Dr Steinberg, at West County Animal Clinic, is the absolute best Veterinarian to go to in St Louis! Ive been going to Dr Steinberg with all of my cats since around 1999, and he has always been amazing. He and his staff are great at normal pet checkups and they have also literally saved a few of my cats lives. One of my cats, Tigger, was torn apart by 2 Greyhounds, and probably should have died right then, but my Brother quickly took Tigger to an animal emergency room down the street, who basically just sewed all of the skin back together and sent him home. When I got home the next day, I noticed right away that Tigger was still in desperate need of additional medical care, and rushed him over to Dr. Steinberg. Dr. Steinberg realized that Tigger still had big problems inside, and opened him back up, finding that his ribs were still ripped apart, which needed to be strapped together for the rest of his life with surgical metal straps, otherwise his ribs would spread open when he breathed, and would cause constant pain. Dr. Steinberg also knew that youre not supposed to just sew up wounds like that. Those kinds of wounds need to drain, so Dr. Steinberg added drain tubes to keep the fluid draining from the wounds, and kept him for a few days. Tigger got better quickly after that and went on to live another 7 happy and healthy years, thanks to Dr. Steinberg. --------------------------- I just picked up my new cat from Dr. Steinbergs office after I believe he saved his life as well. This was a stray cat that came by my house every few days and let me pet him, and he would purr and rub against me like he was starving for attention. It is such a cool cat, but his face was being attacked by some kind of fungus or something that made his hair start falling out and left his skin so itchy that he tore his face and eye apart scratching it non-stop. He had lost a lot of hair and had all kinds of cuts and crapes all over his head. His eye was scratched, oozing, and almost completely white. He could not see out of it at all. He almost looked like someone set his head on fire. Each time I saw him he looked worse, so one day I captured the cat, put him in a box with a few towels, and took him straight up to Dr. Steinberg. I didnt even have an appointment, but they saw me right away and Dr. Steinberg took great care to make the cat comfortable, made an early diagnosis the problem, and kept him overnight for some tests. When I picked the cat up the next day, Dr. Steinberg had already helped the cat a lot and had a plan to treat the problem, including the damaged eye. It has been about a month, and by following Dr. Steinbergs plan, the cat has made great progress. Im even planning on keeping him. The new cats eye is 90% better, we fixed his broken tooth, his skin is all but clear, and he is growing his hair back. Were still working on the itchiness of the skin that had been damaged by the stuff attacking his face, but we should have that under control in a week or so. Im convinced that if the cat wouldnt have received help, within a month or two, he would have been too sick to save. If you want the best care for your pet, take him/her to Dr. Steinberg! Youll be very glad that you did!

The first time I took my dog to West County Animal Clinic it was completely by chance. I was visiting from NYC & I picked it simply because it was the first vet I noticed by my parents house. My dog had a stitch that shouldve dissolved but hadnt so I brought her to West County Animal Clinic. I took her in a couple more times when I was visiting St. Louis. Then when I moved home 3 years ago, I started taking Delilah there regularly. Id planned to find a new vet because I live in the city so Im pretty far from West County Animal Clinic, but I like them so much that I cant leave. I even started bringing my second, more recently adopted dog there. I see Dr. Bender and I just love her. Shes so friendly & kind & I really feel like she cares about my dogs. Shes done research and reached out to other vets when we couldnt get my dogs seizures under control. Not only will Dr. Bender call to follow up on how my dog is doing, but also shell sometimes follow up a second time or call more than a few days after my dogs appointment. I wish my doctors showed this much interest in my health! All the staff including Dr. Steinberg, who Ive seen a time or two, seem to genuinely love animals & care about their patients. I also really like Dana who works there.

This is the best veterinary office Ive ever visited. Im so happy I found West County Animal Clinic! After some horrible experiences, I was very gun-shy about trusting another vet. I started calling around, and ended up talking with Tabitha. That one call gave me more insight and treatment options than most vets Id visited. When I took my dog in for tummy issues, Dr. Patterson blew me away with her thoroughness and knowledge. She is absolutely amazing. Added to that, Amy not only held my chihuahua and kept her calm (no easy feat!) but did so while casually giving her a much-needed nail trim! I cant tell you how impressed I was by that level of professionalism and care. Added to all this, the best thing about West County Animal Clinic is that there is ZERO pressure. They will talk with you about your options, but they are absolutely not out to nickel and dime you. They were beyond respectful of my need to keep cost down and be selective about diagnostics. I went home feeling like I have support and am not alone dealing with my dogs stomach issues. Highly recommend!

We found West county Animal clinic on the recommendation of a friend after adopting 2 shelter kittens. After receiving their first rabies vaccine, one of them became severely ill within a few days- vomiting, high fever and wouldnt walk. Her first day there, she didnt show the improvement she needed so Dr. Bender took her home overnight to watch and care for her. She and her staff were amazing to our kitty. They called me with updates, gave me lots of options and were upfront about costs. Four days later, our kitten returned home and kept improving and is now completely back to normal. It was scary to almost lose a new kitten wed already gotten attached to. I cant say enough about our experience here. Ive recommended them to several people since. Thank you Dr. Bender and staff!

On our first visit the vet was unfriendly and suggested that our home life was stressful and that we were treating our cat harshly. This couldnt be further from the truth. ANY change for a cat is stressful especially a long distance move. Or cat got better, but when she got another bladder infection, I called and they said they would talk to the doctor to get antibiotics prescribed.. I stayed on that side if town waiting for a call- never got one. I called back twice and then was finally told that the vet needed to see our cat. Meanwhile, our cat is in pain and discomfort until i can get her in to another vet. Never going back.
