My visit to the Busse Center for a scheduled appointment, ended in a severe asthma attack. Upon entering the ultra sound room on the first floor, I was overwhelmed by the toxic smell of chlorine bleach. This triggered an allergic reaction, and a severe asthma attack. Chlorine Bleach is toxic to both humans and animals. I am appalled that the hospital administration still allows the use of toxic chlorine bleach in its healthcare facilities. When there is a healthier alternative. There is also Peroxide Bleach, which is not toxic to humans. I asked if they had another ultrasound room that we could use. However, the technician explained that they used chlorine bleach in all their rooms. I had 2 other appointment on the same day. The xray was done with no difficulties, and there was no smell of bleach in the room. (also on the 1st floor) Then proceeded to the second floor for a mammogram. Unfortunately, I was met with the smell of more bleach, but not as strong. I waited for 35 minutes, while it became more and more difficult for me to breath. I spoke to a nurse about the uses of toxic chlorine bleach, and the effects it can have on patients health. Then asked how much longer it would be before I could have my scheduled mammogram. They said it would be another. hour. Unfortunately, another hour in the Busse Center, I would have been taken to the emergency room. So I could not wait, and di not get to have my mammogram. I will not be able to return to this healthcare facility, until the use of toxic chlorine bleach has been discontinued. Having said that, the staff were politely concerned, and tried to be helpful.
