YOU WILL DIE AT THIS HOSPITAL!!!! Negligent, Incompetent staff!!! My husband was brought in by ambulance for a heart attack. I watched him beg and cry in the hall for help! They sat with no urgency and watched! Once finally in a room, a rude nurse(Shannon comes in) What a backwoods redneck....how did this individual pass nursing school! After he stabilized, his IV bag that was still hung from the pole( no machine, the one from the ambulance ride 4 hours before) ran out and backed up...blood started backing all the way up in the IV line. I asked the nurse to please come change it, her response, " I was giving report and had to hang up!!!". I would assume so! She then yanks the IV out and throws it behind the bed(blood and all). Next, the 4 south floor!!!! Wow, unprofessional! Nurse comes in and does a patient admit profile test. One of the questions; " Do you have TB?".....No we said....she then goes on to tell us how her dad almost contracted TB from some "Crack Head" he worked with! Are you kidding me???? As a medical employee, everyone knows TB is not only contracted by drug use but, contaminated blood transfusions, visiting foreign countries. Most notable and deadly is when they had left on a Nitroglycerin patch almost 12 hours and I continued to watch his Blood pressure, which steadily dropped! I mentioned several times, should we take this patch off before it drops to low? No they said! At midnight, they came in and his BP was 83/53!!! I said, "what?" They girl taking the BP said, " we are watching it"! I said, " you need to let me speak with the nurse!". The nurse comes in and says, that is low, I need to call the hospitalist! Guess what?....almost immediately, she comes in and rips the patch off! Its their job to monitor patients! Clearly they dont! If I wouldnt have been there, I can honestly say, his blood pressure, breathing would have continued to drop and no one would have noticed until it was too late! Oh by the way.... this is my mothers arm after south ga medical centers er staff repeatedly tried to draw blood!!!! This hospital needs audited and shut down!!!! When is enough, enough???

I took my mom to the ER this morning @ 6:30 am by ambulance; she was having chills, fever, headache and severe aching and heaviness in her chest. They ran blood work and checked her urine and did an ultrasound of her stomach, and swabbed her for the flu. After the first 4 hours of being there the dr comes in and says that she tested negative to the flu but he said it could be a false neg; so he was gonna treat her for the flu. He also said that her white blood cell count was elevated and that she has bacteria in her urine meaning she has some kind of infection going on; due to the tenderness of her stomach this is when he decided to scan her stomach; so we had to wait an additional 2 hours then the nurse comes in and states they have to give her benedryl because shes allergic to the contrast they had to use. Im glad that when the radiologist tech came in i asked a question about the allergy and she said the benedryl will help the itching; at that time i explained that she also has problems breathing and her throat swells. The tech said whoa let me check with the Dr cause thats more than benedryl can help; so after the Dr questioned me over and over about how bad the allergy is he finally decided to not use the contrast; the tech told me that had they went forward she could have coded right on the ct table. They did the ct scan without the contrast and it came back negative. Finally after 8 hours they discharge her with tamiflu and no antibiotics for the infection, and they wouldnt even help me get my mom to the wheelchair and in my truck; she was so weak and all the transport tech did was hold the wheelchair. I have used this hospital on numerous occasions for my mom and dad, but I have to say that their quality of care has declined tremendously. I wish we had another independent hospital in Valdosta, but we lost the only other hospital in Valdosta called Smith North view due to South Georgia Medical Center purchasing it. So now we have to deal with their low quality of care because we have nowhere else to go.

I have had 7 surgeries at SGMC and everytime I received the same treatment. Rude, mannerless, sometimes not even recieving my pain medication for 12 to 14 hours after a major surgery. I require a special diet for gastroparesis and diabetes, I was served regular meals. My home medications was hardly ever given to me, including my insulin. Even after all the bad experiences with this hospital, they still transferred me by ambulance to SGMC about 2 weeks ago for lower right side abdomon/pelvic pain so bad I couldnt walk. The emts said Lakeland couldnt handle stomach pain.????? So they wasted my time and theirs by taking me in the back and rolling me out front with a heplock in my wrist. After about 4 to 5 hours later, the pain subsided, it took me another 30 minutes waiting on someone to take a heplock out my wrist! And I left! Seen by absolutely no one. But get looked at crazy and talked about and made fun by the emts & hospital staff just because who I have chosen for MY pcp. And because of that I have terminated my pcp and Im currently working on finding another pcp. Really I would not take my animals to this hospital. You will DIE before getting decent treatment. Bad thing is, they believe everyone is a drug addict, and I had plenty of "drugs"(prescribed that is) at home. I want answers to why Im in PAIN!!!! Not your Damn drugs that you apparently sell when your patients dont receive what they needed after a major surgery. And keep your apology for someone else. Cause Id rather DIE before going back to SGMC.

The service was absolutely terrible. I went off to the emergency room because I had a fever for several days and it turned out I had a kidney infection, so I was admitted. Their beds are air beds and adjust to your body each time you move to make you more comfortable...or so I thought. My bed was broken, and kept shifting every few seconds and made the pain in my kidneys/my back in general terrible. I complained about it many times throughout my stay and asked to be moved to another bed, but they assured me that it would stop eventually. It didnt. I eventually got tired of it and told them if they wouldnt move me, then to unplug the beds power and just let me sleep as is. They didnt bother to tell me it was an airbed in the first place! It deflated and my pain was /doubled/ because the bars at the bottom of the bed were pushing right into my back where my kidneys were. I asked again to be moved, but all they did was give me a pillow to put under my back to ease the pain and a steady stream of painkillers up until when I was finally released. Even when I asked to move into the bed next to me when the patient who was in it previously was released, they wouldnt do so. They have no regard whatsoever for patient needs. It was almost like they didnt care, or they just didnt want to listen to me and just threw painkillers at me to shut me up. One thing is sure, next time I need to go to the hosptal, I sure as heck am never going here again.
