I had been to the office on US 41 and Mars Hill and was impressed with DR Toby Carmichael. But let me tell you what happened when Carmichael was not there! When my dog had the stomach torsion bloat, upon arrival to thier 4th office my dog refsed to even go in! (Main St Acworth) that was the 2nd time he reacted that way at that office. Ironically we had been to their 3 offices same issue & day, he had no problem w/them. referring me to each of there next offices, they didnt care about my dogs life enough to let me know they had no one capable of operating that morning. THey wanted me wait around till a lrge animal surgeon came in, which i did at 1 location to find out the surgeon was ONLY s a small animal, sending me from office to office, when they knew no one could help me with my dog. I finally found out all the places I had been were owned by the same operational company!. I went to Dacula animal hospital in LAWRENCEVILLE, recommended by a breeder and got the operation within 15 minutes of walking in the door! the cost was $850. Dr Montgomery operated on my dog and said i had a 10% chance of him making it due to he was in the BLOAT for 14 Hours by now, a far cry from the $5000 to $5500 quoted by the Lake city group. I had gone to the Marietta Emergency location on US41 the night before 1030pm and was treated like I was buying a used car a they wanted to slam in in a financing booth from they quoted between $5000 to $5500. When i inquired to ask the vet looking at my dog what he thought was wrong, he misdiagnosed and said it was a spleen issue! theyd have charged me and killed my dog, he had NEVER DONE the surgery! then when i asked for my dog back they refused to give him to me, i went in the operating room and took the IVs out myself and carried my dog out leaving behind my american express card and the rookie surgeon who misdiagnosed my dog! my dog made it with perfect recovery, while at Dacula AH he was visited by all the UGA vet students, No one had ever seen a dog live thru this many hours of the bloat torsion and the doc said he would not have even believed it if i didnt have the paper work to prove where i had already been.

I took my 15yr male and 14 yr female, father and daughter, Shiba Inus for treatment. The female had been there previously and back to get groomed for dry skin problems. I brought her father in because he was behind on his vaccinations. I told the receptionist (nice lady) at the front he was aggressive. She marked his intake papers so that ALL handlers involved would know hes aggressive. I leave the office and 20 minutes later I get a call he bit a tech on the leg and broke skin. Heres the kicker, Im told since he wasnt vaccinated he had to go on 10 day quarantine and they had to call the Animal Control?! What? Ok... I guess ?!! To make a long story short, to my surprise, this 10 day rabies quarantine had to be spent at a Animal Hospital/office (avg. cost $400) or the dog pound ($250). Id have preferred to leave him at this vet since they are around the corner. You wouldve thought that since 1.) my dog was brought to THEM in the first place to get his vaccination 2.) bit one of the folks in care of him and RESPONSIBLE for administering the vaccination, and 3.) was told he was aggressive, that Acworth Animal Hospital wouldve offered to waive the 10 day fee or at LEAST discount the cost. THEY OFFERED ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! So my 15yr old senior slightly blind arthritic dog had to spend 10 days at the dog pound for $250 (turned out to be a pretty nice clean place). I also had to pay a $90 dog bite ticket; on top of the vaccinations costs after he got out the pokey! Although a little more, Butler Creek Animal Hospital has been a blessing. Lessons learned: For Me -- 1.) dont get behind on your vaccinations 2.) dont leave your dog if not reqd 3.) For Acworth Animal Hospital -- give the dog the shots as soon as they step in the doors with the owner present 4.) Most Importantly...how you HANDLE MISTAKES are as important as not making the mistakes! 1 star because his 14yr old daughter came out fresh and clean!

Acworth Animal Hospital (Main St, Acworth) My 1st time to this place was today with my 10wk old maltese puppy for her 2nd set of shots. The front office staff is professional. (No complaint with them) however when it was Pandoras (my dog) turn I was led into a room with a table and told to wait. I assumed I would meet the Vet and we would discuss the exam and any questions I had. A tech then came into the room, picked up Pandora and headed out the door,I asked "Where are you taking her" the tech replied "to deworm and give her, her shots" I replied dont I get to keep her with me while she is having this done"? The tech replied "we like to take the winers in the back". First of all this was Pandoras first time to visit this vet they have no idea of her temperment, this is what they do if I want to be with her that is my right and I want to see the Vet. The tech took my dog and I called the breeder from whom I purchased Pandora who told me this was NOT standard proceedure! They brought Pandora back (a tech) after 5 min and gave me my paperwork. I asked where was the Vet and the tech told me they were back in surgery! I was never notified I would not see the Vet nor given the information only after I pressed for it was I told the Vet was in surgery, No thorough exam was given to Pandora. I can only assume that the Vet never even laid eyes on my dog!! They were very will to take my money, and didnt seem to care that I wasnt pleased with the service. My Advice----STAY AWAY!!! who knows who gave my Pandora her shots! The only reason this place even gets 1 star is because I said in the beginning the front office staff was friendly and professional.

Im actually very surprised to see how many people have said negative comments about this place and their staff. Yes, the inside is not superb, but lets be honest - its a hospital for animals, not people, and I dont come there for the looks - its clean and thats all that matters. The staff is absolutely wonderful! They all make you and your pet feel VERY welcome and at ease and they all had a smile on their face. It was nice to be able to call on a busy Saturday after my kitten had an incident and for them to be able to squeeze me in. I called up, told them the issue, and they said to come on by, but Id have to wait a little bit. I had no problem with that because I knew I would have to wait on a busy day, especially with them squeezing me in. Maybe 10 minutes later, they apologized for not having a room for me yet, but took my kitten back to get everything started so when a room opened up, Id be set and ready for results. So really, my wait wasnt bad at all! I was in and out within 30-45 minutes. They were very thorough with me the entire time, keeping me updated on what was going on in the back and what my prices would be for Xrays and the regular exam fee, so nothing was a surprise when I got the (very affordable!) bill. The way they handled my kitten with such love and care was nice to see as well. Ive been driving back to Cumming from Acworth for so long to take my pets to Dr. Orrs because thats who Ive had for years, but I can honestly say I dont feel the need to anymore. I feel like my pets will be in great hands with them and I look forward to bringing my pets there in the future for their yearly check ups. Thanks guys!!
