Dr. Coates has lost her touch. I first went in for a visit back in 2010. She was wonderful I was a high school student with an allergic reaction to eyebrow wax and she fixed me up right away. Since then I would stop in a few times for small eczema patches that she would help with, but wouldnt monitor the problem as the situation progressed. I went in a few months ago for a huge patch of eczema on my leg that she miss diagnosed and left me with a huge scar on my leg. I recently went in for a full body scan for a horrible spread of eczema that she told me to buy a prescription medicine for, but did not tell me what it would cure and to take get my blood work done, but did not tell me why. I got my blood work done almost two weeks ago and received no call. The eczema is still present and I am concerned that the medication she suggested is not working. when I called about my blood work her office assistant told me that I would have to call Labcorp to have them fax my results over again. After two weeks, you dont question why you havent received blood work back? She clearly doesnt care about her clients needs anymore. I have tried to give her several chances, thinking that maybe I just caught her on off days. It has become apparent to me that she is not a doctor who cares about the concerns and needs of her clients. Sad to say but after 6 years of being her client I will no longer be spending my money there. I would not suggest anyone else who has severe skin needs to do so either.

STAY AWAY. On my first visit they did an inspection of a few moles and stated that it was possible that some of them were cancerous. They noted two, and suggested I come back for a second look to have the doctor take a closer look. When I returned on my second visit I met with Dr. Debra A. Coats-Walton. Her and an assistant began looking for moles on my body. Within 30 seconds they had "found" the cancerous moles - THEY WERE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN THE ORIGINAL ONES! I mentioned to them, a little shocked, "Are you sure you found them all?" - they began looking at me and choosing moles like they were ordering toppings on a pizza. "OK, well do this one, this one, and we might as well do that one as well". I was shocked but unfortunately I trusted the doctor. I was not prepared for surgery, thought I was going into a routine inspection, and trusted the doctor. I was not allowed time to ask routine questions and never got a straight face when asked if there will be permanmnet scarrring. Now, its been six months and there are four scars on my body which remind me of a truly traumatic experience. Whats worse is they called me back two months later saying "they need to do more cuts to be accurate and sure". Ive sincerely lost an ability to trust doctors after this visit and this doctor will likely linger a bad taste in my mouth probably for the rest of my life. Im sure she gets paid by the cut, the more the merrier. BY ALL MEANS, STAY AWAY.

DONT GO! NO DOCTOR ON PREMISE! I took the trouble of arranging for an appointment and rescheduling my scheduling. Going as far as having my husband go into work late so I can make the early morning appointment. When I got there I was seen my a PA! My primary care doctor and my sister who is a MD recommended that I go see a specialist about my skin condition. Dr. Coats-Waltons office sent me a PA to look at my skin. I know that PAs are useful in some circumstances but I went through a lot of trouble, based on two MDs recommendations, to go see a dermatologist! The PA gave me a prescription that was given to me by my MD already and was found to be ineffective. I asked to speak to a dermatologist and was informed that the doctor was not in the office and that she could not be contacted! I was livid! People set up appointments to see a specialist for a reason! If I wanted a non-skin-specialists opinion I could have just stayed with my sister or my primary care physician! I did not have to take out all my time and energy to see a PA! It was like setting up an appointment to go see an OB/GYN and getting a PA deliver your baby for you. This switch and bait tactic may make the office money but it does not serve the patients who are in need. I have never been to a Dr.s office where a Dr. was not available upon request!

I unfortunately didnt get the chance to meet w/ Dr. Coats because to get to her you have to get through her UNintelligent, UNprofessional, ASININE front desk staff. I initially scheduled my appointment for 2/2:30 and I call the morning of to confirm my appointment time. When I called the receptionist told me that its been moved to 11:30 w/o my acknowledgment or any notification. Luckily I was in the area and made it on time. After I fill out my paperwork Latasha tells me my co-pay and tells me they dont take cards. So I go out to withdraw cash and before I make it in, she calls me saying I have to reschedule because I didnt come on time and my referral doesnt have the correct date....Now i have been a receptionist at a fast paced dental office and its not rocket science. Prior to having your patient come in you get their insurance information and referral to avoid last min BS and tell them of your payment policies. Secondly you dont change someones appt w/o notifying them! I recommended giving my insurance info over the phone when I initially placed my appt and Latasha told me not to worry about it. Well hunny you should of! because I would never reschedule here and I told my referring doctor to never send her patients here because this practice is unseemly disgusting with an untrained front desk staff

My experience was a unique one. Firstly, making an appointment to see Dr. Coats-Walton was less than exceptional. The receptionist was a bit gruff and unprofessional. Secondly, upon arriving for my appointment, this level of unprofessional standard continued. The front desk was reluctant to greet me and rudely insisted that I sign in. She should really re-evaluate her front desk staff as they are the first impression of her office. However, my experience was not all bad. The wait was pretty decent about 10-15 minutes. Her PAs Karen and Tamra were extremely nice and welcoming. However, as Kirstin said, I really came to see a specialist. The visit itself was pretty quick once it started but I dont think that all of my concerns were really addressed before the PA wrote me a prescription and sent me on my way. And I know that many doctors employ PAs to aide in the patient traffic but perhaps it would be less of a shock if patients were aware that Dr. Coats-Walton is not necessarily on the premises and that they may be seen by a PA instead. All in all, this office has the potential to be a far greater than it is. I just suggest that she does something about that front desk.

I called to confirm a appointment I scheduled with Dr Coat a month ago which was this Friday. I was told that I would see the PA, I told the receptionist when I made the appointment I wanted to see Dr Coats. The receptionist told me she was out all week, I asked didnt they know that a head of time. I have been a patient of Dr Coats for years, this is the second time I have made an appointment and did not see her at least this time I was told in advance, if I had not called to confirm the appointment I would have never known. I am in searh of a new dermatologist one who likes to see their patients and not pawn them off on a PA. I understand that things come up but this is so unprofessional.
