My cat Hailey & I miss Dr. Wake. I was told that he worked one day a week, unfortunately I couldnt schedule with a day that he was in. Dr. Rodrigues was horrible: she acted like she was scared of my cat; I came in there for Haileys annual exam, all Dr. Rodrigues did was give Hailey her rabies shot, she told me that my cat would have to be sedated because "because Hailey was too stressed;" when I asked Dr. Rodrigues about cutting Haileys matted fur, Dr. Rodrigues instructed me to call back in a couple of weeks and inquire about when their groomer would be in, Dr. Rodrigues literally quoted me that "it would cost me $60.00: yes, I was somewhat puzzled that she would know how much it would cost; thus I paid $90.00 just for her shots, Dr. Rodrigues told me that Hailey wouldnt have to come in for 3 years, however, when I was paying for the shots, the Receptionist told me that Dr. Rodrigues was incorrect, and that Hailey would have to come back in a year, the receptionist actually double-checked, as well as spoke to Dr. Rodrigues to clarify the mis-information. I wasnt happy with the mis-information; not having my cat examined; and the haste with which Dr. Rodrigues conducted herself. Finally, Dr. Rodrigues told me that Hailey was overweight. I was wondering what the hell she was basing that on, she never answered my question. I know that Hailey is incredibly athletic: I have seen her jump over 6 feet, vertically up a tree, chasing squirrels. In two weeks, I made an appointment to have Hailey get her hair trimmed. However, the receptionist (a different receptionist) told me the cost starts at $50.00 and goes up, "she didnt know how Dr. Rodrigues could quote me a price." Anyways, once I got there, the very first thing they asked me after I told them that Hailey was to be sedated, was had Hailey ate in the last 12 hours? I told them that she probably has, because I feed her once a day, and even though I hadnt feed her yet that morning, she still had food in the bowl. They told me that she shouldnt had ate in the last 12-24 hours. I told them nobody told me, not the Vet, not the receptionist that I spoke to making the appointment. The intake person, then asked another Vet to come-in and take a look a Hailey to determine if she should be sedated. After Hailey hissed at her, the Vet decided that Hailey did in fact needed to be sedated. I demanded to see the Manager/Supervisor regarding this incompetent, inept, unacceptable and unprofessional waste of my time. She asked me to come back later, and make sure the cat didnt eat. I told her that I wouldnt have another day off until sometime in October (this was 9/2/16). Because this Manager/Supervisor has no medical background, she left the room to consult with Dr. Rodrigues. She came back and told me that Dr. Rodrigues told her that "because of Haileys age, Hailey would need some blood work done to determine if Hailey can even be sedated." I asked her how come this wasnt mentioned when she suggested to have Hailey sedated? As I was collecting Hailey to get the hell out-of there, the Manager/Supervisor said that "Dr. Rodrigues said that the blood test would cost $95.00. I told the Manager/Supervisor that "you all owe me $34.00 for an examination that was never performed, and that I never met a Doctor that so-call knows the price of everything. That perhaps she would be a better Vet if she focused on providing good health care and not price monitoring! To that end, I am in the process of filing complaints with the City of Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection; the Cook County States Attorneys Office; the Office of the Illinois Attorney General; the Federal Trade Commission; Better Business Bureau; and the State of Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation.

My recent experience here was just AWFUL!!! Ive been taking my dog here since he was a puppy, so im very disappointed. They now have some newer vets working at the practice that lack people skills. I took my dog in recently for his annual check up and to address some issues. I felt that Dr. Rodriguez tried to coerce me into getting unnecessary treatment for my dog. She didnt really listen to me as to why i think hes having issues but first says its because hes old then calls me back and tells me, its not because hes old and that even though hes had fine test results she wants to either medicate him or give him acupuncture. Ive never had this issue with any of the other vets Ive seen at this practice. Why medicate a dog if hes not sick!!! She was cold and not friendly to me or especially my dog, my dog didnt even want to go to her (and he loves EVERYBODY). I spoke to management about my concerns and they assured me they would talk to her. Well, she calls me back with a very BAD ATTITUDE. Dr. Rodriguez told me over the phone that she was only speaking to me because management told her to call, that she didnt care what treatment I decided on for my dog and that her paycheck isnt affected whether i get the acupuncture or not! Please tell me, who talks to a paying customer like this. I am highly offended and I am seriously thinking about finding a new vet. My dog is 12 years old and probably only has 1-2 years left in him, it is very unfortunate that i would have to change vets at this late stage in his life, but I demand respect and good service.

Dr. Bailey, Hyde Park site, is knowledgeable, highly competent, patient and caring. She took a good history, and thoroughly examined Buddy. Buddy likes her, and I like her too. UPDATE: 6/23/16, Buddy and Maxie stayed overnight several nights and they came back happy boys! And in the process of adopting a rescue cat and coordinating the initial vet visit with the foster parent, the rescue agency medical coordinator and my schedule, Paul at the Stony Island site went out of his way to schedule and reschedule as many times as necessary until we finally got it done! Paul is over the top patient, (especially since Im a nervous Nellie.) Zach recommended Hyde Park Cats, and Ill always be grateful - thanks Zach. I cant say enough good things about Dr. Baily, who answers all of my medical questions, and on several occasions has thoroughly examined Maxie, Buddy and Bobtail. She knows cats. Dr. Wake is a prince and was gentle with Bobtail. The rest of the staff at both sites are really good folks. :-) The phone system is a little tricky, so Im patient and just call back until I get through.

We have taken all of our cats to Dr. Wake since soon after he opened his office in the old Harper Court center. We have had 14 cats in all and every one but the first one has been treated there. Dr. Wake has always been great with our animals, explains everything clearly and fully to us, and has fees that are very fair. So we were very relieved and happy that he was able to build the Hyde Park Animal Hospital on Stony Island when his old building was torn down. We are just as pleased with the new facility, the great staff and the other vets--Dr. Williams, Dr. Henry, and Dr. Bailey. Since we have cats we sometimes take them to the smaller office on 53rd Street, but the larger hospital has the advantage of a parking lot, so it can be more convenient though it is farther away from our home. We have also had cats boarded several times and the staff is very thorough in taking information about feeding routines, etc. There are not enough stars to express our gratitude for the great care given our kitties over the years!
