I will start off by saying Dr. Patten does a wonderful job and has the most professional demeanor. He knows his stuff and does a great job. I called to check if this was in my insurance netwoek before making an appointment, they told me they were, so I scheduled an appointment for a cleaning. I showed up to my appointment and they told me my gums needed extra attention for a "deep cleaning". I said that was fine. I was there 30 minutes and they scheduled me for an appointment 2 weeks following to touch things up. No big deal, right? About 2 weeks after my appointments they call me saying they are having trouble with my parents insurance card. I go through all the information and they cant process it for whatever reason. So I gave them my card from work, I told them the coverage wasnt as good so they shoud try to process my parents card still. (Both cards are the same healthcare provider). Long story short they billed me $600 after insurance for the 2 visits. They aparently were doing an operation called "scaling" and I had no idea about this. I called my old dentist from omaha and he said he charges $250 without insurance for this procedure. My bill showed no insurance coverage for the 2nd visit at all. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and called, talked to a nice young lady to ask her about the billing. She told me the person in charge would call me back. Never got a call back and this mysterious person has never been there when I call. After all this nonsense and avoiding me, I decided to write a review. STAY AWAY!!!!

As always my care was exceptional. Everyone there is truly kind and I believe has the patients comfort in mind at all times. When I had children I wanted them not to be afraid of the dentist and see it as a necessary part of good health (I hated the dentist growing up and as an adult let my appointments lack, until I started going to Ames Family Dental, they got me caught up and in good oral standings!). Ames Family Dental is great for children. I took my two year old for a first time visit and it went so smooth, they even answered her million questions about pretty much every tool in the office. She is still talking about the dentist weeks later and my four year old keeps asking when his appointment is.

Everything was great! The only thing I was a little confused by was scheduling my appts. When I went to make my appts. I wasnt sure what was what. I had 4 appts. that needed to be made. I knew 2 were for the deep cleaning, but I wasnt sure why I needed 2 more. I knew that I needed a dental band to stabilize a tooth and a filling to fix another tooth. I guess I wasnt clear that it would take 2 visits to do the latter and what was going to be done on these 2 visits. Your receptionist went in to the system and clarified what was going to be done on those 2 visits. Everything turned out well and Im looking forward to executing the plan. See you soon. My daughter, who is away at college, had a dental emergency and needed a repair. We had no connections to anyone in Ames who could recommend a dentist, so she randomly chose Ames Family Dental and navigated her way there. What a lucky choice! She was warmly welcomed, received excellent care from Dr. Good, and the staff helped walk her through the payment process. As a mother, I am so grateful that when she struck out on her own, she found a dental office with staff who were caring and helpful, and who made her visit a pleasant experience. Many thanks to this first-rate team!

Excellent dental office! It took me years to find a dentist I didnt dread going to and I can honestly say I enjoy my visits at Ames Family Dental. Everyone is kind and attentive. Dr. Patten truly cares about his work and his patients. He is very patient (especially if you get nervous or apprehensive about having dental work done) and very thorough. I moved out of the Ames area and drive two hours for all of my appointments because I truly believe its worth the drive.

I loved my family dentist of 20+ years, but 3 years after moving to Ames I wanted to find a local dentist. I was nervous that I wouldnt find one that I loved as much, but I found Dr. Patten at Ames Family Dental, and truly believe he cannot be beat in his excellent service, profound knowledge of his profession, and thorough-ness with his patients.

Dr. Patten was so nice and polite. I hadnt been to the dentist in quite ahwhile and was worried I would be shammed for having poor teeth but it was the oppisite, he let me know that it was a chance to start over and have a healthy mouth. Hes very kind and conscientious and made me feel comfortable in a place I normally would hate.

Dr. Patten and his staff continue to show the highest degree of professionalism toward their clients. Technical staff are friendly, willing to answer questions, and respectful. Dr. Patten explains every procedure and doesnt try to push treatments or remedies that arent required.

They were so nice! My son is college student 6 hours from home and was having pain from wisdom tooth that needs to come out. Dr. Patten saw him same day I called there, then called me with his findings and didnt even charge him.
