Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Partners Healthcare appear to suffer from a lack of morals as well a shameful degree of greed. I received multiple bills following a stay at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. At the time, there was a lot going on in my life and I just assumed they were billing me appropriately so I just paid what was requested. However, the bills just kept on coming, and I finally came to my senses and contacted my insurance company. They said that because Newton-Wellesley is in-network for me, they have a contract, and Newton-Wellesley/Partners Healthcare is absolutely *not* allowed to bill me for the difference between their desired payment amount and what their contract with the insurance company pays them. Furthermore, my insurance company representative was very firm when she told me that the hospital *knows* they are not allowed to do this. This means the hospital uses deliberately misleading language on the bills: the bills say "Your insurance has processed this claim and has determined that you are responsible for the balance. Prompt payment for your portion of services is appreciated." I assume this is meant to try to keep you from calling your insurance company to verify things. My insurance company representative said that the last part of the first sentence ("[your insurance] has determined that you are responsible for the balance") is absolutely false, and that I should never have a "portion of services" that I need to pay for. Shame on you, Newton-Wellesley and Partners Healthcare. If I hadnt received yet another bill out of nowhere almost 8 months after my hospitalization, it might not even have occurred to me to check with my insurance company because I simply assumed you were operating appropriately and ethically. I wonder how many other people you have tricked into paying you. I have told my family and friends and I will post this on every review site I can. I am beyond disappointed in how you operate.

I went to the Waltham campus Wednesday February 15th. 1st at registration the chair had arms and was so tight(Im 6 foot 2, 20 pounds overweight, not wide at all) when I sat down my android phone belt holster snapped off. Theres 20 bucks I really didnt need to spend right now. Im 51 and came in for penicillin for a broken tooth. Ive probably been to the hospital emergency room a dozen times for the same reason. Before doctors started treating everyone like potential junkies (whats wrong, doctors fall below lawyers for most hated profession and you just had to take back the top spot) I used to get percocet and pennicillian on the spot and a script for both, I dont mind not getting the percocet although a welcome addition to my first aid kit. I dont know why, but everywhere except Lahey Clinic, if Im talking to a doctor as a rule of thumb, I find I have to repeat myself 1 time for every year of school past a bachelors degree. The customer service level nosedives after more than 4 years of college. So I said to the doctor 3 times and I counted. "Ive been given pennicillian in the past and it works great, I dont want anything else" I go from level 10 pain to zero in about 20 minutes. Then doctor jill claire jacovitz tells me Im getting clindamycin so my opinion doesnt count or she doesnt have the listening skills of an illegal alien speaking broken english. Im sure this crap costs alot, while pennicillian is 13 bucks full price and Im on masshealth at this time, so mass taxpayers are paying the difference in price between what works and what doesnt, 6 hours later Im still in pain. On a scale of 1 to 10, I want to stab somebody in the face, hmm, well call that a 12. It amazes me that the Lahey Clinic management style hasnt crushed these throwbacks to the 1950s Soviet Union yet. My previous visit to the main hospital 3 months ago went quite well 5 stars

PLEASE AVOID THIS HOSPITAL AT ALL COST! Even if your hand is cut off, use the other hand to drive to another hospital. I was sent to the Newton Wellesley ER by an ambulance last month because I thought I had a life threatening condition. I slept on their bed for 2 hours, hooked up with regular heart monitor, received some saline through IV, and had a regular blood test, and then I recovered by myself without receiving any medications. Do you know how much did they charge me? $6674.00 $6674.00 for basically nothing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a break down bill though my insurance company. It includes a $641 dollars for saline and probably some glucose solution, about $1 per second on average. The regular blood test costs $412.00. About $2000 for the doctors, who spent at most 20 minutes in total on my case. Thus I suppose theyre making $6000 per hour, or more than 1 million per year. I think I should submit my application to a medical school right here right now. For renting their room for 2 hours, the cost is $3602, or $43224 per day. I can rent a ballroom in Mandarin Oriental in Boston with that money. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I always thought hospitals are all wonderful people who helps the weak. Instead, the Newton-Wellesley Hospital bullies and robs people at their most helpless moment. Every time I think about how this hospital takes advantage of their patients in emergency, I just cant help feeling sad and depressed. My face was smiling while making jokes about the bill, my heart is bleeding actually. It was worse than the day I knew Santa Claus was not real: the hospital robs patients while theyre too sick to resist.

Overall a great experience. Dianne was our first midwife and was absolutely amazing. She was incredibly loving to my wife during her labor. She was accompanied by our first nurse Deborah Vlass. She left much to be desired but she got the job done. She seemed to have an attitude towards our doula and was even rude to her a few times. Since my wifes labor was about 26 hours, we had a new midwife that relieved Dianne named Lillian and 2 new nurses named Yana and then Lauren. Both nurses were awesome and super sweet. However Lillian our midwife was... just ok. She was absent during important times, passive aggressive many times and was no where near as supportive as Dianne was. They even lost some papers we signed before our delivery and made my wife read and sign them in the middle of her labor. Might I add my wife at the time was having a natural birth! Not very professional! Lillian was ultimately the midwife to deliver our baby and at that moment she did a good job I believe. If I had to soley rate the labor and delivery unit it would get 3 stars. As for the Maternity Ward, 5 stars all around!!! The nurses were so helpful, professional, considerate etc. Mary Anne was amazing and always went above and beyond. To be honest the whole department was a joy. They really turned our experience at Newton Wellesley around for us and made our stay enjoyable.

I had a procedure done under anesthesia by my doctor in Newton Wellesly hospital, there were serious complications, I had to return later in the day to the E.R. I was billed for over $2000. Their story-Yes, the hospital does take my insurance, but no, the e.r. doctors dont take my insurance. It is my responsibility to verify which e.r. doctors take my insurance before letting them into my room, or allowing them to examine me in the e.r.! YES! This is what the billing department told me! And again, this past spring-had an appointment with a specialist-they said they will accept my insurance, got billed again, and now theyre saying that yes, while they do accept my insurance, they are not covered by it!!??? There is a difference....accepting insurance, and being covered by insurance means two different things to the physicians office. In conclusion-when you go to NWH, make sure, first- that they accept your insurance, second- that your doctor is covered by the same insurance that they accept, and third-that your responsibility is your co-pay and not the visit. Its splitting hairs I know, but in my case its added to over 5k in bills.....and its how the doctors are raking it in before the OBAMACARE takes affect.
