Wannabe Scammers. The first time we went there (2014) for our annual shots/check-up, the vet said the older of our two indoor cats had a "hint" of a heart murmur. Other than that, we didnt have any stand-out issues. We admittedly skipped a year of visits, but this week (2016) went back in. First, they tried to charge us $75 (each cat) for a 1-3 year vaccine, even though the last time they got the *same* vaccine was less than 3 years ago. After we got that off the bill, the vet said he thinks both of our cats have asthma. (Theyve never shown any symptoms of this whatsoever) and he *never* brought up any heart murmur like the other vet tried to pull. Then, he recommended we get dental exams for our older cat- he thought theyd need to extract a tooth, and he handed us a pamphlet, strongly encouraging us to immediately sign up for their $70/month dental program to cover the cost of the dental procedures and the vaccines we got that day (he came into the room with this pamphlet BEFORE he even laid eyes on the cats, by the way). When my husband and I said wed think about it, only then did the vet tech in the room say that we actually had a 7 day grace-period to decide on the dental program, which would then retroactively cover the cost of the vaccines from our initial visit. As if we didnt feel scammed enough, as we were leaving and paying our final bill, the tech at the counter overcharged us by $75! She charged us for shots the cats never even got. My husband didnt realize it until he got to the car, so he went right back in and fought her on it. They were so focused on the up-sell it was disgusting. Ive been researching other vets in the area and will be going there for a second opinion. Stay away from this place.

Yes, the prices CAN be on the high side, but honestly, when it comes to the care of your pets I dont think cutting corners is a good idea. The doctors and techs at Madison Veterinary Hospital are the BEST in New Jersey. The doctors are very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. We made the mistake of taking our dog to a "low cost" vet clinic. (Banfield in East Hanover) The vet (Debra Morris) entered the room and with barely a hello to me and not even a pat on the head to my pup, she grabbed my puppy and dragged her across the table by her sore paw, gave a two second look and then said "It looks like cancer". Then gave us a bill for $500 for all the "tests" my baby would need. I was so put off and uncomfortable and furious that we left immediately and took her to Madison Vet Hospital where we should have gone in the first place. We were greeted with smiles and hugs and within 30 minutes Dr. Van Beveren had assessed, treated and bandaged our baby up and delivered her to us. She had a sliver in her paw that was infected...NOT cancer. The bill was under $200, including anti biotics and pain meds. We were expecting the bill to be much higher honestly, but I didnt care. The kindness and concern shown to my puppy and to our family was worth it. We learned our lesson. You get what you pay for. The Vets at this clinic cannot be beat. They care about your pets. They are professional and highly qualified and at the end of the day, you cant put a price on that.

I have felt content with the care and level of professionalism that I have received from Drs. Bostek-Brady, Van Beveren, and Erdman. Where I have felt completely surprised, disheartened, and dismayed is with the outrageous fees that are charged for all services including boarding of an animal who receives injectable medication. It is highly advisable to ask for a detailed estimate before any services are rendered because a simple problem can quickly reach several hundred dollars as they start to add blood tests, and other procedures to evaluate the problem. As a pet owner I want to ensure the health and happiness of my pet while at the same time be able to pay my bills. The approach that this facility takes is to run every possible test/procedure to identify a problem and its appropriate treatment instead of honing in on the most likely diagnosis, treating it, and if the probelm isnt better reurning for additional follow up. The "lets run every possible test/procedure that we can" approach takes far more money and resources than would be spent on a human seeking medical attention for a similar problem. I will seek Madison Veterinary Hospitals assistance for very specific needs of my animal but have found other more affordable locations for routine physicals, vaccines and boarding. Please consider Roxdane Kennels in Watchung for boarding of your animals espcially if they have specific medical needs.

Madison hospital has caring vets, and good service, but be prepared for lots of hidden charges and extra efforts to sell up services. We get shocked every time we take our dog there. This last time, our dog had an ear infection. This happens about once a year and usually runs about $125 our so for the examination and medication. This time it, inexplicably, the price jumped to $278! So here is what happens. The doctor tells you everything under the sun they want to do and hope that you just say "ok" because you think everything is included, but it isnt, and they will never tell you how much everything costs. Until the very end. This is not a case of you get what you pay for or nothing is too good for my pet, it is a sham, plain and simple. This is not premium service, it is a rip-off. Others my be comfortable getting taken advantage of because they are under the false impression that they must be getting something out of it, but all they are getting is robed by friendly, well trained vets-they just cannot comprehend what has happened to them either because they are either all wraped up in their pet or just too rich to notice the bill. BEWARE OF THIS ESTABLISHMENT-GO AT YOUR OWN RISK, QUESTION EVERY CHARGE AND PROCEDURE, ASK HOW MUCH EVERYTHING COSTS UP FRONT OR YOU WILL BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. ANYTHING OVER $200 GET A SECOND OPINION.

My chameleon began moving slowly so I looked online to find a reptile vet near me. Surprisingly, there was one in my town. I had to wait a few days because the vet that has reptile experience works, I believe, Saturday through Wednesday. Meanwhile, I read LOTS of things on the internet about what my be wrong with Prudence, my one year old chameleon. Many of the blogs and forums suggested that many reptile vets arent really knowledgeable with chameleons and basically just run blood and fecal tests. Needless to say, I was feeling discouraged about the upcoming appointment but I was SO pleasantly surprised with Dr. Anderson. I was feeling nervous about our Sunday morning appointment and I called on Saturday to talk to the doctor (annoying, I know). Not only did he speak to me, he took the time to listen and was knowledgeable about chameleons. When we arrived on Sunday morning he was gentle with my sick little pet and he explained everything to us in detail. He didnt try to upsell or push any other services on us. We are so pleased with Dr. Anderson and the Madison Animal Hospital that we will be changing to them for our cats and dog, as well. Their hours are AMAZING (8-8, Mon-Sat and 8-4? Sun) and their staff was extremely friendly and understanding. I would recommend Madison Animal Hospital to anyone!!!
