I was a patient at this facility for three months and my experience far exceeded my expectations. Like most people, I have heard the negative stories about "nursing homes" and did not know what to expect before I arrived, but from the very first night I was pleasantly surprised and the experience was far superior to that of the two well known, respected hospitals from where I transferred. I was admitted for therapy and I must say the therapy depts are exceptional. Two of the therapists in particular were absolutely superb and really stand out: Kathy K. and Jogi T. These two professionals are highly skilled and intensely dedicated to their patients improvement; they are truly of the caliber one would more expect from a world class facility like the Mayo clinic. I have been told that I can be a fairly demanding individual but, frankly, I couldnt have been more thrilled as they literally helped me to get my life back. I came into the facility on a stretcher unable to sit up or even move my legs in bed and I walked out under my own steam. Simple words cannot adequately express my gratitude for such a wonderful gift. . . The rest of my experience was also very positive. The facility is clean and well appointed. The nurses and aids were attentive, competent, caring, and went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. The activities dept worked diligently at providing entertainment and fun and connected with the patients. The social worker and administrative staff were both efficient and empathetic, and I even had one roommate who did not want to leave because he liked the food so much. Look, there are always challenges whenever one is confined somewhere besides their own home and out of their personal comfort zone, and these issues are only exacerbated by illness and the reliance on others for care and basic needs. While no facility can be perfect all the time (even a 5 star Ritz Carleton hotel has occasional lapses in service), the staff at Heartland Ann Arbor has the expertise, experience, commitment and equipment to meet patient needs and, in my case, even exceed expectations. As I mentioned above, my therapy experience was a life changing event and one for which I will be eternally grateful. In recommending this facility to others, I would frame the answer by simply asking one question: "Would I hesitate to place a parent or loved one in this facility?" The answer is unequivocal: "No hesitation whatsoever." I think that says it all.

My 91 yr old Mother is currently in Heartland Ann Arbor MI. This is her second time, recovering from 2 separate falls. Her first stay was a couple of years ago but I remember precisely the outstanding care she received then by the staff at Heartland. The Physical and Occupational therapy team was fantastic. Very patient , professional and thorough with all the rehab exercises and safety education for my Mom. I could not have been more pleased. Thanks to their diligence and guidance Mom was able to go back to her own home and recovered fully (for her age). Everyone from administration to nurses and therapists were extremely compassionate and responded expediently to all of our questions and concerns. After Moms recent fall it was a clear and easy decision as to where to send Mom for rehab. Mom is again receiving the same outstanding care that she experienced before. Words can not fully express the importance of the confidence our family has with the Heartland Team! My review would be incomplete if I failed to mention the most important thing about our experience at Heartland.... Jill Vinson/Administrator is absolutely remarkable. Jill has gone over and beyond all expectations. She is always accessible and responsive to everything we request. She has truly taken a lot of worry of our shoulders because we know she is on top of everything. Jill is an absolute ROCK STAR! Sincerely, Toby Crotty

Three weeks ago I had a knee replacement, and I can’t believe the progress I’ve made. I came into Heartland of Ann Arbor in a wheelchair and was unsure of how quickly I would heal. My recovery process at Heartland has healed me by at least 180 degrees. I can walk almost perfectly now, and other residents have mistaken me for a visitor. The Occupational and Physical Therapy teams were very positive. I especially appreciated Karen in Occupational Therapy. Karen was not only knowledgeable, but cheerful and optimistic. She is everything you could want in a therapist. My most memorable experience at Heartland was listening to Motown while working on my OT exercises. The camaraderie of the department is amazing. My therapists took the time to get to know me, and my needs. All of the staff here at Heartland has gone out of their way to make me feel at home. During my stay at Heartland, I’ve enjoyed getting to know the other residents and made sure to take photos so that I remember the experience that I had. I am looking forward to returning home where I can see my new granddaughter and get back into my daily routine.

I was admitted here for post op recovery for open heart surgery. I found Heartland Health Care Center in Ann Arbor to be a very appropriate facility for my recovery. The OT and PT departments are professional, knowledgeable, and skilled. Professionals in both departments had a very significant impact in my healing and gaining strength and endurance. The nursing staff was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. The facility itself is bright, clean, and provides a positive environment. I recommend this facility for anyone needing medical support beyond the days provided by a hospital. This is a skilled nursing center, not just a traditional nursing home. Very appropriate for younger patients such as myself. I was well prepared for returning home after my stay here.

DO NOT put your loved one in Heartland Healthcare! I went there for rehab after surgery. The service is horrible; the staff which is primarily poorly trained aides were uncaring & unhelpful; ignored the call light. My pain medication was to be given to me every 4 hours. My call light would go unanswered for up to 7 hours! The therapists were supposed to take me to the exercise rooms, but they didn;t want to be bothered with that. The food made me sick twice, and a nurse told me that several people had become ill from the food. In the 6 days I was there, no one cleaned my room or the bathroom. Trash lay on the floor. The place looks beautiful, but it is very deceiving. When I told staff I was going home, they became nasty to me. Do not use this facility!!!

My mother was there 4.5 years ago and her stay was horrible. I would not recvomend this place to anyone. If you can not advocate for yourself is is a done deal. I personally call my mom physician and ask him to discharge her from this place. We bought my home the next day home and did the care that they did not do. To add I went up there to visit a friend last year and the staff was discussing patient in a negative way in the hallway about the patients weight, and they wish the patient daughter would take her home. Oh I made sure I got there names off their badges because I told my friend to be careful. Oh and housekeeping sucks. Close the place down and keep the one in canton open.

My mother is staying at this facility at the present time. Many phone calls have been made to the wrong daughter who lives out of state. One to bring clothes, another to ask about taking her to PET scan, another nurse follow up, and 2 phone calls from different people trying to get phone number of the daughter that lives in town. This upset the daughter out of state since the interuptions happened when she was teaching children and she was afraid it might be an emergency. My mother has complained about not coming when the call was on for nearly an hour. I can not comment on the care because I have not been to the facility but planning a visit in September.
