By accident I pulled out my Picc line that I get my antibiotics through 24/7 so I called the ER and asked the hospital if I could come in to have a new one inserted. When I arrived they took so long to get me logged in the ER and a Doctor to see me that there was only one person left in radiology that could do the Picc line and they told me that they could not leave their area. The only other option they gave me was to put in a IV and have me use that. I explained that for me to come back I would have to give my Medical Transport 3 business days notice. Since it is now going to be Wednesday before I can set up Transport that I would not be able to return the next Monday. Now they and I know that a IV should not be left in longer that 3 days but they did not see to care are were very dismissive to my situation. On top of that the antibiotics are for a bone infection I have and with me also being HIV Positive I am in a fight for my life. Still when I called today I could not get in touch with doctor at the hospital and kept getting tossed around with no answer on what I should do to get treated. Oh top of that most the medical staff that said they would call me back never did so I kept having to go around and around with my story of what was going on each time I called. From now on I am going to request to be sent to Florida Hospital. I mean its I also have to pay Co-payments on an extra treatment for the IV when they told me to come in and they would be happy to replace the Picc Line. Highlands Regional Medical Center has been a mess all the way around and going to cost me extra money due to this. Addition to review left 12/23/14 Since they did not insert a picc line as they told me they would and they reason they told me to come on to the hospital and then when I arrive and the time it took though I told them time was a matter so this could get done today as they said they would do it. They took over an hour to just get me seen by the ER doctor on a slow night and then another 45 minutes before they inform them that I am ready to have the picc line inserted. That is when I was told that now there was only one person on staff in that dept. so they could not let her leave to come to the ER to do the picc line. She said they waited until 6:45pm when they normally leave at 4pm. I tried to explain what was going on and that I had arrived 2 hours earlier and she said her director said she could not leave to go to the ER to insert the picc line that they had me come in for. So I called today to see about being admitted as an out patent told them I would have to give my Medical Transport agency 3 business days notice for transport. So, because they did not schedule a date for me today so I could call and schedule for Medical transport and still provide them the 3 business days notice. I was told that I would have to call back on the 29tyh when he returns. So lets go over the ramifications of this that the doctor knows good and well about since I have told him before about my situation. "If" I can get hold of the doctor on the 29tyh and I call the Medical Transport no later than the 30th of December. That will mean I will have had this IV in my arm a total of 11 days at the shortest before they can put in the picc line. If you did not know, but a IV is not intended to be left in the body no more than 3 days due to infection rates leaving it in longer. They know I am fighting a Bone infection and they know my blood work for my HIV is all a mess, they still choose to put my life at risk as to not inconvenience any one working at the hospital. I find that totally unacceptable and I am going to link this to my social media so everyone I know sees what is taking place here and the way the doctors and staff are disregarding a major risk to my life!

If I could give this hospital 0 stars, I would. Being from out of town and having an emergency where part of somebodys finger was lost, I called 911 and headed to the nearest hospital with the injured person. Unfortunately, it was this hospital. The level of care received was unacceptable. From the x-ray tech trying to xray the wrong person, to the nurse not giving an ounce of help when she demanded the patient that just lost part of a finger drop their pants for an injection. The doctor acted like he didnt want to help us and just wanted to finish his shift. We received very little information about how to care for the wound. I also was admitted for a minor injury that I wish I had kept my mouth shut about in addition to the person with the injured finger. In the end, my injury was not cleaned nor even touched by a doctor. The doctor and nurse looked at my injury from across the room. I received a tetanus shot and was told to both wash it myself in the sink, and also told to go home and wash it as nobody bothered to clean it. I was then stuck with a $814 ER bill for a tetanus shot and left with a dirty wound. We left with the finger wound wrapped in gauze and were told to see a hand surgeon on Monday (we were at the hospital on a friday night). The person that lost the finger was not given any pain medication. We saw the Dr. walk into the room with what could have been pain pills, but they were never given to the patient. We left with 2 scripts for antibiotic and one for Tylenol 3 for the pain which could not be filled till the morning. We were not told to change the bandage till monday but there was so much blood the next morning we had the bandage changed at a local walk-in clinic where we were told that the reason the Tylenol 3 wasnt working was because it is not nearly strong enough for such an injury and that the bandage needs to be changed every day till the wound is repaired. To recap, we had terrible care while in the hospital, were not written prescriptions that were applicable to the injury, and were not given proper aftercare instructions. I cannot believe the amount of money being demanded for such a poor level of service. DO NOT GO HERE.

Dr. Lizardi is a very attentive doctor that helped me with a soft tissue infection that I had. He calmed me down by explaining in detail what was wrong with me and what the procedure would be to take care of the problem. The nurses in the ER checked on me probably every ten minutes to make sure that I was ok and if I need anything. After I filled out all of the paperwork required, five minutes later I was in triage having my vitals taken and then told to sit in the waiting room. I sat in the waiting room for about 20 minutes and then I was escorted to my room. After about a couple of hours (because of getting results from the tests that I did and of course getting the right diagnosis of my problem) I was discharged. I think the main problem that people have with ERs is that they think that their problems are the worst and need to be seen right away. What people dont understand is that the ER is not a hotel that caters to people right away. The dedicated Nurses and Doctors that are in the emergency room work 8 to 12 hour shifts that sometimes lead to 14 to 16 hours because of paperwork and treating patients. When people in the ER that have to understand that they are not the only ones in the ER and that they have to wait because there are other people in the ER looking for treatment as well. Waiting 20, 30 even 60 minutes is due to the fact that other people are in the ER besides you. If you are patient and kind and respect the people in the ER you will see that this ER is really the best in Highlands County and I would never go any place else. Thank you to the dedicated nurses and doctors of the Highlands Regional Medical Center Emergency Room and please keep up the good work.
