BEWARE: I took my happy and healthy pet to Countryside Vet recently for a routine check-up and baseline blood tests. They took her to their back room and I was instructed to wait in the exam room. Within minutes I heard loud noises and could hear her screeching in agony. I left the exam room thru the same door they took her to find her and get them to stop whatever they were doing. Instead, I was quickly stopped in my tracks and ordered to return to the exam room - they said I was not allowed "back there." When I asked what they were doing, why they were hurting her, they said it is their standard procedure to bind animals and clench their mouths shut for such testing "for their own safety" - NOT the animals - and that my little girl had given them "quite a fight." What experienced vet with the help of two techs could not control a tiny and gentle pet cat without harming her?!? (My kitty has NEVER bitten anyone or gotten aggressive at vet clinics; in fact, she becomes timid!) Well, upon returning home, my formerly thriving pet could barely move, limped in pain with every step she took, refused to even consider eating and was obviously in severe agony for several days after their routine exam! When I called to report my complaint for the awful outcome of their testing treatment and "standard procedures" they said that I was exaggerating, that I was over-reacting, that I was being silly. I will NEVER take my pets to this torture house again and, if you care anything about your animals, you wont either. Since this incident I have learned (from others and from my own further research - do your homework!) that Countryside has a horrendous history for animal abuse and a notoriously awful reputation for "losing" pets, not only for harming them. They also routinely over-charge for services and other items such as Rx food that they sell, doctors and techs push to persuade owners to allow (and be charged for) unnecessary tests, then make owners feel guilty if they dont authorize their pets to be "fully treated" as per their suggestions. More often than not pets leave this place sick or sicker than when they first arrived! While there I also saw several poor souls leaving Countryside in tears as they carried their loved ones out in boxes to be buried. For the love and well-being of your pets, stay away from Countryside! Theres an abundance of other vets and pet clinics in this area - give them a chance. ANY place would be better for you and your pets than this hell hole.

Id give the vet himself, and the techs all 5 stars. As log as Stephanie is employed however, I will not be bringing my cats in. My kitten woke up one morning last week and was throwing up worms. I called many vets trying to get him in, but none of the vets would have been in until later. So I called his regular vet, countryside vet clinic. I asked if there was anything that could be done for him, and Stephanie was more concerned with making me feel like it was due to my own negligence that my kitten got worms. His mother was an outdoor/indoor cat and his dad was a stray, so he could potentially have had them since he was born. Except the last time he was brought in, he was in perfect health. I asked if there was anything that could be done for under $10 as I was waiting on payday, but really needed help for my kitten. She laughed at me and said absolutely not (his deworming medication ended up only being $8 and some change, so she lied). She refused to tell me anything that helped, she instead thought telling me about preventative measures was of more importance. Preventative doesnt do jack crap when hes already got them. Duh. Once I knew we were getting medication for him, I called about 15-20 minutes later. I refused to talk to this woman since she did nothing to help to begin with. I asked her EIGHT DIFFERENT TIMES to put someone else on the phone. The only thing she did was mock me and say "Well Im the one with your cats medicine, so I think you want to talk to me" then chuckled. I have been in customer service for over 5 years. When someone asks to speak to someone else, YOU TRANSFER THE DAMN CALL. I said I was okay with being on hold, and long as I wasnt speaking to her, so I dont understand the problem. Clearly, she isnt the one who should have handled it. This woman literally put me into a panic attack on the phone. I pulled my animals records that day and found a new vet (regardless of having to drive an hour one way now, I know Ill be treated with respect by EVERYONE). Breaks my heart we had to switch because this vet was always so good with my babies. New receptionists wouldnt hurt the business at all.

I took my puppy Ghost to Countryside Veterinary Clinic for a second opinion after his neuter site became abscessed. I took Ghost to Yorkville Veterinary Clinic where the neuter was performed. A day later I took him back after I noticed he was whimpering in pain and his incision site being was very red and puffy. I was told that it was fine and it would heal. One hour after getting home from this vet visit there was blood and puss pouring down my dogs leg onto the floor. I wrapped him up and took him back to Yorkville Veterinary Clinic and they told me his incision site was abscessed... an hour later after I was just there! They in turn took out the sutures and stapled it closed and put us on antibiotics. I was then on the phone later that day talking to a close friend of mine who is a Veterinarian and told him what happened, he told me to take him for a second opinion immediately as in his professional opinion Ghost should be on a different antibiotic than what he was put on and it sounded to him like Yorkville did a botched job. My wife and I took him to Countryside Veterinary Clinic where we met Dr. Schlapp. Dr. Schlapp fit us in his busy schedule and took care of us. He showed concern, empathy and emotion. You can genuinely tell he cares about animals. Dr. Schlapp drained the abscessed and showed me how to care for it to better help my furry friend recover faster. After seeing the antibiotics he was originally prescribed, he professionally recommend we switched to a different one. We listened. Ghost was back to normal a week later running and jumping. Thank you Dr. Schlapp.

Ive had good experiences with Countryside Vet Clinic and all of its doctors. The staff is typically helpful and friendly, the doctors patient and knowledgeable, and the prices reasonable. The doctors take the time to research issues they arent sure how to handle, rather than just quickly making an educated guess and moving on to the next patient so as to keep the cash coming in. The doctors are also good about returning your phone calls and responding to your questions and concerns. They also offer at-home euthenasia services, which was a huge comfort to me when I had to say goodbye to my cat of 18 years. And another huge advantage to this clinic is that they are open seven days a week, which is invaluable considering, in my experience, cats tend to get ill over the weekends :)

Was in there for only 20 minutes with my cat and ended up paying $155. Tons of unnecessary charges. $30 to clean his ears which they didnt even clean... and when I said they didnt even clean his ears they offered to do it for ANOTHER charge.. $30 for testing a stool sample which I already had done at another vet earlier this year. $5 fee for what? And a fee for the exam itself... what the hell? All I needed was $70 worth of work but got charged over double of that. All I needed was a rabies shot and distemper. Unbelievable. Will never be returning. I highly highly recommend taking your pet to the sugar grove animal hospital. Super friendly, quick, and reasonably priced with no hidden bull crap fees.
