Ive been going to this vet for a long time for different animals over the years. The main reason I continue to go is convenience. However, I have mixed reviews. Pricing is pretty typical for this area. Not the most expensive, but not the cheapest. Pros: 1. Awesome front desk staff. These people are always extremely friendly and chipper. They greet my animals and I like long-lost friends. They always make me feel comfortable and glad I came to visit. 2. They usually run fairly on time. 3. Vet techs are friendly. 4. Convenience. They’re open 7 days a week and now they do boarding as well. Can’t beat that. 5. Location. For me, it’s close by and they’re on a easily accessible road. Cons: 1. Lack of good veterinarians: The biggest issue here is the newer veterinarians. Dr. Schwarts and Dr. Juliante (apologies for name butchering) are not great… I have seen both of them multiple times for different issues and they seem to both always have that attitude that some vets have where if you can’t fork over tens of thousands of dollars, they make you feel like you’re a horrible person. Their personalities are non-existent. They kind of make me question why they are in this line of work. Dr. Allegretza (again, apologies for name butchering) is great and has been around since I started going. Unfortunately, he’s not there very often and apparently, everyone else loves him too because he’s always booked up! He’s down to earth, reasonable, caring, yet REALISTIC. When my dog of 12 years passed, he sent me a card he hand-wrote. It meant a lot to me. 2. Checking out takes a while so make sure you set aside a good chunk of time. 3. Outdated equipment and office (at least the parts we can see). Look the bottom line is most of us that bring our pets in to the vets are doing so because we care. Most people’s pets are a part of their family and mean a lot. We’re there to get help for our animals or get their routine health maintenance done. The last thing we want is to be made to feel like we’re not good enough because we can’t do every single thing you’re recommending. It takes a pretty small effort on the part of the veterinarian to just exercise a little understanding and be friendly. Do that and I’d care less about the other cons. This place would be GREAT get 5 stars if you had tons of vets like Dr. A.

I had not intended to write a review and had written the comments below in response to a NEVC survey. However, after reading the few --very few-- negative comments on this site I decided to post my recently completed survey comments. We have been clients of the NEVC for more than thirty-five years. Our first family pet, a cat named Nikki, came with only a ten-day warranty but lived to be nearly twenty-one years old. Our second pet, Milly, a German Shepherd, lived for more than fifteen and one-half years. Both animals came from the Northeast Animal Shelter that was then located below the veterinary clinic. The cat’s medical attention during her long life was provided only by the NEVC. The dog had three visits outside of the clinic: an emergency treatment at Angel Memorial for food poisoning, late-night surgery for bloat at Bulger Clinic, and an injection for a venomous insect bite while vacationing in Maine. We have rescued five German Shepherds, ranging from our first Shelter Puppy, to a top-of the line GS from Germany, a semi-feral deaf male from New Hampshire, an aged eleven-year old whose owner had died, and a young, very large male that was taken from the owners’ home by the dog’s breeder-seller for reasons of neglect. Over the years we have developed a fine relationship with the NEVC. Naturally, we have those doctors whom we prefer to treat our animals, as we have had very good experiences with them. They have never disappointed us and their office staff and technicians are considerate, supportive, knowledgeable, and seek to accommodate pet owners’ needs. The only medical or clerical staff I observed over three decades, who did not appear, to me, to meet the NEVC employee “model,” are no longer there and most of those few were only there for a brief time. Whenever asked, I have always recommended the NEVC to pet owners. Occasionally, I have heard comments about the NEVC being expensive. I suppose that it is...but I do not have much other clinic experience to which I might compare it. However, for us, the expense has been well worth the care, advice, and treatment we have gotten for our animals from the NEVC. Please feel free to use this commentary for any purpose you might find useful. Yours truly, Russ Salem, MA

I agree with other reviews that catalogued the clinic staff as friendly and compassionate. Unfortunately, we observed an issue of lack of communication by the front desk and our assigned vet. After ou first visit with our puppy, the front desk asked us to schedule a follow up appointment. No details were provided regarding the need for an appointment. We assumed it was just to follow up with our puppys progress. It turns out the appointment was for pre-op blood work for spaying our dog even though our dog had already been spayed. The Vet knew our puppy was already spayed and the front desk did not read our file before scheduling the appointment. We still had to pay for the visit even though it was not needed. Another instance on lack of communication was regarding our dogs medicines for a stomach virus. We asked if one of the medicines could be provided in pill form. The vet "confirmed" that it could only be provided as a powder. Upon receiving the meds we noticed that we were given both powder and pils. Even though they are very friendly people the miscommunication has turned us off and we have decided to visit another vet clinic.

AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!!! I BROUGHT MY CAT HERE TO BE PUT TO SLEEP AND I REGRET DOING IT THERE...NOT THAT THE EXPERIENCE WASNT PAINFUL ENOUGH, THE VET THAT DID IT HAD A BAD BEDSIDE MANNER. I WANTED THE VET TO GIVE HER "THE SHOT" RIGHT AWAY, BUT SHE INSISTED ON GIVING HER A TRANQUILIZER FIRST. THE VET DID NOT WARN ME THAT MY BABY GIRL WAS GOING TO BE "PADDLING AND PANTING", THAT WAS A HORRIBLE SIGHT! THIS WENT ON FOR 5 MINUTES BEFORE SHE DECIDED TO GIVE HER THE LETHAL INJECTION. I HAVE TWO OTHER CATS AND I WILL NEVER EVER BRING THEM THERE! R.I.P. MY SWEETHEART...XOXO

Ive been going here for a long time, back in the late 90s-2003 with my dogs & since 2013 with 2 cats. One of my cats is very anxious & difficult to work with, but has several medical conditions that require consistent visits for blood work. Well thank God for Dr. Ingram (sp?) for being patient & understanding with the cat & being able to examine & treat my cat successfully. I think this clinic is more expensive than others, but theyre 4 minutes from my house & they have weekend hours. So the perks for me outweigh the cost. & nothings too good for my cat anyway!
