I recently took my dog, who had an array of puppy conditions, to this animal hospital as my regular vet was closed. I have listed the pros and cons of this place in my hopefully humble view: Pros- *Dr. Canavan is extremely skilled in the realm of proper diagnosis (my regular vet is pretty good but not nearly as sharp or naturally adept in this area). Your animal will be thoroughly reviewed by someone who knows her symptoms/diseases well. People seem to like the other vet, Dr. Price, a lot too. *They seem to really care about animals and treat them like they matter. *Both doctors and staff also seem to treat owners with good manners and thoughtfulness. *Nice, clean office in a good location thats easy to find even from my out of area neighborhood. Cons: *This place is expensive! They try to sell you anything and everything they can from tests and medicines to food even. I dont like that:-)! They should do better. People dont anticipate most vet bills, so I dont feel they should be so quick to tack on every little bit of charge they can in a given situation (the charges should probably be bit lower too). *They also do not approve of raw diet and, instead, strongly recommend what I think is not only less balanced and natural but truly inferior food for animals or humans for that matter. I obviously dont like that either:-). Verdict: I will go to this vet when I feel my dog needs thorough care and a proper diagnosis for a serious condition or what I think may be a serious condition. I will go to my regular vet for rabies shots and everyday illness or injury, as she is much less costly and also open to raw diets and holistic care. The bill usually about 1/3 to 1/4 of what I paid at Ormewood Animal Hospital.

The vet, Nicole Canavan who saw my dog was nice and kind. However, I was really really discouraged and stunned at the medical advice I was given. Which in short was to medicate until you get desired results without thinking of alternatives. This was a huge red flag to me because its basic to offer options and show pros and cons to each. During my visit I mentioned that my dog doesnt do well on any certain kibble and that after a month or so on one I have to switch to another because she gets diarrhea. I have isolated her diet for months at a time to make sure the diarrhea is actually from the kibble. She mentioned that this is a problem and the irritation of the digestive tract could lead to cancer. That makes sense and I am so glad she pointed that out. Although, she then prescribed I do various tests, put her on royal canin, add antibiotics, and most likely long term steroids instead of trying fresh food as an alternative to see if the irritation subsides. I mentioned I have a greyhound ( who grew up on raw) and I fed raw to her safety with healthy results for over a year before adding kibble. She didnt like this for fear of salmonella being transferred to humans. I understand her fears of the raw diet and I respect them. Even if she suggested a cooked fresh food alternative I would have had more peace of mind. But instead the only suggestion I was given was to medicate until the dog can eat processed kibble without irritation. Im not against modern medicine or kibble, but this was a red flag and seemed so automated. Fresh food should be our first step. Just like with humans, if youre eating high end processed boxed food, perhaps you should switch to fresh food and then see where you stand.

Prior to yesterday I would have rated these guys a 5 however my dog yesterday had a knee injury...Here knee caps are loose and can come out of place (Ormewood Animal Hospital diagnosed this problem several months ago). So as I sat in my car less than 2 block from Ormewood Animal Hospital telling them Im about to pull up and my dog was in great pain....they stated that it was 5:30 and about to close and I needed to drive 15 miles across town in rush hour traffic to a 24 hour vet. All my dog needed was her knee cap adjusted which took the ER less than 30 seconds to do.... This is VET is a small business and needs to accommodate the locals. Im a General Contractor in Grant Park and if you call me at Midnight with a broken water pipe Im going to at least come over and shut your water off. NOT TELL YOU TO LOOK A PLUMBER UP IN THE YELLOW PAGES AND WAIT A HOUR WHILE YOUR HOUSE FLOODS. Sorry this was a deal breaker for me and I wont be back!

I rarely write reviews, but weve taken our puppy Lulu here since she was 6 weeks and the staff are wonderful. They treat her like shes one of their own. We just had her spayed on Friday and shes home and happy wearing incredibly cute pyjamas. Weve also taken our very shy cat here and he didnt seem to mind it one but. Id recommend it to anyone.

Dr. Annie is wonderful. Every time we go in there. Nero (my furry nephew) is getting use to it because everyone is so nice. They offer you something to drink when you wait and the visit is quick. The best vet and animal hospital Ive been in. They are my favorite.
