Do not use this hospital! My insurance automatically assigned a primary doc based there. I called to make an appointment in Family Care and was told they would send me a letter confirming date and time and would call me 2 days prior and at the time of that call I was not given a specific time. Well, no letter and no call ever came. The day of appt I went early in the morning as I did not know a time. Sat there for 2 hours and finally was sent back and forth to team c and team a, each team saying I am supposed to be seen in the other team. Finally told me I had to come back for 2:30. When I got back there, I am told the mix up was because the doctor I was supposed to see was not working that day. I want to point out that in Family Care Center, you do not see a real doctor and will be seen by a student and most times they dont know doodle squat because each question you ask, the doc has to leave the room and consult and/or research with someone else. So the person that seen me examined my issue and I explained all the previous attempts to clear it up had failed and to boot gave a list of ointments that had either failed or made the problem worse. Also, I was there a few hours, again. By the time the doc was done, everyone else was gone and so no follow up appt was made. I take the scripts the doc gave me to pharmacy to discover doc prescribed the exact med that I told doc made condition worse in previous treatment attempts and to boot my med coverage would not pay for it. 2 weeks go by and the meds had not worked and in fact the condition worsened to the point of physical pain. Many lost nights of sleep, haggard and dehydrated I went to their ER @ 1 in the morning. At 5 in the morning I finally walked out after realizing that they had only 1 doc on shift and that I would be sitting there for many more hours...another night wasted without sleep.

Ive been to some miserable places before but this hospital and its staff are the rudest, most careless, unskilled, incompetent, wet behind the ears medical professionals Ive ever had the misfortune of dealing with as a patient or as a medical professional myself. They were unspeakably rude and inconsiderate to me and my family members. They have no concept of bedside manner, empathy or anything approaching common courtesy at all. After my surgery they left me in pain for hours and refused to do anything. I had to wear this Bair Paws device which was like a bear hugger in gown form. It was supposed to be blowing warm air into the gown to keep me warm but the air was cold and the nurses were too lazy and careless to do anything about it. I myself am a medical professional and Ive done dozens of IVs. When youre about to have surgery and you have to teach the person putting in your IV how to put in an IV its NOT a good sign. The resident made me wonder if anyone had ever told him anything at all about how to put in an IV. He did everything they pound into you in college not to do and when he blew out my vein he acted like it was MY fault. Several days after I was sent home from my same day surgery I passed out in the shower. (I wasnt instructed not to shower or anything of the like.) After an ambulance ride to another hospital I was told that I was very ill and should NEVER have been discharged. I could go on about the nightmare that was Memorial Hospital RI but I survived (barely) in spite of them. If you dont want unnecessary complications and be treated like garbage then go somewhere else!

My wife had the most terrifying experience with a group of doctors, that came after my wife had some reaction to the amnesia after total knee replacement surgery. They appear to the emergency code and basically went to my wife face. she was shaking and could not speak for several minutes. one of the doctors asked her if she take Xanax, she started to feel better and responded with the word "No". My wife started to tell them to make a distance front her because all the commotion started to feel very uncomfortable. One of the doctors from the emergency staff basically started to laugh and commented to the other doctors, Do you see that when I asked her about the Xanax, she started to speak This group of doctors never asked for her medical records, the reason for why my wife was in the hospital. Their behavior was so unprofessional, that I was appalled when my wife told me about this incident. The nurses were wonderful and some of the members of the hospital staff. The lady that is responsible for the patients dietary needs was excellent. Not everything is negative!, we hope that this doctor could respect his responsibility toward the patients of this hospital and his moral ethics for human life. My wife never report this terrible incident to the Memorial Hospital management .

Never will I return to Memorial Hospital for as long as the radiologist, Dr. Shepard, is employed there he cares only for the welfare of himself and not the patient. Because I made a mistake and mentioned I broke out in hives 27 years ago to a cat scan dye they do not use any more, he refused to do the cat scan test even though in the last 5 years I had 2 cats scans there using contrast dye with no problem. I offered to sign a waiver releasing him of all liability and would take the allergy medicine, but he refused both. Not only did I have to drink the medicine for no reason, which gave me severe heartburn, but I had to drive 1 hour there to get the medicine and 1 hour back then repeat it again for the test and was there for an hour so he made me waste 5 hours of my life and $20.00 for gas, not to mention the stress and anxiety he caused me all because he is a lazy uncaring self-centered jerk and should not be in that profession. I want to be treated where the doctors care for their patients not stress them out.

I had a consultation and a set of three procedures at the Pain Center in 2013. I had to be fully anaesthetize for each of these procedures. I had not been to Memorial Hospital for decades and was a little apprehensive. The doctors and staff fully informed me about the procedures and possible outcomes. Every visit went like clockwork. I Checked in at the Pain Center, was immediately taken to the site of the procedure, IV installed, spoke to the doctor, lights out & woke to a warm personable competent staff. The first time I though it was just my lucky day but the next two procedures went exactly the same. I cannot say enough about the staff and Drs. Because I was put under I could not drive for 24 hours. The certainty of the wait made it very easy for my wife or friends to pick me up. Needless to say I was very impressed and pleased with the procedures and outcome. I would not hesitate to use Memorial Hospital in the future.
