At first Dr. Burke was great, however it seems as though she is taking on more clients than she has time for. Last early December I brought in my dog Adelaide (an Australian shepherd) in for an emergency visit because she woke up unable to go up or down stairs without experiencing a lot of pain. So much so, that she yelped when she tried to jump into the car and then cried out again when we gently picked her up and put her in the car. Without doing any tests Dr Burke touched our Adelaides back and diagnosed her with arthritis, gave her pain meds and rushed us out. Well, it turns out she had a large tumor pressing on her spleen. It ruptured on January 2nd and we had to rush her to the emergency vet. She bled out internally and lost a lot of blood. I had no idea she had cancer. The vet recommended euthanasia, at that point it was the only humane option. I loved her very much, and there will always be a hole in my heart and deep regret that I didnt press a rushing Dr. Burke for better service. Heres the main problem I have with Dr. Burke. She didnt give us the opportunity to treat Adelaide. She didnt even ask us if she could run any tests. Even if she was going to pass away from the cancer, it could have been a lot less painful and a lot less scary. We would have paid for a vet to come out to our house to euthanize her and who knows what other comforts we would have been able to give Adelaide before she passed. Dr. Burke is okay for shots and the basics, but from my personal experience with her I doubt she has the interest, ability or time to treat an animal with anything more than advanced than allergies. Im not even going to go into how rude she was through all of this, because thats beside the point. After a lot of searching, we now have a much better and more thorough vet that I am happy with.

I bought a home in Ferndale and have a large dog. The previous owners went here and left us a magnet. We called their vet THREE times in the first year we lived here and were told they have a 3+ week waiting period for a new client. My dog was sick, or needed shots, or had other "less than 3 week" needs. Then we found kittens in the backyard and adopted a shelter dog that needed immediate care. I understand the need to be available for current clients, but figure out a better way. We chose Royal Oak Animal Hospital and had to wait ONE DAY to get in everytime. Sorry LFOF, you sound like nice people but your new client policy stinks.

I cant enough good things about Dr. Burke and her whole team. My dog is at the end of his life, and Dr. Burke has never rushed me to put him down, while other vets were quick to say I think its time. Ive had to wait for routine check-ups but have always got in same or next day for important things. Ive tried lots of vets in the area, and cant think of one that I would rather go to. Not only is Dr. Burke great, her staff is also the best in the area. Ive been taking my dog there for 3.5 years now, and almost all the techs are still there, they actually know my dog and ask how he is. That is hard to find.

They have been referred in high regard. When attempting to become a new patient I was put on a wait for my puppy to be checked out. Not because of a lack of available time, but a for a lack of available time for "new" patients. We are new to the area and completely disgusted by the way we were treated by the staff answering the phone. My dog is showing symptoms of being sick, is not reason enough to invite a new patient in? My dog is somehow second class for being young and us being new to the area? It may just be against my dog and I but that is discrimination. Policy or not.

I have two rescue cats. One who has feline herpes and the other has a "sensitive digestive system" . They have been so amazing with both of them. Dr. Burke offers affordable professional care. Both times the "sensitive" cat has gotten sick (once eye, once bladder) they have gotten me within 36 hours. They arent pushing unnecessary treatments that other vets in the area have. Patience is a virtue, they are worth the wait. You just have to plan ahead for regular checkups. (Its not just new patients who have to wait for checkups, established patients have to wait that long too.)

Dr. Burke is terrific. My cat was purring and rubbing back and forth on her as she tried to examine him like he was at home. She even picked him up and called him "Stud Muffin of the Universe!" And my dog gets more excited to see her than me. Shes a genuine, caring vet with a helpful and professional staff. Her office is decked out in great decor, and its always so clean. Im still in awe about how inexpensive LFOFs care is, too. Theyve been able to see my animals by appointment or in an emergency without a problem. I recommend this vet to everyone I know.

I have been taking my dog, Haylee, to LFOF since she was 8 weeks old (shes now 2 1/2). Dr. Burke and the staff are so friendly to both me and Haylee. They are such animal people there that LFOF has become one of Haylees favorite places to go (which I have never experienced with a dog before), she nearly yanks my arm off trying to get to the door. They will always make time for you if you have an emergency and the prices are really reasonable. I also have to add that I love the decor, it makes the place feel like a home instead of a doctors office.

I also had to wait a few weeks for my first visit with my cats but that is why you make your routine appointments ahead of time people! After that, my cat was bleeding from somewhere on his foot and I called to ask about it and Dr Burke had me bring him in right then to get checked. I think she is very good about emergency appointments or giving advise over the phone and my cats love her! Just realize that its a small facility with only one vet so when it comes to yearly exams, schedule your visit in advance.

This vet is a 5 star operation period. We have been going to Dr.Burke and her compassionate team of vet techs for 7 years. We have only received loving patient attention for us and our animal companions through the most difficult times. They go above and beyond. The place is warm, neat and clean. They always follow up when needed, and are great about phone consultation when needed.Thats why they are so popular. If you are new, and theres no emergency, its worth The wait.

Little Friends of Ferndale and Dr Burke are amazing. Theyre sensitive to my budget, excellent with my neurotic dog, I cant say enough good things about them. As for the wait for new patients, I recently changed doctors and had to wait 3 months before they could accept me as a new patient. Little Friends is a small practice and I like that about it. I use an emergency vet (reccod by LFoF) when the need arises after hours.
