When I arrived for my first appointment, I realized I had made an appointment at the wrong vet. My intention had been North Florida Animal Hosp. They were very welcoming, though, and I decided to go for one appointment just to try them out. Not very impressed with the older building and outdated flooring, I wondered if this was the right place for my precious black lab, Maya. It took me only two appointments to change my mind! My dog is treated as if she had been going to this vet from birth! When I took Maya to get her shots today, the vet techs who entered the room were extraordinarily congenial and friendly. They LOVED their job; you could feel it radiate from them! I was happily surprised when the vet tech promptly sat on the floor to receive Mayas rampant slobbery kisses. By allowing my dog to become acquainted with them in a calm, open, and friendly way, the appointment went amazingly well. I felt today that they cared for her and that gave me reassurance that they would care for her in more serious situations as well. All of this is well and good, but lets talk economy. Ive been to three vets with Maya. The prices at this vet are so incredibly reasonable and the staff is nothing if not straight-forward and honest about what your pet needs. On our first appointment, the vet actually suggested a cheaper version of the pricey flea/tick/worm medicine other vets had pushed on us! She said that since Maya currently had no fleas or ticks, there was no reason to put her on strong flea/tick prevention. This was a moment where the vet could have easily drawn us in and made twice the profit, but she didnt. Instead, she said that buying the cheaper medicine and then getting flea/tick medicine at the store (if ever necessary) would save us a lot of money. This is Mayas third clinic, and I am definitely staying. Mayas first vet, Oakwood Animal Hospital, is a poor choice of vets. Not only did they lose track of Mayas vaccination schedule, but they would TELL me what tests/medications/extra services I was going to get for Maya instead of suggesting products and waiting for MY decision about MY dog. Each visit was a torrent of demanding and conniving ways to make me spend much more money than I needed to. Her second vet, North Florida Animal Hospital, was very nice, friendly, and professional as well, but they push you to buy way more than your pet needs and they charge more for the same service SMAH offers (but at least they have the decency to phrase it as a suggestion). They seem a bit more aloof as well, but maybe that is the consequence of dealing with such a large amount of animals. You forget to really get to know your customers and pets. Go to SMAH with your pets. Remember, its not about the building... Its the caregivers inside. :)

I wish I could give this review no stars! Dr. Kruger is a sociopath. Im not sure why she became a vet, but she definitely doesnt care about animals. My relative has an adorable 4yo dog with a great disposition, however, she is no longer able to care for her. She kept him boarded at this animal hospital until she could find a new home. After a few weeks, Dr. Kruger called her and tried to convince her to put her down because it was "inconvenient" for her to continue boarding him since he does not get along well with other dogs. SERIOUSlY?!?!? She actually tried to kill this young and healthy dog that is very affectionate with people!! What kind of vet does that??? If she didnt want to board her she should have recommended another place--what kind of sick person uses death as a solution for that??

I have been going to see Dr. MacMillan since 2004 with my first baby. I now take all my animals there. The staff is very friendly and they love their jobs but most importantly they love your pets too! Just recently my chocolate lab became very ill and Dr. MacMillan and the rest of the staff worked diligently until a diagnosis was made. They truly understand the meaning of patient care because they kept me totally informed and let me see my boy anytime I wanted to while he was there. It may be a busy office but I can guarantee you will get the best possible service and care you could imagine!

Had a bad experience with S.M.A.H. My dog passed away while with them, which I knew was a possibility. I was still charged for a box of medicine that I no longer had a use for. They told me that since they had given him one pill out of the box of 30 I had to pay for the entire box. However, I was given a different quote before where they also charged by the pill individually. Fed up I left, but when I opened the box of pills (since I paid for them) there were two pills missing out of the 30. I felt like had not been completely honest with and still charged for things I shouldnt have.

When I first got my cat, I noticed she came with a unique bladder problem that no one could figure out. I talked to vet after vet, & got no answers. I phoned South Monroe and sighing two minutes Dr. MacMillan not only had a possible answer, but it turned out to be the right one! Every seemingly difficult pet issue I have had in the past EIGHT years I have trusted to SMAH, & they have always come through for me. Sometimes they are busy, but waiting for quality care like theirs is worth its weight in gold.

Down to Earth staff and doctor. She explains very well all the options and costs. Suggests realistic methods of treatment. Kind to animals! My dogs and cat did well during their checkups. Staff was great in helping me select medications for cost and effectiveness. Will be back for follow up care for sure! This is not a vet who wants an MRI because your pet has the sniffles - she has common sense and knowledge!

Our dog Thaddeus was brought in to see the vet on March 29, 2016. Sadly to say he passed away the next day. Dr. K. and her staff were so gracious and kind to my husband and we are so grateful to have such a warm and generous extended family. The condolence card was sweet too! Thank you so very much for caring.

Absolutely pleasant experience today. I was greeted by a very personable receptionist today Sarah I believe. You can tell everyone on there staff has a passion for animals and there well being. I highly recommend this animal hospital.
