This is the first time that I have visited Dr. Karas’s office after my long-term internist recommended that I see a specialist to address my Type 2 Diabetes. Dr. Karas was in close proximity to my home, which was a major influence into why I made an appointment. I placed my appointment three months in advance only for Dr. Karas’s office to call me two days before my visit to inform me that my appointment had to be rescheduled due to a scheduling error at the office. I then had to wait several months just to see Dr. Karas. Akin to visiting any new doctor, I provided the office an exhaustive medical history (including my lifelong stomach/digestive issues) as well as the medications I take on a daily basis (including Lansoprazole, which was prescribed to me by my gastrologist for stomach erosion). My exam consisted of a handshake, examination of my vitals, and pricking my feet with a pin. After, the examination I verbally relayed my medical history to Dr. Karas who seemed more preoccupied with her computer than anything I had to say. Dr. Karas prescribed a daily dosage of the medication Victoza at 0.06 MG. An hour and a half after the first injection of Victoza I suffered from adverse effects including: a severe headache, vomiting, a swollen tongue and crippling stomach pain. The next morning I called Dr. Karas’s office and was greeted by an automated message. Not knowing what else to do, I left a message for Dr. Karas to please contact me as soon as possible. Four hours had passed since leaving the message when I decided to make another attempt. This time I was fortunate enough to reach a nurse at Dr. Karas’s office who assured me that Dr. Karas will call me back ,herself. Over the next two days, as I waited for Dr. Karas’s call, I did some research on Victoza. It became apparent that Victoza is not to be prescribed to anyone with any sort of pre-existing stomach issues. Two days since speaking with Dr. Karas’s nurse, I received a call from the office; unfortunately it was not Dr. Karas but another nurse. Worse so, the nurse was calling me to inform me that Dr. Karas was dropping me as a patient. And that I should seek another doctor as the nurse said, on behalf of Dr. Karas, that “I [Linda Pesata] was not a good fit” for Dr. Karas. I write this review to inform others of Dr. Karas’s unsympathetic and outright reckless behavior. I was left to deal with the extreme side effects associated with Victoza (which should not have been prescribed to me in the first place due to my history of stomach issues) on my own as the doctor I turned to, abandoned me.

Dr. Karas is a great doctor. She has been extremely helpful at keeping me informed on my condition and filling me in on why tests are or are not being ran. She is extremely approachable and easy to reach. (She utilizes an online message system.) You tests results are posted promptly and she gives you her take on them very quickly. She definitely has my quality of life in mind when coming up with a treatment plan. She is very no-nonsense and straight to the point. I would highly recommend her.

Dr. Karas was friendly, but I would never recommend her as a doctor. She didnt seem to really listen to my symptoms or take me seriously. She didnt explain anything and didnt follow up after I received my test results. Basically she just left me even more confused than before and I am now much happier with a different doctor.

She is the best physician I have had, regardless of specialty. I always feel listened to and respected. It is actually a pleasure to go and see her! Wish I had more time each time I went. Caring, dedicated, knowledgeable and hard-working.
