Ypsilanti DHS is a joke. After faxing over paperwork twice we get denied for assistance because they didnt receive a copy of a NONEXISTENT bank statement. Thats right, they need proof of something that doesnt exist. To add insult to injury they claim they didnt receive a copy of the lease (that was submitted TWICE)! Now they have our address on file, they send us mail to that address, and that address hasnt changed in 2 years so I dont understand how they dont have our address. Of course when I suggest handing it in IN PERSON they tell me that I have to fax it and IF IT IS TOO DIFFICULT FOR ME I CAN HAVE A REPRESENTATIVE FAX IT FOR ME. Heaven forbid they have to handle a piece of paper, use a computer, or actually do their jobs! All the Specialist (B. Volsan) would tell me is that I have to fax it, mail it, or scan it. She wouldnt give me the main office address and couldnt seem to get it through her empty skull that the paperwork HAS been submitted and the bank statement wasnt submitted because it doesnt exist. So somehow I need a nonexistent bank statement for a nonexistent bank account in order to be approved. And people say its so easy to get approved for EBT. Ive been putting up with this stuff since October.

Ive had nothing but bad things happen to me since I started trying to get a bridge card. First out of nowhere my benefits got cut down to $16/month. Uhh how is that supposed to help anybody? Then denied 3 months later with no explanation given. Tried to get it back months later to never get any paperwork in the mail until a month later when I get the denial letter. After losing my job I tried to get them again. My worker scheduled a phone appointment then forgot about it. Then the interview asked me the same exact questions that were on the application so a complete waste of time. Then I got declined for not turning in proofs, even though everything that was asked for was turned in. To top everything off, the staff are all very rude every time I go there. And nobody ever answers their phone, or calls you back. This is getting out of hand how hard it is to get some assistance.

If I could give 0 stars I would. My worker is B. Volsan and she is rude and a horrible worker. I called to get an explanation on why my food assistance and Medicaid has been denied when I sent in all my information and I received a letter saying I didnt and she couldnt give me an explanation besides what it said on the letter. When I tried explaining that I have a confirmation number from everything I faxed she said "I wont tolerate this" and HUNG UP ON ME!!! I proceeded to call back 10 times and each time she either ignored my phone call, answered than told me to not call her anymore then wouldnt give me her supervisors number. VERY VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE SHE DOES NOT DESERVE A JOB!!! she denied a 5 month pregnant woman from Medicaid after sending proof if income and pregnancy!!!

I have personal knowledge/experience that the Health Dept does GREAT work! If people do not answer the phone, or give instantaneous service, it is because they have been downsized, consolidated, etc for less Staff to do more work. The scope of what the health dept does is huge! My job as a School Nurse has opened my eyes to the vastness of how the Health Dept helps out our entire community. THANKS for all you do at the Health Dept.

I would give no star if I could. Had to call 10 times and tried different options offered by the phone menu to get anyone to help me. In the end had to leave a message. Never reached a person ever. Worst experience. Sorry if you also have to call this place

The folks at the WIC office are always friendly, and while it can be tricky to get ahold of them sometimes, they are usually fairly quick to respond. They have always done their best to meet my needs, and not push or pry if I dont need help. Great job!

I am so grateful for their expertise. They helped me select a health plan when I moved here, and now are helping me figure out Medicare and Medicaid for my father. They know it all and work to put their knowledge to work for us.

I went back to work 2 weeks after I had my daughter so I could afford to feed my own daughter rather than deal with the breast feeding nazis at this wic office trying to tell me what to do with my child.
