I spoke with Karen on the phone today. I called the number because when I went to Park West, they give me 2 prescriptions that the doctor didnt sign. One of the prescriptions is for anxiety. I had a car accident last week and am having a recurrence of panic attacks due to riding and driving in cars. Its not pleasant. Without the medication, getting into a car is terrifying. Driving one is impossible. Just attempting to get this prescription was simply awful. I went to 3 different urgent care clinics and was told that since there was not an MD on staff they couldnt prescribe my anxiety medication. It was recommended that I go to Park West, because they were the closest and I was in the midst of a panic attack. By the time we got to the ER at Park West, I was exhausted from the panic attacks and in a great deal of back pain. The ER at Park West wasnt excited about giving me anything for my anxiety, but they did when I begged them so that I could get to work on Monday. Like every one in Jacksonville, I have to drive to get to work. When I took the prescription to the pharmacy, the pharmacist discovered that the doctor from the ER , David Davis, didnt sign the prescriptions. Hoping to avoid another long drive, I called the phone number on the precription and reached Karen for the first out of 3 times. The first time Karen told me that the doctor on my prescription wasnt at her hospital (Orange Park Medical Center). I went into a panic attack. She was very short with me and hung up the phone when my panic attack didnt subside in enough time to suit her. The second time I reached her, she hung up on me accidentally. The third time, frustrated and very very upset, I asked her why she was being so mean to me. She said that I had been "Hysterical" so she hung up. Apparently Karen doesnt need to deal with people who have panic attacks very often, and perhaps needs some training in how to handle people like me on the phone. Im surprised that a medical professional even uses a term like "hysterical". When I tried to ask her for help the third time, Karen became very impatient with me, again. She told me that I need to go to Park West to get the prescriptions signed. I was worried that I would not only have to drive there again, but to also demonstrate the need a second time. I was already exhausted from trying to get medicine I need to perform basic tasks. I asked her if she could call them and let them know that theyd made an error (Park West and OPMC are the same company, arent they?) and she said "Youre wasting time on the phone with me when you could be going there already." Im embarassed that I answered rudness with rudeness and said "Thanks for nothing". But if OPMC actually cares about its clients, I hope it reads this. Karen, thank you for several things. Thank you for teaching me that a nurses patience is very very limited. Thank you for teaching me that my anxiety and panic are so difficult to be around that they deserve to be hung up on. Thank you for doing literally less than the least you could do to help me today. Thank you for making sure that I never ever will go to an establishment that would provide you with employment.

In the last several years, because of Obama Care and the amount of ppl on govt. assistance, not paying for OC and not paying penalties on their taxes yearly because they dont have income and dont file...ERs have become 24 hr "clinics" for ppl receiving medicaid and/or no insurance. As soon as you make it known, you have insurance and your doctor instructed you to go to the ER, they become almost annoyed and you are blown off. Granted, this ER is more like a fast track ER, the triage and techs checking you in are stoic robots with little patience. The ER is clean, they provide face masks if you are virus sick. Its troublesome to see ER patients wheeling around in hospital wheel chairs sitting outside in the parking lot, smoking and personally, it should be a non smoking property. My doc sent me to the ER, Im waiting for CTs and hemo appts to confirm a blood disorder that can cause clots, strokes, etc. He wanted me to be evaluated due to an incident earlier that day involving one of my legs. The check in process and sitting in triage was like a creepy scene from The Walking Dead, I was waiting for the staff to turn on me. A very sweet ultrasound tech retrieved me from the wait room and did the tests on my leg to check for a blood clot. She returned me to the wait room and about 30 minutes later, another person pulled me from the wait room and put me in another wait room/consultation room with 4 chairs and told me to wait for the doctor. A young doctor came in, introduced himself and interrogated me...literally, slightly contentious for someone who probably just finished out his residency. I gave him my story and told him what my doctor thinks I have. He was clueless, and decided that is was NOT cryoglobulinemia, BUT Hypogammaglobulinemia. I corrected him, he corrected me, I could see he was getting annoyed, so he looked at me point blank..."We are full, we have no beds, no place to put you, the ultrasound came back - no clots, you need to see a specialists, there is nothing we can do for you here. Your doc stating you can get a blood clot from this is really just a "statistic"...Its not like it would "really" happen." He then instructed me to go home and take a baby aspirin, which I then explained to him that I have cyclic thrombocytopenia. HAD he bothered to ask, he would have known, but he was more interested in shutting me down and getting me out the door. No blood work, NO D-dimer, nothing. "You have insurance, a doctor, you are a specialty case, you got the ultrasound, its neg., leave and well send you the bill with your copay." Have a nice day. My husband is a paramedic and was beyond livid, taking the day off today to assure Id be okay since we have young kids. Honestly, I would not recommend this ER or ANY ER for that matter...if you have a primary and are insured. We have become very disenchanted with ERs, I stand a better chance under the care of my spouse. Its become insanely jaded and purposely structured to deal primarily with the indigent, and in a calculated callous manner.

I recently experienced first hand the trauma that is describe on YELP. I would expect an ER to have a chief of staff with an MD on campus at all times. Do not proceed to a hospital that does not have a doctor as chief of staff. If you Google for one it will not be found because there isnt one. Going there you are directed by staff with little to no experience of the best practices in hospital care. They do not have written policy in place and cannot provide you with it if asked. If you happen to need service on a weekend forget about it. They cannot provide you will information until Monday. I would have expected discharge papers to be handed to my family immediately upon completion of they stay, but no feel free to walk out. Asking for staff to assist us in getting paper work I approached all front desks to get blank stares with no one knowing who was in charge of the campus. How can you not know you bosses name??? Then when you do get someone they tell you "you understand we are here with patients that need more care than you right now". This woman must have been an LVN because RNs do not act like this. I only give one star for this rating because only one person seemed like they have the proper training in handling patient care(not an MD though). The organizations that have given awards to this facility should be seriously questioned too. Remember short ER wait time means they do not spend enough time with patients. Florida Department of Health needs to look into this facility before others are mistreated!!! P.S. they posted to contact them to discuss the incident. if they had answered my phone call earlier then I wouldnt have had to make this post. NO ONE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE CALLED ME BACK. now I have to continue to deal with this horrible hospital because the cause of death is incorrect. more evidence that this place is less then qualified to serve the Orange Park community!
