I took my boyfriend into the ER at Imperial Point two days ago because he was complaining of abdominal pain and several other symptoms. I have spent a fair amount of time in hospitals and was aware that we would be waiting for a while and that the visit would most likely be on the expensive side. What I was NOT aware of was the horrible customer service we would be receiving. The ONLY person who treated us decently and with any kind of respect was the lady at the front desk who checked us in. Firstly, I suppose because were both look rather young, the staff saw no need to take us seriously at all. After asking for a urine sample, drawing blood, and seeing the doctor for a total of about 5 minutes, they left us in the hospital room for almost three hours. The entire time his urine sample sat on the counter and the needle they put in his arm was left there with nothing attached to it. Eventually the needle became too uncomfortable and he asked me to see if I could find someone to remove it since we had no idea what they were doing or how long we would be there. The only person I could find was the register but my simple and polite request was met with an incredibly unwarranted attitude. She informed me that he was being discharged soon anyway but could not give me any reference of time. About thirty minutes went by and she came into the room to ask for his address, insurance, and very rudely if we had any money to pay towards our bill that night. When I asked how much the bill was she said "I dont know". In which case I cant understand for the life of me why she was asking if we could pay it. Shortly after that the nurse came to remove the needle in his arm by ripping the tape, tube and needle off all at once. He asked if we had any questions and then acted EXTREMELY annoyed when it turned out that we did have questions. They said it was an infection and when we asked what kind he said "I dont know". When we asked what caused it he said "I dont know". When my boyfriend asked what the side effects of taking the prescription would be, I kid you not, the nurse said "I dont know"! The same nurse suggested we fill the prescription at a CVS down the street saying that it had a 24hr pharmacy and would be able to fill the prescription easily. Not only were they NOT able to fill the prescription, but they also were not a 24hr pharmacy and were actually closing soon after we got there. THANK GOD that CVS had competent and friendly staff who were bright enough to call the next pharmacy ahead before sending us there. Needless to say we ended up leaving VERY unhappy at the cost of $357 plus separate doctor bills that we are still awaiting in the mail. I have tried to call the head of the ER to speak about this matter and have yet to be called back. I just dont want any other young couple, or anyone else there, being so rudely mistreated and taken advantage of.

For years our family only boasted positive feedback about healthcare in south FL. Having been in Broward County since 1950 we have seen many changes and one steadfast healthcare provider we could rely upon was Broward Health and IPMC since it was built 40 years ago. Having said that I must say our most recent experience was horrid. Healthcare experts and professionals truly need to take a step back and get back to basics. Whenever I am in the hospital with family and/or friends I make every effort to not let the staff know of my experience and knowledge. One reason is to observe and gain a real measure of their abilities and performance and another reason is more often than not once the staff learns you are in the profession many get an attitude that often negatively impacts the patient. Having recently spent a few days in the hospital with a family member I was appalled and even embarrassed to admit I am part of the healthcare profession. Heres a short list of issues: -Doctors, nurses and other staff entered the room and never introduced themselves. -Many staff members came and went never bothering to explain why they were there. -Few staff members wore clearly legible ID badges thus we never knew if the person was a member of housekeeping or a RN. -Many who entered the room to perform and exam could not speak our language, English, and never bothered to take the time to insure we could understand them. -Most hospitalists (house Doctors) came into the room and began an exam and probing without even providing for privacy and some even had the nerve to answer their cell phone while in the middle of doing an assessment! -One RN was assigned two ICU patients and was in charge of the ICU. -Nearly every person who came and went over the 4 days we were in the facility complained about working conditions, Obamacare fallout and how they were currently seeking a new career. The so-called experts truly need to get out of their offices and get their heads into the real world. Obsession with coding to maximize the dollar figure that will be reimbursed needs to stop. Concern about what is happening on the front lines needs to be the top priority. The experts must find a way to avoid Obamacare and finally, there must be a reduction in documentation demands so the RNs can spend more time at the bedside and truly return to nursing. BY FAR THE WORST HOSPITAL I HAVE EVER BEEN TO!!!! ALL of the staff was extremely rude and unprofessional. My husband was taken into the ER with a popped out shoulder from swimming in the ocean. When I got there, I felt like I was being a bother to everyone I asked a question to and all I wanted to know was where to go to find him. (Im not a frequent hospital goer, so MY BAD. First time ever in the ER) Anyhow, when I finally did get to him he told me how they were taking their good old time and even just left him in the exam room alone waiting for the doctor, while he was screaming in pain. There were plenty of nurses there, even one reading a magazine. I had to be the one to sit there and help him get comfortable in the bed by holding his arm in a position that didnt pinch the nerve as bad. When I went to ask one of the nurses how much longer until the doctor would be in to help him, she couldnt give me an answer and rudely said "Well, hes the only doctor here." There wasnt anyone else in the ER at this time...it was empty. As I walked away, my husband saw her roll her eyes at me and make a face. SERIOUSLY?!?!?! How dare we make you do your job! We are a young couple, and I read another review on here about a young couple being treated horribly, so maybe its a trend. One of the nurses there... was probably the most arrogant prick I have met in my entire life and was so defensive for NO REASON. He was constantly making unprofessional remarks , and at the end when the doctor asked us if we were satisfied with the service (WHO ASKS THAT IN AN ER?!?! This isnt a damn Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant !!!) We said, yes, its fine (I wasnt in the mood to complain) then the nurse goes "yeah, but the nurses sucked" in a very sarcastic tone. The fact that he even said that shows that he knew he was treating both of us badly. Either they all hate their jobs there and are severely underpaid, or this is what we are going to deal with living in Florida. I havent been to any other hospitals down here, but I do not recommend going here if you want prompt treatment and hospitable service. I cant imagine how long he would have sat their in pain if the ER was actually full of people. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place!!!!!!
