Dont be surprised if you get dropped as a patient, if you question their billing. This is what happened to me: On February 2, 2015, I visited Advanced Dentistry of Iowa City, a Tier II provider on Delta Dentals list of providers, for my initial appointment. During my visit, the dentist, Dr. Martha P. Moreland, suggested to make a follow-up appointment for a Full Mouth Debridement. On my way out, I discussed scheduling that appointment with Pam, the office manager at the front desk. Pam told me that a Full Mouth Debridement was never covered for any patient by any insurance. She said, she wouldnt even file a claim, but that I could always file a claim myself for any procedure, as that was customary at their office. However, when checking my dental plan coverage later at home, I discovered that a Full Mouth Debridement was indeed covered, as long as the dentist submitted a pre-authorization. I emailed Pam with that information and she emailed back, insisting again that such a procedure was never covered by any patient for any insurance. Pam also emailed that a pre-authorization for such a procedure was neither necessary nor customary, but that she would get one if I insisted. I emailed Pam that I would really want that pre-authorization. And to my surprise, without any further communication from the dentists office, I received an EOB from Delta Dental, dated March 5, 2015, confirming that my plan did indeed cover this procedure. However, it was clear that if the dentist were to file this claim, she would also make a lot less money. Only a few days later, I received a letter, signed by Dr. Moreland, dated March 9, 2015, in which I was told that I was now no longer her patient. Dr. Moreland gave no reason for dropping me. On March 23, 2015, I called and emailed both Pam, as well as Darcy, at Dr. Morelands office, for an explanation. Pam emailed back, acknowledging my request. However, I am still waiting for an explanation.

Ive been going to Dr. Moreland at Advanced Dentistry for over 20 years. The front office is always helpful and friendly. They are also very knowledge able about insurance plans and if they cant answer your question immediately they will quickly follow up with the instance company. The dental hygienist are very skilled with both adults and children. Both my kids went to them and I never had an issue with a nervous child. Dr. Moreland is the best. She really knows her stuff and keeps up with all the new technology and dental concepts. She has done several procedures on me, all relatively painless.

Top four positive things about an Advance Dentistry Experience: -Timeliness (youll be called back on time, and staff work very efficiently) -Friendly staff, from the check-in folks to the dentist herself -Good advice: on which products will work best for your individual dental needs -Low-stress environment for the dentally-nervous Downsides: -Theyre busy so can be tough to schedule appointments, but thats because Dr. Moreland is in high demand.

Ive been taking my two children to Advanced Dentistry since they were old enough to require dental care (they are 4 & 6, respectively.) The check-in process is conveniently done on a laptop, the staff - front desk and dental hygienists - are friendly and conversational. Dr. Molly Moreland clearly is an expert in her craft and makes the kids feel at ease. Id recommend her and her practice to anyone.
