This is the first time I have experienced a service very poor in Ames, Iowa. 1. I am Deaf and requested an American Sign Language interpreter 2 weeks in advance so they have time to secure an ASL interpreter. I called them 3 days before to ensure that I have ASL interpreter in place they said they will try find one. I arrived and there was no ASL interpreter. I was forced to go through pre examination and write back and forth on paper to communicate. Theres a ADA law that all businesses must provide ASL interpreters. 2. While getting my self examined with my mouth open, there were 3 people in the same room just talking about their own business. It was 100% unprofessional. 3. After paying for my services to get my wisdom taking out asap, it has already been 2 months since I have not heard ANYTHING from them. I gave them my text number, email and personal home video phone to call me. I never heard one thing from them except I have to call them. 4. I requested to have an ASL interpreter placed for orthodontics examination so I can fix my teeth through them. They called me hearing impaired and never said anything about requesting ASL interpreter for me and now I have to make another appointment. The term hearing impaired is offensive because the word impaired means diminished, damaged and weakend. They have no Deaf awareness because that is not how to describe a person. Deaf and Hard of Hearing is how to describe a person. 5. If you are a federal employee, take your business elsewhere and avoid them. I never ever experienced poor service from anywhere. I should have stayed with Consamus Dental in Ames. I assume the price and service evens out if you want to get your teeth taken care of in a professional setting.

College students beware! My daughter stayed in Ames for the summer and was unable to make it home to her regular dentist appointment. She had a toothache, so we checked preferred providers for insurance and decided to call Aspen. She was able to get in the next day. She was informed that the 1st appointment was free, but was not told that meant no cleaning. She was informed at the appointment that she had 4 cavities and the toothache was because she cracked a tooth. They would try to remove the existing filling and then put in a new filling, but worse case scenario, they would have to pull it. What??? She decided to have a 2nd opinion back home. It was determined that she did NOT have a cracked tooth (switching to a sensitive toothpaste has taken care of the toothache). And 4 cavities were reduced to 1 very small cavity. I know from talking with others that Aspen employees are suppose to push procedures and receive incentives for doing so, but I believe they flat out lied. She will not be going back, I think they should not be on the preferred provider list, this is 1 example of why insurance costs are so high. If you go and they claim you have a lot of work needed, make sure to get a 2nd opinion,

I appreciate that they provide free exam and X-ray for the first visit to this dental clinic. However, when one of the hygienists was doing probing to my teeth or gums, she didnt do it softly but instead hurt my gums so bad. Anyway, she already told me it would be painful and this was understandable. After the free X-ray and exam, she told me that i needed antibiotic to treat my teeth or gums. She also said the doctor would come to take a look at my situation. You know what. The doctor said I just needed to take out or clean out the bacteria from my teeth or gums but the hygienist gave me different expensive solutions. Later, they brought me to a office where the manager was. He told me that i had to pay 3000$ for the periodontal disease for the treatment. I said "what". That was so expensive. My last dentist told me that i just needed to have regular cleaning 5 month agos but they said I needed this expensive treatment. I am totally confused why it is so expensive. Maybe they want your money so bad.

VERY SLOW! My first appointment lasted 3 hours. After close to an hour in the lobby, I was taken in for x-rays. The tech was friendly, finished and sat me in the chair. And there I sat. And sat. And sat. For another 90 minutes. NINETY MINUTES! No one came in to say hi, to tell me that there was a delay, to let me know the wait was going to be exceptional, nothing. So finally someone stopped in, the assistant, poked around and told me my teeth were going to fall out without 9 $75 prescriptions. And 3 more appointments. Then after that was all said and done, I FINALLY got to see the doctor. She told me in about 2 minutes what I needed, and that next time it shouldnt take as long for my appointment. Pretty sure there will not BE a next time. Icing on the cake, the doctor sat own in an adjoining room as I was at the desk after my appointment, and she was just chilling. Checking her facebook on her phone. While people were in the chairs, waiting for service. But I now know why there are tvs in every room.

Ive had teeth problems for quite some time now. Practically since my family dentist since I was two years old screwed them up when I was 15. Anyways, I felt something chip off my tooth one day, and in panic because Im so self conscious of my teeth I called Aspen right away. They got me in within the hour, took a look at my teeth, xrays and all. Told me it was just a piece of food that chipped off. They asked me about my teeth my prior dentist had messed up, almost in tears I told them the story because they bother me so bad. They told me they could fix everything, telling me step by step what they would do for me. They got me in a few days later for my first cleaning, and then a week after that for my second, then my two day whitening, and fixing my caps. Step by step they really explained everything in detail very well! I am more than impressed and definitely recommend them!

Warning for students, read this: The service here was amazing, everyone was pleasant, sincere, and professional. However I went in because of tooth pain (I need a root canal). They did a complete check up on me and at the end of my visit they scheduled me for 7 appointments within two weeks... the total (without insurance) would have been around $8,000. After calling our usual dentist to consult them, they said that Aspen Dental is known for piling things all at once, especially on students who will get the work done within two weeks before parents can object, which then the parents get the bill. It was my first visit to a dentist on my own in a new town, while in pain, and they did not consult me like an adult. They did not inform me on what was necessary for right now or even the break down of the costs. Im thankful I was able to get a second opinion.

I was highly disappointment with my visit to Aspen Dental. I stated several times that I was there for a dental cleaning, but after an hour and a half in the office, my teeth still hadnt been cleaned and I was told to make an appointment to come back. At no point in time did any of the staff tell me that my first visit would not include a cleaning, despite me stating my intention several times. The technician took over 45 minutes to take x-rays, repeating almost every view 2-3 times to get at appropriate shot. Overall, I felt that my experienced lacked professionalism. Im uncertain as to whether I will even return to finally have my teeth cleaned after the large amount of time that I wasted on my past visit.
