I can not recommend Pioneer Specialty Hospital highly enough. I was transferred to Pioneer Specialty Hospital on Sunday evening June 4th from Beaumont Royal Oak for a blood infection and enterococcus bacteremia in my kidney. I am a simultaneous transplant recipient both liver and kidney. I had been in and out of Beaumont for the better part of the month of April to deal with the enterococcus bacteremia. I would have been in a very serious condition if my transplanted kidney failed. After Beaumont stabilized me and I simply needed the longer term acute care they transferred me to Pioneer. I had a lot of trepidations regarding going to Pioneer and did research on them. In the end I decided to be transferred to Pioneer. Now, five weeks later I am so very glad I did. The professionalism of the staff is very high. Their attitude is very friendly and caring. I never had any issues regarding my treatment or concern about my medication. I was ambulatory, needing to be attached to my IV medications, on a pole, that had to be changed every four hours (and were). I also have multiple oral medications that I have to take at numerous times during the day due to the dual transplant and received them on time. I walked the hospital numerous times each day and was quite impressed with the staff. I would hear the “beep” of the call light, see someone sitting at the nurse’s station immediately stand up check “the light” and respond. Now I am not a medical professional however, I have been business manager for thirty years and ten years owning my own financial services business with multiple offices. I believe I know how to recognize good management and staff after all these years and I believe Pioneer has it. Did things run perfectly every day all the time? Of course not. However, the staff were professionals. I had only one ongoing issue almost daily regarding the food service. I did find out that Pioneer is really caught in the middle with this situation. Food service, custodial etc. are sub contracted with McLaren Hospital and the food service is a sub contractor to McLaren. As I said at the beginning, “I can not recommend Pioneer Specialty Hospital highly enough”. If anyone should find themselves in need of a long term acute care facility Pioneer is excellent. I cant comment on the service but Pioneer does not pay their vendors. We provided Registered Nurses on a temporary basis here for a while. Pioneer became way behind on payment but we still were willing to work with them. We finally had to sever the relationship since they just wouldnt pay. They begged us to keep providing service but they just owed too much money for us to continue to take the risk. Good thing we didnt. After multiple promises by executive management we still end up being ignored and treated poorly when we follow up. Over a year later we still have nothing but empty promises. I hope they treat their patients better than they treat their vendors.

My 34 year old son was brought to Pioneer from Detroit Receiving...which was a nightmare. He was in hand and leg restraints and way overmedicated. He had suffered a brain injury. I was hopeless for his recovery. The staff at Pioneer had very high hopes for him. Within 2 weeks my son has all tubes removed. His trach is gone. He is walking, talking, eating and his mind is getting clearer everyday. Pioneer gave me my son back. The staff is kind, considerate, and very caring. I cant put into words how much i appreciate all that they have done for my son. I recommend Pioneer highly. They are miracle workers.❤
