Sheehy Animal Hospital is located at 18790 Middlebelt Rd, Livonia, MI 48152, USA. The hospital specializes in treating a variety of animals, including exotic pets. They offer a range of services from general check-ups to surgeries.
The hospital claims to specialize in treating exotic pets, but reviews suggest mixed experiences. One customer praised the hospital for its excellent care of pet rats, stating that Dr. Sheehy and her staff were able to accommodate urgent care situations. However, another review warned against taking reptiles to the hospital, citing inadequate care that led to the death of a pet bearded dragon.
Customers have expressed concerns about the cost of services. One review mentioned a list of tests and treatments totaling $401 for a guinea pig, without much explanation or guidance from the vet. Another review criticized the hospital for prescribing expensive medications that could be purchased more affordably elsewhere.
The staff's approach to customer service also received mixed reviews. Some customers appreciated the prompt and caring service, while others found the staff to be cold and focused solely on monetary gains.
The hospital's diagnostic capabilities have been questioned by some customers. One review mentioned that the hospital failed to diagnose feline herpes in a kitten, leading to unnecessary tests and expenses.
The hospital has an overall rating of 4.2, indicating that while there are areas for improvement, many customers are satisfied with the services provided.

Inadequate vet care and care directions leads to pet death We brought our pet bearded dragon to the hospital. We did not have any special means of transporting the animal but were told by the staff that wrapping him in a towel would be sufficient. When we arrived and were taken into a room we were not given any method for providing heat to our dragon. An "emergency" case came in and we were required to wait nearly two hours for treatment of our dragon. He was not provided with any kind of heating throughout the whole visit even when we were forced to wait and he was extremely stressed out by the actions of the vet and the techs. Bearded dragons are extremely susceptible to stress and need constant heat in the high 70s to low 80s range. The vets office prodded this dragon then left him stressed out with no heat for over an hour only to come back and stress him out some more. After the visit they did not try to calm the animal or provide warmth for it before the return trip home. We were told simply to take him home and it would be fine. After about ten minutes into the car ride home we realized that he was rigid and had stopped moving or breathing. We believe that the combination of loss of heat and the extreme stress placed on him caused him to go into shock. By the time we reached home his mouth was leaking the contents of his stomach and he was confirmed dead the next morning. This vet claimed that they were familiar with and capable of handling reptiles and other exotic pets. But by following their care and instructions regarding the transport and the handling of the pet during the visit our pet has now died. Our dragon was the favorite pet of our four year old who we now have to explain to why his pet is deceased. We have also come to find out that this vet has NO association with any membership body or association concerning reptiles. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR REPTILES TO THIS PLACE, THEY WILL NOT SURVIVE!

I have been bringing my exotic pets to Dr. Sheehy and Sheehy Animal Hospital for more than 4 years and I have been extrememly satisfied with the doctor and her staff. It is nearly impossible to find a vet that will care for pet rats, and I have tried all of them within a 30 mile radius, yet I keep coming back to Dr. Sheehy because of the excellent care she and her staff provide. Most of my visits are not scheduled, but more of an urgent care situation and, unlike most vet offices, the staff and Dr. Sheehy are almost always able to make arrangements to see my sick pet within an hour or two. She has saved more than one of my pet rats from illness and injury. Dr. Sheehy has also performed surgery on several of my pet rats. All of them came through with flying colors and lived for a very long time afterwards. Also, all of my pets love Dr. Sheehy and all the members of her staff. My dog, Mandy, has been seen by three different vets and she was never happy when she had to go. On her first visit to Sheehy, she had to be taken in the back for a procedure. When she came back into the room, she was happy and relaxed (not like at any of the other vets) and she actually tried to follow Dr. Sheehy around the office for the remainder of the visit (not how she normally behaves with strangers). In my opinion, the most important part of owning an exotic pet is being educated and knowledgeable about your pet. It is your responsibility to know how to care for and transport it. If you know that your pet has special needs, you should provide for those needs and not expect someone else to do it for you.

Took my guinea pig today to see Dr. Sheehy. I recently purchased from a well known pet store 3 weeks ago and he stopped eating and drinking the past 6 days ago or so. Dr. Sheehy never discussed the reasons why he may have stopped eating, she only stated there could be many reasons. She left the exam room stating she would have an estimate for me. Ten minutes later the assistant came in and showed me a paper with a list of tests, injections, blood draws, food options etc. The total came to $401.00 I explained I couldnt afford all those things and the assistant said yes I understand. I chose the force feed food route only because I did my research online prior. I felt like Dr. Sheehy was very cold and did not go through any options with us and help decide what we could do and or try. Just sends in assistant with a enormous priced list of options in which she never went over with us. I came there hoping to get guidance and help from a vet for this very ill guinea pig we just purchased, but instead just felt she was all about the money. I learned more from online research than I did with the visit. I would never return here or would never ever recommend anyone to bring their pet here. I pray the guinea pig gets better and God guides us through this.

ONE of the meds they prescribed for my dog was fine. The other was basically a mere ALLERGY pill. I spent an unnecessary amount of money there. They wanted to test his blood to tell me what he has, all they told me was that there were more white blood cells than usual. Its a given because I took him in there telling them what he had and just wanted the medicine for it. They sold me food they told me picky dogs eat, my dog sniffed it and went away. He didnt even look back on it. Waste of money considering he was at least somewhat eating his dog food. I was giving him the pills as directed and noticed that he would eat less if at all. The minute I stopped giving him those allergy pills, he started eating a bit more. I would only recommend this place if and only if you are going to just get a check-up. Buy the meds elsewhere, they are a RIP OFF here. I understand I needed them as soon as possible for my dog to get better sooner but come on, they charge more than 10x as much. All in all, I would only come here to get maybe shots and the name of what meds they would prescribe to him then buy them somewhere else. Its way too expensive to buy them from this place. I do not plan to come back here again.

Do not take your animal here unless you look forward to your trusted vet charging you thousands of dollars for tests, failing to diagnose the illness and ultimately leading your loved one down the road to death. When an ulcer burst in my kittens eye and she was taken to the Emergency vet, they immediately diagnosed her with feline herpes just by listening to her symptoms [which they tested her for and were correct], something those at Sheehy tested for several times and determined she did not have the virus. Sheehy then also tested several other things and charged us an arm and a leg, all painful and unneeded tests as if they had any idea what they were doing, theyd have noted the obvious health issue. My kitty had to have painful, avoidable and expensive surgery on her eye due to the horrible treatment she received here. I feel bad and fear for the health of all the animals that I recommended be brought here. The staff should be ashamed of themselves.
