I am most disappointed at taking my daughter to the ER for her neck pain last evening(May 31st)...i used to work there and thought highly of the Physicians, especially Sean Johnson, DO. I asked the Nurse Vickie Lee, Whom I worked with at Mercy and the Lawns if he could see her. Instead, another physician looked in on her. He barely examined her where the pain is and proceeded to prescribe a muscle relaxer, which did nothing but make her sleepy. She apparently has a pinched nerve and no X-rays or pain medication were given or done for her. I felt like Sean ignored us and the other doc was rude. As a Nurse who is in Charge of a Free Clinic, where we send people to Broadlawns if they need care, we cant provide, I will think twice about it now. Our oldest daughter and my Husband have gotten good care in the past and so has the one I took there last evening. Either something has changed, or they were having a bad night, although it didnt seem the least bit busy, but I will no longer recommend Broadlawns for family or friends, with one exception, Dr. Shah is wonderful and sees my Husband for Dementia/Alzheimers. I do hope others get better attention and care than we did!!! Sharon A. Mueller, RN, MA

Overall, except for occasional specialist Dr.s and staff the "Urgent"care is an all day event, so you better go early. Uncaring, Rude, Ill informed (though they have your COMPLETE medical record or access to with new digital equipment), Unprofessional treatment of patient. I personally have had a scheduled appointment that I waited multiple hours for and quite possibly cancelled without notice or rescheduling option. If able to reschedule had to wait months for new appointment. General practice is a joke. Being diabetic, when problems arise I still had to wait months for appt., leaving possibly of serious health issues, including death. Or told that if I needed immediate care to go to the "Urgent Care" clinic and that experience has already been described here. Often I would go there for one ailment and leave with several more from crowded wait areas. Have had these obstacles for over 35 years it all is very degrading and disrespectful. It seems like us/we (the patients) being in good health is not in their best interests. :-((

My husband has went to the Family Clinic an seen Dr Mathes for several years an we have never had any complaints with her,her nurses or office receptionist, until this past week. I have never been treated so rudly as I was by the nurse Gina as well as the pharmacist on duty.I just made my 3rd trip this week to get my husband his medication an test supplies for his diabetes, the strips as well as lancets were not ready even tho the nurse personally called to tell me they were. After leaving I called again to ask why I was told the were there when in fact they were not! Nurse Gina told me that she just (for the 4th time) called them in...After asking if she was sure they would be ready for pickup tomorrow an explaining to her that each time I am driving across town for nothing...She said "well thats what happens when you have Obama care! An she then hung up on me!!!! I am not sure who to log an official complaint with so thought Id post it here. Thanks for reading an I hope your experience is better than mine.

Attentive, focused, and detailed care, including compassionate, supportive followup by phone for weeks after my appointment with PA Krista Barnes. Also great care from Foot & Ankle Dr. Ron Belin and his assistant Christine. Front desk staff at both clinics were great too ... Also had good experiences at Radiology ... Extremely compassionate & resourceful help from the financial counseling person I met with.... wish I had her name to share here. Also had a very nice staff member who didnt normally do transport help me get around on his lunch break as they were short staffed due to summer vacations. My only frustration is that like most American hospitals, no chiropractic or acupuncture care is provided at Broadlawns... so for spinal decompression for sciatica pain, I need to figure out some other healthcare plan...

THERE WAS A TIME I WOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN MY DOG TO THIS FACILITY. HOWEVER, AS A NURSE, I HAVE WATCHED BROADLAWNS MAKE TREMENDOUS CHANGES IN PROVIDING HEALTH CARE. SO MUCH SO THAT I TAKE MY SON THERE, AND I WILL BE SEEING MY PAIN NURSE THERE. SHE HAS LEFT THE PRIVATE PRACTICE SHE WAS IN TO MOVE TO BROADLAWNS. REMEMBER, A GREAT DEAL OF THE CARE ONE RECEIVES FROM ANY MEDICAL CENTER IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE QUALITY OF THE NURSES PROVIDING THAT CARE. THE BUCK STOPS WITH US. WE ARE ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE HEALTH AND WELL BEING OF THE PATIENT. BROADLAWNS REMAINS IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING THEIR LEVEL OF SERVICE. THIS TAKES TIME. THERE IS ANOTHER HOSPITAL IN THE AREA THAT, IN MY EXPERIENCE, HAS THE POOREST QUALITY NURSING STAFF, THUS THEIR PATIENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS SUFFER FOR IT.

I have been a patient of Dr. Michael McCubbin since January 2012, that was before he moved his office from Pella to Broadlawns. I dont have anything bad to say about Dr. McCubbin, he is a great doctor. But I have had multiple issues with his nursing staff. Particularly his nurse Charity. She was very rude to me today on the phone and this is not the first time Ive had a problem with Charity. She has made me go days without my medication when she has said she was going to take care of it but hadnt. My mother has even called and tried to get my appointments set up or medication issue figured out and has been treated like absolute crap. She hung up on my mother today and that was the last straw. I refuse to deal with a nurse that is allowed to treat patients like we dont matter.

I have my good things and my bad things from this hospital and clinics. Every medical facility can have its doensides. It is the people who make it or break it. My healthcare team now I am very happy with fir the most part. All my specialist are amazing no complaints my pry care doctor however would not listen to about what was going on and took forever to get her to refer me to a neurologist for my seizures. Is she till my doctor tech yes. Do I see her no hardly ever. I go to the walking clinic when I am sick they know me. My specialist team are amazing and are always trying to help me reach my goals in beating my health issues.

I have been going here for a couple years since they switched all iowa care insurance holders here.. This is the worst possible hospital to go to do everything you can to find a different doc some where else. I have had they were the cause of my second seizure.. Because the doctors couldnt schedule a endocrinology or neurology appointment until 3 months down the road.. I keep get switched to different doctors till finally I had my seizure thanks to them they admitted me even though they didnt have the equipment to treat me. Instead I could have went to Iowa City and been taken care of properly with being 70,000 in debt..

After waiting for an hour and a half, I was finally admitted to the where the doctor would be seeing me, where I waited another 15 mins, all the while in pain. After explaining to the doctor that I cannot eat or sleep because of my tooth pain, he laughs at me the whole time explaining that theres nothing he can do. The staff was very unprofessional and rude, didnt seem compassionate and acted like they didnt care/ Charged me $400 and only "examined" me for about a minute and a half, yet couldnt even prescribe me proper medication so I could eat and sleep. This "health care center" is ridiculous.
