cold: "Well, hes in pain and this the last conversation you will probably have with your father." I am sorry that he went to this particular hospice because he was not better off. We knew he was going to die--we had accepted that part of the deal with hospice, my father and ourselves. My father, as a physician, believed that hospice was to alleviate pain and to die a more comfortable death...this final wish was never fulfilled. After my father died, a grief counselor showed up at the funeral and I told her this exactly and said that I was going to file a complaint as alternatives to his end of life care were never presented to us. Instead, I was told by the grief counselor, "Im sorry you feel this way." I am not the only person who felt this way. They should have paid more attention to him when he was alive than after the fact. All we wanted from Hospice was a more peaceful death...also keeping in mind that no death is completely perfect nor serene but knowing that there must be some doctors out there that take pride in treating the patients final wishes and the familys wishes with the respect that is so greatly deserved. My father would have never have treated a patient this way. He loved his patients and took care of them no matter what their financial or emotional circumstances. He was a good doctor and like all other patients no matter what his stage in life, he deserved to have been treated in compliance with the Hypocratic oath.

Worst experience ever since got here from the rude nurses in Cath Lab (particularly Rochelle and Astrin) to nurses on 3rd floor and rooms dirty especially bathrooms not well kept. Nurse Cynthia has no care in world for the patients and I am getting no answers from doctors. I fell in Cath Lab after my catheterization procedure and could here nurses by desk laughing and commenting dont know how I did that after telling them I felt dizzy but they just let me go and wound up on floor. Bobbie from case management is so rude and unprofessional. Only one nice in place was a night nurse Kenya and PCA Diane who acted like cared about patients plus Neal who is a Patient Rep. Also, food service is horrible and always leaving stuff out of order. Was also left in a room on 3rd floor when 1st came to floor that air wasnt working. Nurses even came in all day and said wow this room is so hot can feel as soon as walk through door. But me sweating all day till finally decided at 1am in morning to move my room. Also, Dr. Zelnick is pretty good who did procedure passed me off to Dr. Zelfman cause I developed other issues after procedure due to muscle disease I have had for 6 years that may have caused my cpk levels to go sky high. Also, developed bleeding problem when urinating. A urologist came to see me also and felt he wasnt concerned with fixing problem before I left and said could come back and have scope done later date. But if in hospital already why not do now and fix problem and was not comfortable going home in condition I was. Saw a lot of comments on here doctors dont seem to be depth with patients here and so agree and just worried about kicking you out door. Still was never even told my results of knee X-rays after falling in cath lab and having constant knee pain nor would give me any pain medication that I am prescribed daily normally. Never did hear back from urology doctor either results of urinalysis they did. Still in hospital but about to leave today feeling very uniformed.

About two weeks ago, my fiancée got hit by a car and incurred some pretty bad injuries, including a broken scapula, left femur bone and knee. The hospital was supposed to have a rehabilitation center set up for him to go to, as he had been rendered incapable of walking and taking care of himself, but instead, after about 5 days there, they discharged him. I believe it was the day before his discharge, a doctor came in to inform him that he was going to be having more surgery on his knee, as well as his hand. We both assumed it was to be that day. Well, that surgery never happened... The night before he was supposed to be leaving, they cut off the phone to his room to the nurses station, and refused to give him anymore pain medication. (They went from giving him dilaudid every two hours when he first came in to ZERO medication) Im currently in another state, and he would call me crying hysterically because he was in so much pain and no one there would help him. Talk about having your heart break for someone and not being able to do a damn thing about it. So he was discharged, with only a prescription for ten 5mg percs, a walker, and a commode. Unfortunately when he got back home, the depression and pain got the best of him...He couldnt shower, could barely stand up long enough to make himself something to eat, had to set up the commode in his living room because he couldnt make it to the bathroom. So he started drinking heavily to numb the pain, and as Im currently typing this, hes back in BHMC because he had fallen the other night and his landlord had to call the ambulance. Im so sick over this and the way this hospital has treated him. No one there would give him straight answers. He mustve spoken to about 6 different people prior to his discharge to find out what was going on, and everyones answer was conflicting to the next. Im praying they are going to do something more for him this time than they did last time. This hospital sucks.

WORST HOSPITAL IVE EVER BEEN TO. All productive members of society, do yourself a favor and drive the extra 20 minutes (if you can) and drive to Broward North in Deerfield. However, if youre one of the local crack heads or pill junkies looking to get your script refilled - THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU! They will get you right in and out; even if you want to be obnoxious and talk loudly about the reason you are there with all of your other junkie friends. I was told by my PCP to go to the ER due to a fever and other symptoms Id had for a week. Long story short, we sat and waited for SEVEN (7) hours. Please note, this is without food or water - no vending machines in sight. They got us right in for test (blood work and CAT Scan). Then had us sit and wait for 5.5 hours to get the results. The most frustrating part was the Doctors dismissive and cocky attitude when he finally came into my room and asked my what I was there for. I said " youre kidding me, right?" He responded by saying "no, not really". He didnt know what test they had done, had not looked at my results and then after giving us a long diatribe about general care physicians " only prescribing antibiotics so they feel like they are doing something and left. Five minutes later, two individuals walked in to try to do a chest X-ray on me. The gentleman got confrontational with my husband when my he demanded to know why they needed an X-ray of my chest as I had no upper respiratory symptoms. In the end, all of my test were normal and we had waited 7mhours to be told its a virus and to take NyQuil and DayQuil. REALLY?! They could have told me that 5 hours ago - and I think the RN on the floor could have delivered it with a better bedside manner. I was actually sick and could not get service but again, they are very accommodating if your an unproductive member of society that needs their next fix.
