Interesting to read the review about the dog boarding not getting the item that was supposed to be housed with them. I WOULD take that as an indicator of how your pet is treated during boarding. I worked as a vet tech many years ago for a vet that all the clients LOVED because of how he would fuss over their pets. As soon as they were dropped off for boarding, however, all their dog beds, etc were tossed aside and the dogs were treated as "things". It didnt take me long to realize I didnt want to work there. As far as Kay Animal Hospital is concerned - the treatment you receive at most places will vary with which staff you interact with or which veterinarian you see. We have received good treatment there in the past. Dr. Michael Kay has an excellent "bedside manner" and appears sincere in his concern for our dogs. BUT, recently weve had real issues that Im afraid will have us looking for a new veterinarian and clinic. At least SIX times recently they were supposed to call me back (when my dog got out of surgery, regarding labwork, medication refills, etc). The last time I even mentioned that it had been happening over and over. They took my number again and INSISTED they WOULD return the call the next day. Nope. No call.....Our dogs labwork that we paid for was never even sent off (naturally we never received a call about the results either! - Id assumed that meant they were fine! Found out purely by accident that the lab never received them!!) Have worked for a few veterinarians years ago (and in the animal business for years), looking for a good and honest veterinarian can be quite stressful. I KNOW how easy it is to be fleeced, and I KNOW firsthand how what you see on the surface can be completely different from true personality / attitude of the clinic. But I also know there are many compassionate, ethical, and trustworthy people out there who would be wonderful advocates for your pet.....

Today I brought my 16 week old kitten in to be seen. We had rescued her from a shelter on the 10th of Feb and noticed she came home with us while hosting tapeworms. We used an OTC dewormer that treats tapeworms. We noticed around the same time she was tearing excessively. We figured she got into some dusty boxes we were going through and it irritated her eyes. A few days later, she wasnt improving - wheezing, sneezing, coughing, and she started having purulent discharge from her eyes. She also sneezed pus, sometimes mixed with blood. Since this seemed to happen over the course of a day yesterday, we took her in today. She was a first time patient and we were taken into a room very promptly. The vet assistant was very kind to our kitten - she was very caring getting her cursory exam done. Dr Montgomery was her vet and did a great job examining her without causing the kitten much discomfort or stress. She explained what she thought it was (conjunctivitis and upper respiratory infection), and gave me very specific instructions for her care at home and warned me that if this recurs or wont go away with the medications, it might be FVR and we might have to deal with this intermittently for the rest of Autumns life. She also made sure to tell me that she was underweight for her age and told me to monitor her appetite (atm she eats like a champ!) The assistant showed me exactly how to administer her medicines, which was very helpful. Overall, if I have an issue again with our cute kitten, we will most likely go back. The wait couldnt have been more than 5 minutes to be taken back, and the whole ordeal took about an hour to an hour and a half total. Well worth $88 for 2 medications and the fee for the visit. And as another reviewer said - the office doesnt smell at all like you would expect out of a place that houses animals.

In my experience this is a decent place for routine visits (vaccines, etc) and to pick up flea and heart worm meds but dont think I would bring my pets there for anything major again. About 3-4 months before my cat died he began urinating on my furniture. I brought him to Kay, he did a few tests and ruled out a UTI. He told me it was behavioral, gave me some literature, and some tips on how to manage the behavior. FYI- the cat was middle age and neutered and had never done this before. Dr. Michael Kay told me that this was one of the most common reasons adult cats are put down (alarming, but NOT an option for me). So, I follow Dr.s orders, have litter boxes all over the house (cleaned daily) and aluminum foil on my furniture (seemed to be the only way to deter the cat from climbing on the couch). I dont know if this is related or not, but then he came down with a respiratory infection, I brought him in, they gave antibiotics and fluids, kept him for a few hours, and then sent us home. Fast forward about 12 hours, and hes dying in agony on my dining room floor. Its a Sunday and the vet comes in for an emergency visit. Im aware hes being put down at this point. He dies before we get there, they still charge me over $150 for the visit. I was told they would "autopsy" the cat to find out what happened and to call back in a few days. I call back in a few days. Cat has been discarded. I know Im still angry about losing my pet, but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

We took our puppy there after she had been attacked by two dogs on a Saturday morning. All her lacerations were on her legs and some on her ears. They took her in telling us she would be fine, gave her IV fluids and told us she had to stay for the weekend but they would give us a call before the office closed. I called them a few hours after we had dropped her off and they assured me she was stable, but the vet would give us a call again before everyone left. I never received a phone call and did not see anybody at the office when I drove by Saturday afternoon. We called back first thing Monday morning. The front desk clerk told us the vet was in surgery, but would give us a call back a little later. About an hour later the Dr. Kay called me and told me he was sorry but our dog had passed the previous day and went on to tell me he had to freeze her so she wouldnt decompose. He babbled about blood in he stool and said he didnt know what happened, but told us we could come in and pick up her things. We stopped by the office immediately and at the office Dr. Kay told us yet a different story of what happened to her (all of which did not make any sense). We still had to pay $400..and for what? For them to kill our 1.5 year old pup.

If I could give no stars I would. I have know DR. Kay for many years since my grandparents have lived in Douglasville since the 70s and I was told back then he was a pretty good vet. So of course the first kitten that steps on my doorstep crying I decided to keep. I have no other animals and let the cat in for a few days, and then I noticed that the cat would throw up twice daily. I took her to DR. Kay and he said she was in good health overall, but he said since she is just a stray it will cost you close to $700 to find out whats making her throw up, do you just want to put her down? I was absolutely dumbfounded replied, No i just want my cat and I want to leave. I did not pay the visit fee and they called and called and I never paid it, because i told the lady at the front desk I was Not paying. I took my cat to HIRAM ANIMAL HOSPITAL and they found out what was making her throw up for $95 including her shots! DO NOT use Dr. Kay Animal Hospital
