When I was in southwood in 8th grade, I was a total mess. And honestly, aside from getting out on meds, the experience I had there was so unpleasant that I legitimately have PTSD from this hospital. The beds are incredibly thin, the staff didnt even seem to care about their job at all, and the place overall felt like a prison rather than a mental hospital. I legitimately had to brown nose my way out of getting out of there because it was so horrible. The nurse was one of the nicest people there, while the doctor I had who happened to be Hindustani was one of the least caring staff there. To this day I cannot stand the phrase "Im sorry to hear that" when I told him I was homesick. DO NOT CHOOSE THIS FACILITY!! PLEASE LOOK AT WESTERN PYSCH INSTEAD!!!

My 15 year old son was disrespectful, heading down the wrong path, and an absolute mess. He was at a point where he was lashing out towards family and hurting himself. During his stay Nurse Dom who looks mean at first glance but he is very good with the children had a conversation with him and Im not sure what he said but my son says it changed the way he thinks and his life. He is doing well and actually plans to go to nursing school and help children himself. My husband and I bought this nurse a gift card but he gave it back to our son and told him that knowing him was rewarding enough. My son will not talk about the conversation but just say "Mr. Dom is a boss"!

My 5 year old son just got discharged Thursday after a 12 day stay at South wood. He had seome pretty severe mental health problems. The staff was great at keeping me updated with pretty much everything.. Even when he skinned his little knee. The doctor had called me concerning my sons medications as well. With any progress he made seems the staff was just as happy as I was. I couldnt visit because we live 5 hours away But the staff calling and keeping me updated made it much easier. My son has been doing amazing these last 5 days home.. Thanks to the staff for listening to my concerns and seeing them also for themselves.

I was here about a year or so ago, and i was attacked by a fellow patient, whom went as i presume unpunished considering she wasnt placed on elopement. Another girl stole someone else from another units Jordans, which Im guessing werent returned nor compensated for, considering the girl was discharged the day after. The so called gym they offer, smells like pure piss. The food was absolutely disgusting. And on top of that, most of the staff are some of the most unprofessional people Ive met in my life. You want your kid to get help? I ADVISE YOU TO LOOK INTO A DIFFERENT FACILITY.

This place is awful do not follow policy gave my 8 yr old daughter meds with out consent locked from area to area no therapy no nothing she was sexually assaulted and harrased by older boys and attacked staff do not care or help nor does nurses its like bad kids jail these kids are in there for help not to make it worse my child had bad severe reactions to ADHD meds and she needed help now hoed to mercy behavior outpatient so much help there...these pictures are not real either only two of outside wooden Ramo to entrance....

This place is filthy. I had ants in my bed that were biting me as I slept. Southwood is more like a prison than a helping center. Instead of helping their patients, they put them on medication and say well get better. The food was not too bad but the schedule was weird. Breakfast at 9 am then lunch about an hour and a half later just to have dinner at 4 and go to bed hungry at 9:30 pm. Otherwise, most of the care takers were friendly and tried their best to make you feel comfortable in this environment.

My son was admitted for suicidal thoughts and hallucinations. They kept him a week and sent him home within 24 hours we were back at the er waiting for a bed for him to go back. Less than 2 weeks later after pleading amd begging for them to keep him because we were afraid and him telling him he wasnt ready to come home they sent him home anyway. Here we are less than 24 hours since he has been home and we are back at the er waiting for a bed. Noone returns calls. Totally fed up with this place

The food was disgusting, the staff were rude, and they didnt let you use the restroom unattended. There was a key needed for every room and there were cameras everywhere. I dont believe any ant incident because the windows were sealed shut, and there was no type of ventilation at all. And I dont understand why you couldnt have strings yet there were strings in the cafeteria and how are we allowed forks but not spoons?! Dumb AF! That all.

The staff here are just amazing although, if you are looking for extended treatment no mental hospital will be able to provide that for you. They are limited to what they can do, but they make the best of they can. I learned a lot during my stay here which helped me in my longer journey at an RTF.

They released me the other day told me I was well from the nervous hospital because I killed Jesse dixson.I cut his head plumb off with a Kaiser blade some people call it a Sling Blade but I call,it a Kaiser blade.

Dirty bathrooms and rooms. Food sucks and they mix slow kids with normal kids which ends up with slow kids getting beat up. Mr. Dom and Mr. Aaron are the truth just dont piss them off!
