I was so upset! My dog went in for her wellness checkup and they took her temperature via a rectal thermometer. When the tech was done, she simply cleaned it off with what looked like a bottle of Windex and then hung it up back on the wall. she left the room. The vet came in and I asked her why they dont use a plastic cover or some form of protection when taking a temp back there. She proceeded to say that was use a cleaning solution and feel that the covers are an unnecessary expense to our pet owners. So i had asked her if they do this with each and every dog/animal that comes in here and she said yes. She went on to tell me that when we (humans) go to the doctor, we use a plastic cover because we are taking a temp in our mouths, and when taken rectally, dogs dont transfer diseases like we do. I said that was totally untrue. I told her that I wanted to walk out right then because I thought it was disgusting that they didnt use some form of plastic cover when they use the same thermometer for every pet that walks in there. I have sterilization standards. My dog is my child. Regardless, I already found a new vet. WILL NOT ever go back. Not even for boosters that is needed in a month.

We love our vet! They do a great job and really know our pets! Jack, our yellow labby dog, loves the people! We trust the opinion and recommendations given to us, we know they actually really care and arnt trying to get in services that are not nessary. In the past year they have made strides to become more of a cat friendly pet hospital, which didnt make the much sense to my husband and I. But after talking to Dr. Ecklund about the stresses and differences for a cat to be taken in to be seen compared to our dog, it has really helped with making it a much better experience for our kitty. We love it, and will always be clients. BEYOND EXCELLENT NEW GROOMER!!!!!!! REQUEST MIKE!!! You will not be sorry!! He does a deshedding on our lab and it helps a ton!! And we saw another dog come out that just had a cut, it looked great!

A Private User

Today, my daughter went fishing and took our American Water Spaniel for company. Mid-afternoon, our dog jumped off the dock in her ultimate quest to chase the ducks (which always out-fly her!) through the water. Just our luck someone must have lost a lure, and it landed in her side--a big crank bait thats used for muskies and such. Anyway, it was thoroughly lodged into her side--6 hooks--when she swam back. After several attempts by my daughter and others who were fishing, she brought her into Akin Hills. As always the staff was fantastic, and were able to keep her calm while they removed it from her side! Thanks again--you always treat my pets like theyre four-legged humans! We really appreciate it!

I have been going to Akin Hills for many years and I like this vet clinic a lot -so much Id usually rate it as a 5 star clinic, but within this last year they have been giving poor service; theres not enough staff for the work flow (theyre caring for more clients so its slightly harder to get an appointment within a day or two), the visits seem less personal, and the receptionists are getting disorganized, give you less initiative, and are not being attentive/focused. The clinic could/should hire more staff to relieve the existing staff of some responsibilities. Doing so could/would give the team more time indulge in their work and give more efficiency.

Its been a while since I was there, but when I had my kitten spayed I dropped her off the night before then picked her up after I got off work at about 4pm. She was in the carrier which seemed OK to tme at the time, but when I got her home she RAN to the box to pee. They didnt give her a place to pee or even some water while she sat in the carrier. I know that sometimes the kennals get full, but there has to be a limit on how long you keep them in carriers. I felt so bad for her. I never said anything to them, but I never went back either. I now foster for Last Hope and I do hope they changed how they do things.

I had good things to say about Akin Hills before this week, mainly due to the convenience of them. However, my dog was scheduled for a surgical procedure and was bumped, which in itself was no big deal. I actually was very understanding about that. But the Vet who called me left me the most ignorant voice mail message. When I called back to confirm my dog had indeed been bumped from the schedule (for an appointment I made 2 weeks in advance) she got even more rude with me and stated how she set up a schedule to accommodate me and shell never do that again. I hung up on her mid rant and wont ever go back now!

Super helpful. They go above and beyond when it comes to the care of my pet. They may seem over cautious, but I look for that in any type of doctor. I would rather have the options laid out in front of me, than it being passed over because it wasnt what was asked of them. When I couldnt make it in to the clinic to pick up my medication the vet was nice enough to drop it off at my house. Lived in Farmington and moved up to the cities and still make special trips to see them because they are so good with my pet. Thanks!

THE best staff anywhere!! Every person that works there loves their job and really cares about the pets that come in there. They have always made an appointment for me as soon as they could. When I put my dog down a few years ago, they were so kind an caring. They are always excited to see my pets. The vets are top notch. If they dont know an answer, they will call some one who does and they are honest about treatment options and cost.

We started taking our pets to Akin Hills after we moved to Farmington. Our dogs have both received excellent care at affordable prices, and they dont have to wait forever to be seen. The staff are all knowledgeable, and the are super reasonable about what they do. Unlike some vets, they dont throw in unnecessary tests, pills, or fees. Definitely a 5-star place.

Very caring, knowledgeable, and accommodating staff. We have been bringing our dogs here for 20 years! They are more affordable than neighboring clinics and always manage to fit us in even if something comes up last minute. They truly care, take time to answer all of my questions, and follow up on situations. Thanks to all!

Jump through 10 different hoops and then maybe well see your puppy, requires a new puppy exam, and heartworm test to get a neuter? Well pass, I rather not have a place nickel and dime the crap out of me with hidden fees, really dissapointing we used to think highly of akin hills, and would drive further to go there.

This clinic is awesome! I had 2 sick kitties and they got me in ASAP and the compassion was so nice to see. They seemed genuinely concerned for my sick kitties and the price was cheaper than I thought it would be. I highly recommend this clinic! The Veterinarians are professional and very caring.
