Every March is colorectal cancer screening awareness month. And at my annual physical in March, I finally agreed to my first colonoscopy albeit 4 years overdue. I have put off my screening not because of the prep or the procedure, but because I work in healthcare and know the nurses, techs and physicians who would be performing my screening. Now some people may think what is the big deal, but everyone has their own sense of privacy and how comfortable they are at seeking healthcare where they work. As I have had all my other medical care, testing, physicals, blood work, etc.. within my organization, this is the one area that I felt vulnerable and uncomfortable. Obviously, no one at the endoscopy center cares that it is me coming in for a screening. They see a dozen or so people per day and this is what they do. What finally made me comfortable was a day of shadowing staff in the endo center and seeing what they do and how they do it. I was so impressed by the great care that is taken to respect the patient’s privacy even when under anesthesia. There was great care to keep the patient draped and warm during the entire time the exam was taking place and ensuring the comfort and safety of the patient. It was then that I decided, my need to feel safe and secure during my colonoscopy, could not be met anywhere else except at Parkland. I trusted the individuals who take care of our patients so expertly every day and knew that I would be in their great care. From the registrar, to my pre-op nurse, the anesthesia providers, procedural nurses, post op nurses and finally Dr. Taylor, they were all very professional, compassionate and caring. They listened to my questions, provided answers, and didn’t take for granted that I knew any more or less than anyone else. The whole experience was incredibly positive. My procedure went great and I now do not need to be screened for 10 years. So I say, don’t wait for March for colorectal cancer screening awareness month. Too many people put off their screening because of the prep, the time from work or negative perception of the procedure. It is certainly worth the peace of mind and being proactive. Thank you to the entire Parkland Endoscopy team for making the procedure “No Big Deal”. Jeff Scionti, CEO, Parkland Medical Center

I had major pain in my shoulder and went there, I was advised not to go there because they have a horrible reputation, but the pain kept growing. I know my name can be difficult to pronounce but to be called matta!!! went inside and they told me to wait in the waiting room, someone came and introduced himself as a nurse and I TOLD HIM WHAT WAS WRONG AND THEN HE SAID OKAY, WE WILL GIVE YOU ORAL STEROIDS. I asked for a doctor then he said Im a practitioner nurse, still I said with all due respect if I wanted to be seen by a nurse, I would go to walgreens or CVS were my co-pay is $15. i came to the emergency for a reason, they said okay wait, I waited 40 minutes then they gave me prescriptions and I said how can I get this without being seen by a doctor as I requested?! they said you were seen by a nurse!! So, I replied, I was seen in the WAITING ROOM by a NURSE and without being examined I was given a prescription?!! Never had a worst experience in my life in an "emergency room" i handed them the prescription back and left. made an appointment with another doctor. Parkland called me the next day asking how am I feeling and I told them I feel horrible because of the experience I had at your "medical" facility, she said, oh sorry and I will make sure the supervisor calls you tomorrow. Almost 3 months went by and no one called yet I have received a bill for $81.14. i called them to express what happened and they said we will get back with you between 7 to 14 business day by mail. next day someone called me and insisted I was seen by a "provider", she couldnt be any more rude. Now, if they dont take the balance off, refund my insurance for the money they stole from them then I will complain to the Better Business Bureau and go beyond that. My advice is like most people on here, DONT GO THERE AT ALL IF YOU HAVE THE CHOICE. I will make sure not to go there again even if I was dying, yes this is how horrible they are.

Just gave a good review a week ago when my wife was there, now i had to go due to a cat bit that was really infected. The only thing good was the speed that they got me in. After telling the physician assistant that saw me in the er that i am terrified of needles she said she would give me something to help with that, before i got anything a really great man named Ron came in to put in an iv, this was before getting a Valium. Then a woman Samantha came in to give me antibiotics, she then started telling me that its going to be a ruff night and that Ill need rabies shots and that they go in my stomach and that i need 7 of them, my panic was now through the roof and finally the Valium came. 15 minutes later in walks a woman with a cart with 7 what seemed to be huge needless and i freaked out and then she pulled another out of her pocket and said oh and this one. I contemplated risking getting rabies and death instead of getting the needles. Why on earth would you so nonchalantly flash the needles in front of someone whos terrified? If my wife didnt show up i would have walked out and probably would end up dead. Its bad enough knowing i need shots, i did not need to chat about them let alone see them. Really really traumatizing especially after making sure the assistant knew of my phobia

My brother-in-law went to Parkland in desperation because of his mental status (he was suicidal). He stayed there for a week at the beginning of September. His care was below average and the facility hardly did anything for my brother-in-laws depression and diabetes. His blood sugar was checked, but no medication was given. Seriously? And Parkland was extremely non-responsive to requests for disability information. Parkland also refused to speak with his brother about the claim and/or his medical file (even though paperwork was signed that they could share information with his brother). So because Parkland refused to provide any information to the Social Security Department (even though paperwork was signed for Parkland to release that information to Social Security), my brother-in-laws claim was denied due to lack of information. What do you need to do to get anyone to do anything there as far as fill out paperwork or release information? All other establishments were more than helpful. No one will even call us back!

Still getting the complete and utter runaround regarding my urgent care bill from Parkland Urgent Care in Salem, NH. Apparently the doctor who contracts with the urgent care clinic is from Parkland Medical Center. I was just advised to leave Parkland Medical Centers CFO a message (hes out for the rest of the week, of course). I said that I used to work for a medical staffing company and I know how much doctors on contract actually make per hour. I saw the doctor at the urgent care for a grand total of 20 minutes and was quickly diagnosed with an allergic reaction to Niacin. No medical supplies were used. I was billed $431 for 20 minutes of the doctors time (a half hour at the most!) I know for a FACT that contracted doctors dont make anywhere near $1,200 an hour!!! This is straight up FRAUD!!! The CFO or someone in the finance department better call me back and I better get some answers. If not, Im contacting a lawyer!!! Dont choose Parkland for your ER or Urgent Care services. Their services are a scam.
