Very nice, knowledgeable staff...and super cheap! I recently moved from PA to NJ, so since all of my other living expenses had gone up, I expected the vet bill to do so, as well. Wrong - my friend recommended Dr. Carter (Sr.) and he was very good with handling my 3 yr old Papillon, whos very friendly but HATES going to the vet. An office visit is $30, and since my dog was due for some shots, heartworm test, etc, the total bill wound up being $107. The same procedures at my old vet (provided they havent raised prices in the last year) would have been $145. They confirm orders placed through 1800Petmeds (something else my old vet wouldnt do...talk about greedy money makers) so I can now save on that, too. Only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the building is kind of old :) but hey, Id rather them use their resources to provide their patients with a knowledgeable, friendly staff - which they do!

I decided to try Mercerville Animal Hospital, as I found the Animal Hospital near my home (and the Princeton Junction train station) to be too expensive. I was very pleased with Mercerville. Its a small office (with low overhead) and more importantly, the vets are VERY COMPETENT. Doctor Stewart immediately diagnosed a serious condition with my dog on our first visit, without the need for a battery of tests. (This issue had been misdiagnosed by a vet I had visited while vacationing in Miami three weeks prior.) I also appreciated his direct yet compassionate style. I wish I had discovered Mercerville earlier. I find that too many larger clinics are going the way of human hospitals, with a business focus on maximizing revenue. At Mercerville, it is clear that the Vets there are in charge, they can stay true to the ideals which drove them to become Vets, and they truly care about your pet.

Ive been going to the Drs. Carter for over 45 years. They were the most knowledgeable and reasonably priced and never tried to talk you into expensive procedures. The oldest Dr. Carter would even suggest home remedies so my pets would not need expensive medicines. Well times change and so has this practice. There is now a new female doctor there who pushes expensive procedures, talks you into unnecessary tests, gives incorrect medication so you have to return multiple times for the same issue. And she is very unprofessional in that she bad mouths other doctors and brags about how she gets free services for her pet as a professional courtesy because shes a doctor. Sadly, I am looking for a new vet.

I gave the Mercerville Animal Hospital four stars instead of five because their front desk can be a little ditzy and we had the same experience as the previous reviewer with the lady vet--unnecessary tests and the wrong medication. Fortunately, we only saw her once and have been seeing Dr. Stuart since. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Dr. Stuart and so does our dog. He really takes the time to listen to us and has a great "bedside" manner with her. She actually looks forward to going to see him. His techs are great with her too. Dr. Stuart always makes sure we understand our treatment options and keeps both our dogs health and our budget in mind. Would recommend him in a heartbeat.

There is a No star rating or he would get it. He sucks as Vet. He misdiagnosed the lg lump on my boy Jacks stomach and then his shoulder consequently I fould my belove boy dead one morning. This Scum bag vet told me 3 different times I brought Jack in with regard to these growing lumps and repeatedly was told "I told you last time, its only fat"! My advise is you truly love your pet Dont take them to this quack! Hes only into it for the money!

Dr. William J. Carter (Sr.) is the best vet in the area for diagnosing. Even without lab work, he is always right when it comes to diagnosing and treating my dogs and cats. The only other vet that has seen my cat was Dr. Stewart. He was excellent with my very shy and nervous cat and made her feel safe. The staff is great, especially Janine. Michele runs an efficient office. I guess it is in the genes! I love Dr. Carter and hope he never retires.
