What began as symptoms of a cold in mid-November of 2014 worsened into an acute sinus infection with severe nasal congestion. Numerous doctor visits, several different types of antibiotic prescriptions and decongestants, a visit to the emergency room, an ambulatory sinus surgery, and a post treatment of allergy shots should have treated my condition giving me signs of great improvement but it didn’t, the severe nasal congestion kept me awake for several hours into the night. I felt my immune system was not responding to the medications and became very concerned. When I started visiting an E.N.T specialist in September of 2015, antibiotics were prescribed for the infection but only provided temporary relief. Surgery was the next step. Two CT scans were performed prior to the surgery to determine the severity of the sinus infection. The surgery and the 3 follow up nasal debridement sessions did remove the infection once and for all however the severe nasal congestion was still a problem. Within a month of the surgery, the E.N.T specialist recommended starting an allergy shot treatment to better my condition, 2 vials were prepared for me based on the allergy test results. For the next 3 months I visited the E.N.T specialist on a weekly basis to get my 2 allergy shots and be observed for 30 minutes for any anaphylactic reaction. During those 30 minutes I did not feel any side effects but afterwards the nasal congestion would return and had to use Allegra D 24hr to alleviate the symptoms. Feeling worse every time I would get the shots made me decide to cancel the treatment. It was then my daughter did some research online and found The Integrative Medicine Center, Inc. We were both impressed by Dr. Yan Gong’s background and expertise in Traditional Chinese Medicine and the use of acupuncture to treat allergies and sinusitis among other conditions. Dr. Gong is caring, very attentive, courteous, thorough and accurate in her evaluations. She had started me off with 10 sessions weekly at first then biweekly. After the second acupuncture session I already felt a difference. I was starting to breathe better, I felt more relaxed. Before I reached the 6th session my health had greatly improved. My immune system became stronger; my allergy symptoms became more under control and more manageable. What a difference this alternative treatment has made in my life from everything I have gone through from November 2014 ‘til now! Even the plantar fasciitis I was having has healed tremendously, I gained back my health, I feel better than before and I am very grateful to Dr. Gong for everything she has done for me, her staff is always so welcoming and attentive and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Ou and Gong have been very patient and thorough in their diagnostic evaluations and take the required time to gain a full understanding of the issues one hopes to treat.
