My senior cat, Princess, owes her dear life to the great job Dr. Schafer and his staff (Mark, Stacy and Jessica) have given her this past year and a half. Princess was spending most of her time in my closet and did not socialize much. She had lost weight. She suffers from hyperthroid, now under control with a transdermal medication twice a day as she is not a good pill taker. It is amazing how she would remind me on some days to medicate her. She then suffered a urinary tract infection. I have been giving her daily IV fluid injections. Now I am changing to every other day. She tells me when she needs it by heading into the laundry room where I have the bag of lactated solution set-up. She then had a very bad kidney infection, and I had to give her daily liquid antibiotics for close to a month. You know? She never fought me. She is now off of the antibiotics and seems to be gaining a bit of weight. She always was a good eater. Princess has come out of my closet now, sleeps in her favorite places around the house, follows her mommy around like a puppy, mingles with her pal, Cleo, and seeks her regular hugs. She knows and appreciates how her medical team at SPAHospital and mommy have made her well again. I am so grateful to Dr. Schafer and his caring staff. I highly recommend Scotch Plains Animal Hospital to anyone seeking a topnotch vet and staff. Dr. Schafer even follows up with personal calls to check up on Princess. He definitely cares for our beloved furry members of the family, as does his entire staff. Everyone has been anything but caring and marvelous. Princess also sends her best regards and thanks.

I went to him a few years ago for my cat & thought he was good. He seemed empathetic to how I felt about leaving my cat there, so he took care of everything while I was there. I called today about my cat & the girl who answered the phone was great - she gave me advice & took her time with me. I asked how they did their anesthesia procedure & she told me. (I had gone to another vet for my other cat & felt uncomfortable about how they "put her down.") SPAH said I could stay with my cat when it comes to that. This is where I will be going when I have to take my cat to the vet again.

The staff at scotch plains animal hospital are AMAZING. A true vet who cares about animals. Dr. Schafer has been my cats vet for over 15 years. He has saved a few of their lives, was there when it came their time to cross over the rainbow bridge. Opened in the middle of the night and during one of our snowstorms because one of my cats were sick. Everyone on staff is truly amazing and caring. Your pets are in good hands with Dr S and the staff at Scotch Plains animal hospital.

I never write reviews, but felt compelled to after chancing upon the Jun 30 posting. Ive had two dogs cared for by SPAH for 14 years, from first puppy checkup through their old age and unfortunately finally having to put them down. At all times the doctor and his staff were gentle, caring, and empathetic. Would recommend them to any pet owner/lover.

I couldnt ask for a more attentive vet. He is available 7 days a week. When one of my animals was critically ill, he gave me a cell number to call during a holiday if things changed. He seems gruff when you first meet him, but hes got a heart as big as all outdoors.

They can be true eccentrics, but they give a damn and do right by their clients. My family has used them for decades and we still travel across the state whenever there is an issue... or whenever it is time to say goodbye to one of our pets.

been bringing my dog here for the past 7 years the doc great really cares about the animals even when they were closed i was able to call his answering service and they paged the doctor and he called me back promptly

We have used this vet for the past 2o+ years. He was great to our two 15 year plus years dogs and we now use him for our newest puppy. Its great to have a great pet, but its even better to have a great Vet. MB
