The above comment about the unsatisfactory boarding stay has several false statements which Countryside has done our best to correct and explain to the owner however the owner is upset and wishes to make a poor impression about the clinic. We would like to make sure all who read this poor review understand the details and truth behind the complaint. For privacy purposes I will call the pet "Sammy." Sammy has stayed at our boarding facility many times and he has a history of having sore paws after boarding. We have several areas where our boarding pets have space to play, an outdoor play yard with small playground pebbles, covered outdoor kennels with smooth cement, indoor climate controlled kennels with smooth cement, and now an indoor non-climate controlled (2 season) puppy playground with soft grass astroturf. Last year it was initially speculated that Sammys feet were sore from playing on the pebbles, so we have many notes in our records to warn that Sammy should not be allowed to play on the pebbles for "lunchtime recess" or extra play sessions. It was also speculated that the pet shampoo cleaner used to clean Sammys feet might have made his feet sore so we tried different more sensitive shampoos to give him complimentary baths when he got himself all messy. The incident recently where Sammys owner was upset has several important details missing from the complaint above. The owner was not here to pick the pet up, he asked a friend to do so. The friend came to pick up Sammy a day earlier than expected. Sammy makes a big mess of his kennel on a daily basis, despite having ample time to go outside in the outdoor kennel or on a walk, Sammy goes to the bathroom (both urination and defecation) in his kennel and then gets himself quite messy walking through his mess despite it getting cleaned as soon as we notice it. Our boarding manager always gives any pet that gets themselves dirty during their stay a complimentary bath before they go home. Since Sammy was picked up early he had not gotten his bath that was planned for later that day. Our boarding manager did her best to clean up Sammy with a gentle waterless dog shampoo, his feet especially because he was messiest there. She let the owners friend know that she had just finished cleaning him up as best she could and that his paws looked good- they didnt seem sore and no abrasions were noticed. She then went back to go clean up Sammys toys that had also gotten messy. The owner let us know later that day that Sammys paws were sore and that he was not wanting to walk on them- he was extremely aggressive and rude to the receptionist who was doing her best to try and help the owner. I called the owner and tried to get more information about what he was noticing but the owner would not pick up the phone. Dr. Anna sent an email to the owner explaining the details and told him that she was not sure why his paws are sore- his feet were checked and cleaned by the boarding manager before he left and they looked okay then. Sammy was only allowed to play on the soft astroturf or on leash walks outside, he was not on the pebbles. Dr Anna suggested that perhaps he made his paws sore when he pulled hard on the leash in the gravel parking lot when he got picked up, or when he scratched on the front of the kennel but that we were not sure. I offered to have Sammy come in and have his paws looked at but the owner did not want to do that, he said in an email that he wanted to complain online and to anyone that would listen. We take great care to make sure all pets that come to see us for an appointment, boarding overnight, or just for daytime daycare are well taken care of and treated with respect as if they were a child. We would never do harm to our patients, as we treat them like they are our own pets or children.

Do not take your pet here! We have boarded our Morkie here for years and now it has a new owner and new people on staff. Our dog left Countryside with two bloody front paws last year. After contacting the new owner, Anna Michael, she gave me a credit for the next boarding, apologized all over herself and promised it would never happen again. This was in June and later in August our dog was boarded without incident that we know of. Just this June our Morkie once again was released with bloody front paws that were obviously neglected until it was time to pick him up. They cleaned Princes paws right before to try and hide it then when confronted admitted he had sore paws they had just cleaned. Anna Michaels called me and insulted my intelligence by trying to say this must have happened somewhere between their front door and the car. On top of all of this our dog smelled horrible and they returned his toys soaking wet. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET OR ANIMALS HERE!

They treated my dog(Missy, they called her "Greta" during her stay) wonderfully well when they received her from the Glencoe Sheriffs Dept. Missy had been lost for well over a month & she was extremely thin and had a punctured eye as well. I was extremely appreciative for all of the TLC that they showered Missy with while she was in their care. Again Many, Many Thanks to the staff of Countryside Vet, they deserve a KUDOS & then some!! I thank God every day for getting Missy back! Sincerely, Theresa Gutzke (Missys "Mom" so to speak!

Ive been going to this place for about 16 years now. Their prices are fair, and they care. I hate to say "I love it", because if were honest, most of the time when youre going to the vet, its because something bad is going on. They always take the time to tell you the truth, and what can - or cannot - be done in the situation you happen to be in. If youre in the area, and you need a vet, you should really check out this place.
