If I could rate this as ZERO stars, I would. This review is lengthy but, please read it through before choosing this office. I began coming to this practice in the spring of 2012 while it was run under Dr. Oppenheim, who was truly one of the best dentist Ive ever worked with. Unfortunately, hes recently retired and the two dentists, Dr. Samad and Dr. Shin who now run this practice are horrible. On January 18, 2016 I went in for a crown and two fillings and was seen by Dr. Jai Shin. I was given two shots of Septacaine, an anesthetic, without topical anesthesia. I flinched in pain and when I asked about his nonuse of the topical anesthetic, his response was, "Well, I dont THINK it does anything.", totally inappropriate response completely devoid of any compassion. He completed the procedures and sent me on my way. Three hours later, I was in agonizing pain. My left cheek was very swollen, tender to the touch, I could barely speak and stayed home from work the next day. I was subsequently prescribed Vicodin by Dr. Shin and it barely took the edge off of the pain. What I then realized was that my cheek was bruised from him roughly pulling at it while accessing the procedure site. My cheek remained swollen and sore for about 4 days following the procedure. I brought this to Dr. Shins attention and was made to feel as if I was imagining the pain. Having another filling needed, I asked to be seen by Dr. Samad, as I had such a negative experience with Dr. Shin. Yesterday, I went in for my appointment with Dr. Samad. He gave me the topical anesthetic and the quick procedure began without incident. As he did the final shaping of the filling, I felt a sharp pain and motioned for him to stop. I told him that whatever hed just done, Id felt. He very nonchalantly says, "Oh, I must have nicked you with the drill. Just rinse with saltwater and put a tea bag on it.". I then left the office, still fully anesthetized and went on my way. About twenty minutes later, I feel something in my mouth, fish around and pull out a cotton roll. Why was that left in my mouth? He never mentioned it, I technically couldve choked on it as my mouth was mostly numb. Six hours later, the anesthesia wore completely off and what I was left with was not the "superficial nick" he claimed but, a messy mass of damaged gum tissue that looks like chewed bubble gum and is just flopping around near my molars. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this practice for any reason to be manhandled and disregarded by these arrogant dentists. The only thing I will miss are the lovely ladies that staff the office, theyve been nothing but professional, helpful and all around great.

Over this past year, I have been extremely fortunate to have Dr Shawn Samad and his fine staff at Laurel Pines literally rebuild most of the teeth in my mouth. Note: My problems with my teeth were caused almost exclusively by having to take so many medicines for Cardiac and Gastrointestinal problems the last couple years. So for me, there was no way around the situation. The job Dr Samad and his people have done is beyond remarkable. I, for one, had no idea that perfect new crowns and bridges could be built right there in Dr Samads offices, often the very same day that the preliminary corrective work, e.g., tooth removals and root canals, was done. My motivation for the extensive dental repair work was very practical, meaning I didnt want to be "gumming my food" in my old age. Beyond that, my wife, her many sisters and others insist that I have taken 10, 15 or even 20 years off my appearance. Cant complain about that, to say the least. Dave Ritterpusch Colonel (ret.) 100% satisfied with my office visit. I had a front tooth break over the weekend and they got me in first thing Monday morning. I had thought they were just squeezing me in but that was not the case. I arrived for my appointment and I was taken right back. I was given a couple different options and I left the office with three completed crowns. No second trip needed as they mold their crowns On site. I had just expected to get a little patch up until they could get me back in for a longer time slot. Not the case. I was totally surprised and happy to have it taken care of right then and there as it was a front tooth. The office is very clean and beautiful! The staff could not be any nicer from the front desk to the hygienist. I have already made another appointment for some other work that I would like done. I would highly recommend Laurel Pines Dental Group.

Be aware of several hundred dollars of xray charges on your first visit. I went in for just a cleaning and they told me that the xrays were fully covered by my insurance. It turns out that they werent and they tried to charge me. I later found out that Laurel Pines did this exact same thing to the person who recommended them to me. Overall, they seem very professional and knowledgeable but they have a know-it-all attitude and try to squeeze money out of you. They also told me that I needed a cavity re-filled when my other dentist said it was fine. I will not be using them again.

Dr. Shawn Samad convinced me to replace an old style bridge in the front of my mouth with a more modern style and it looks great. My wife tells me to smile more, "he was right" he said she would want me to do that. Many thanks for convincing me to change. I would recommend his office to anyone wanting to have a better smile. I do not want to forget Dr. Kim who did the initial work/prep of the teeth. The new equipment in the office allows them to make the teeth and you can walk out with a new smile. Bruce S.

Laurel Pines Dental Group is comprised of an outstanding group of people who are personable, efficient, thorough, honest and very professional from the office manager, receptionists/billing, hygienists and Dr. Samad. They genuinely care about providing quality, pain free and superior service. Dr. Samud and staff made me feel totally at ease when I underwent a major emergency dental procedure. I have never met a dentist so skilled until visiting Dr. Samuds practice. His practice deserves a A++ rating!

The technology used is to date and modern. The doctors are very skilled they do everything in house root canals, implants you name it. I know this, Ive been using this dentist for about eight years now which began with Dr. Oppenheim, who is the best that ever done it. I would recommend them a thousand times over.

Todays visit was a 6-month exam and cleaning, all went well. I was quite surprised when I entered the lobby and found a total renovation, everything had been updated except for the great crew I have come to know as a family. Going to the dentist sometimes can be quite unpleasant, but the Laurel Pines group goes out of their way to make it a pleasant experience. Thanks.
