less than a star. My husband is a current patient. My husband was transferred from Clarkston ER which was fabulous to Mclaren Oakland. He had emergency surgery this morning which when I walked into the Hospital I was told by security that visiting hours dont begin until 8:30 in addition to that, he sends me to the surgical waiting room and tells me to wait there because someone sits at a desk there. There was no one even in the room at all to ask or answer questions. I finally found someone who took me to him just before his surgery. This surgery was supposed to begin at 10:00am and last about 45 minutes to an hour. 4 hours later, I had not been updated as to what was going on. I had to call and ask twice what was happening. The doctor DID NOT even bother to come out and tell me surgery was complete or how it went. He had been in recovery almost a half hour by the time I found out. The doctor told his resident that he came in the room and didnt see me so he left. Thats funny because I NEVER left the room , not even to go to the bathroom because I was afraid I would miss the doctor. AND I was the ONLY one in the surgical waiting room. A large part of patient care is keeping the family involved. Not one person said a word to me. I work for another hospital system as does my husband. Were it not for the fact that we like our primary care doctors so much, we would have NEVER stepped foot in McLaren Oakland. I guess that is about to change. I tried once again to give them the benefit of the doubt... NEVER again.

I brought my son in w/ every indication of a gallbladder issue, he was given a dose of medication for GERD and told it should make it better w/in 20 minutes, if not they would possibly look at his gallbladder. The medication did not help at all, then the supervising physician came over and told him he would probably have to see his primary doctor to get an outpatient ultrasound or something (translation: insurance pays for tests that are done on an outpatient basis vs ER or inpatient). So they gave him Pepcid, again for GERD, a while later asked if it helped, no, not at all. He was then sent home w/ a script for more Pepcid, and still in pain. I work in the medical field, have for 25+ years, I understand that it is a business, however, its supposed to be patient care first. The next night he ended up in St. Joes ER, they were floored that he was sent home w/ basically tums, and no tests were ran at all. They immediately ran a couple tests, discovered not only did he have gallstones, but his gallbladder was inflamed and had water in it. After the surgery they had to admit him to administer antibiotics because it was that bad. McLaren - what if that was YOUR loved one? Would they still only be dollar signs? Or actual patients, you know, the whole reason youre supposed to be in this field? I wouldnt take my dog here!!!! You should be ashamed of yourselves to treat people like theyre nothing. Zero stars should be an option.

For starters, I was under care from a branch of this hospital. I had no ability to do anything myself. It started with my stomach hurting uncontrollably. After 2 days, I convince them I need to be looked at. 2 days of hell. I get to the ER, and the guy next to me has a ruptured appendix (foreshadowing). They give me 1 x-ray and tell me its gas, they saw nothing. They send me back until another 3 DAYS passed. They are forced to legally now, because my temp and p[ain level is spiking rapidly. Turns out, they missed the fact my appendix ruptured, and became necrotic. After surgery, they send me home. Until I am in uncontrollable pain again, and have a fever alarmingly high. I have had enough, and went to St. Joes around the corner. I had a systemic infection, and a LARGE abscess in my gut thanks to the length of time my chyme was nesting in my gut. I was dying, for a second time in a 2 weeks... It took me dying twice, for them to even take me seriously. I am a Veteran with PTSD and had an issue with the crowd in the ER, so they assumed I was making anything up to escape my original bed or my anxiety. Glad St. Joes actually paid attention, listened to me and respected me. DO NOT take anyone you care about to this hospital. Nearly killed me twice in less than a month.

Recently my uncle spent 13 days here, I spent 10 out of the 13 sitting with him for 5 plus hours a day. The check in lady at the front desk was wonderful seeing as she went out her he way to locate my uncle who seemed to be somewhere that no one really knew. The valet was also AMAZING so helpful and pleasant went above and beyond and only $.50 more then the parking structure. Overall experience was horrible nursing staff was awful, seen one "fill in" doctor the whole time I was there who had zero information to help. Surgeon was also helpful but surgery its self was a joke. Told 2 to 4 hours seen surgeon after 2.5 and never heard another peep on where he was for 1.5 hours seeing as there was no staff in the surgical waiting area. When she did return she told me he was still in surgery I had to tell her more than once not possible I have already spoken to the surgeon who told me he was done. Sat with what happened to be my uncle hospital roommates family which received by far worse treatment then we did. Not recommended to come to this hospital and now we have the pleasure of having to follow up with doctors in Clarkston when he lives in Roseville and has 10 broken ribs healing, the drive is sure to be wonderful.

Paid $600 dollars right away out of pocket, then I get two different bills for the same. The first one says I owed $1,770 but it was all payed for except for $25. That is really weird because I dont have insurance, Im a student, and I have never had more than $1,000 in my bank account. Called for it to get fixed, havent got a call back. Called a few times for it get fixed. Then a week later I get another bill for $1,770 that is all due. First $600, then $25, and finally $1,770. That is really funny. Apparently costumer service is only open on the weekdays from 8am to 5pm. I work during those times. Hopefully they fix it this time, its getting really hard to call. It would be really sad if my credit score was ruined just because the hospital messed up.

Not a positive experience - Wife was admitted for 5 days and discharged with 4 medications and no diagnosis on issue. Felt like doctors were not consulting each other, which I believe led to a nasty interaction of prescribed meds from various doctors. She was discharged with meds and literally no advise on what and how to take meds. Two days later she was doing horrible with new issues. Took her to Beaumont Royal Oak. They were shocked at what was given at Mclaren, they changed meds, 24 hours later she was 80% better. I would not take a dead cat to this hospital, and I do not like cats. I highly recommend Beaumont. Only gave 1 star because it made me.
