In 2009 an ER doctor attempted to give my husband a medication to which hes had a severe life-threatening adverse reaction before, when the doctor was reminded, ER Dr Poggemeier stated to him "its okay, well monitor you." Needless to say this isnt ok!! He experienced death before because of that medication !! In 2010 we had a GREAT experience when an orthopedic surgeon repaired his fall injury. Most all staff were very attentive to his needs and his situation. in 2011 he was admitted for an infected foot burn, we were told "we dont have a foot specialist so were going to amputate". *I* found a foot specialist, got them to come see him at BSP, he kept his foot. In the 5 or 6 days in between, BSP failed to keep his wounds properly cleaned or dressed, bandages werent changed, he acquired MRSA while in the hospital, per their own tests. One of the doctors put him into the brink of kidney failure - hes still dealing with serious damages from this today and has never fully recovered from the kidney misadventures experienced in BSP. My husband made it clear he did NOT want one of their standing medications, an abdominal injection. A nurse walked in against his will and stabbed him in the stomach administering the medication before he realized what was happening. Hes STILL furious this nurse INTENTIONALLY violated his wishes ! Summer 2012 their ER sent me home with an active DVT without access to anti-coagulation. Following their directions without access to anti-coagulation I developed a Pulmonary Embolism the next day - 30% fatal within the first few hours. Im still dealing with damage from this incident. A month later in 2012 as a follow-up to the PE to see about the heart damage that occurred, my cardiologist sent me to BSP for a chemical nuclear stress test. Somehow their nuclear material infiltrated the vein into my wrist instead of in my heart. This was the MOST EXCRUCIATING PAIN EVER - I FELT LIKE THE INSIDE OF MY ARM WAS IN A THOUSAND DEGREE OVEN - I lost nearly complete use of the affected hand for many months which included dropping a plate on our stove which cost us $700 to replace with a similar model. 3 years later my wrist is still messed up (nerve damage??), affecting many aspects of my life. My husband had to call 9-1-1 due to complications of the infiltrated nuclear chemical, the fire fighters who briefed the paramedics were FURIOUS that BSP sent me home in that condition, fully tachycardic and nearly unresponsive. When the ambulance crew returned me to their emergency department, their ER staff treated me like a junkie. I HATE MEDICATIONS and DRUGS, Im SO not a junkie! Anyone who even somewhat knows me know that I AVOID medications whenever possible. 2015 he was admitted for pneumonia acquired while on antibiotics for bronchitis. He rebounded so rapidly they told us "it was a heart failure issue all along, he never had pneumonia or bronchitis." So was he admitted on a misdiagnosis? Did his primary and ER doctors all 3 misdiagnose him? Weve since learned 3 months later that it was actually a massive kidney stone blockage diagnosed at another hospital contributing to his edema and draining his immune system. Weve been told the kidney stone had been there "a long time" so undoubtedly it was a big part of the problem that was also not caught here sooner. Our concern, did the stones develop during the 2011 kidney misadventures at this facility? Needless to say in 2015 a 3 month delay in kidney treatment and their pushing of diuretic with the kidney stones was probably not good for his overall well-being. Other support staff are amazing particularly dietary, just beware several doctors and nurses. Be fully prepared to advocate on behalf of yourself or your loved one. ASK QUESTIONS. Request copies of ALL labs and reports. Read them carefully and thoroughly, youd be surprised what you find including the snide derogatory comments in the nursing remarks. They need to learn to NOT put mens urinals ON the food tray or on the tray table - do they seriously consider this ok ?!?!

I have had bad expieriences at this hospital twice in the last couple months. The first time i went to the emercency room due to chest pains that i thought could be heartburn or acid reflux. They got me into a room quickly ran an ekg test and bloodwork the nurse who put in my iv completly blew my vein it took almost a month for the bruising and pain to go xompletly away. When the bloodwork and ekg came back normal they decided to do an ultrasound of my gall bladder and moved me from a room to a recliner in the hallway to wait to be taked for the ultrasound. After getting the ultrasound done they returned me to the same recliner in the hallway where i spent the rest of my visit. The er was not busy enuf that i should have been moved to sit in a hallway. Then even tho i was rating my pain at ano hight than a 4 tbe entire time i was there they gave me a shot of pepcid for what they determined was stress iduced acid reflux and a shot of morphine. First of all i have never had morphine in my life so it seemed kindnof extreme to be given something so strong. And secondly i was appalled that i was given it in a hallway with no monitering system hooked up to me. To be sitting in a hallway like that is in my opinion agaisnt hippa privacy policies and to be given a potent drug like morphine for the first time with out any type of monitoring system on me is ridiculous. Thankfully i didnt have any adverse reaction to the medication but if i had that could have been very bad The second expierience i encountered was while i was at the er with my best friend. She spent 2 hours in your waiting room and once we finally got back to a room the doctor came in and spent a total of 15 minutes with her. She came in because of a raised bump on her leg that was causing so much pain that when pressed on she passed out from the pain. The doctore didnt even attept to physically examine the bump they looked at it sent a nurse in to give her a shot of an anti inflamotory medication and then sent her home saying with a perscription for an anti-iflamitory medicine and an antibiotic and diagnosed it as an infected bug bit. She has had this bump off and on for a long time it is not red and has no puncture wounds of any kinds which to my mind would indicate a bit of some kind. And she also informed the doctor that her daughter twice jn the last year and a half has had to have cysts surgically removed and that cancer runs im her family. The bump on her leg looks exactly like the cysts her daughter has so for this establishment to pass this off as an infected bug bite is horendous. This hospital is horrible and needs serious help

This is a message concerning the Emergency Room department and my current experience there. In writing this message, I do not have any inquiries other than a request that attention be brought to this matter diligently. Recently, my sister was admitted to the emergency room with severe chest pain. I was initially impressed with the efficiency with obtaining her EKG, cardiac enzymes and subjective reports; however, the demeanor of certain hospital staff lacked a great deal of sympathy. Between audible jokes made about my family and incessant chatter and laughter directed toward our concern for her well being, we were uncomfortable to say the least. In particular, there was a young man, black hair, scrubs, no name tag, tattoos, who was particularly insensitive to her needs. Having an extensive education in health sciences, I did not appreciate how quickly I was written off when I observed changes in her EKG. Having lost both our father and step father in the last decade (one of whom passed in the same ER) I also did not appreciate his lack of sympathy or candor with her case. This comment will be taken both to the general reviews online about this Barnes location as well as HR and BBB. I will no longer utilize your services and I hope that you address this matter for the sake of those who care deeply about the services their loved ones receive. I understand how difficult it can be to work in the health care field, but it is pertinent that you keep your opinions and attitudes about the patients you are dealing with home with you and have enough professionalism to let them subside and recognize that it is a life you are dealing with; an important one. Thank you
