We needed to euthanize our very old cat who had suddenly developed seizures and hind legs that subsequently became paralyzed. A sad event but a necessary one to be taken. Having said that I can only comment that the experience was handled with courtesy, respect, humility and compassion. There was a possibility of rabies as I was badly bitten during the seizure. The cat was on the bed and I was sleeping when it occurred and inadvertently, half asleep, reached out to calm the cat not even knowing what was happening to her. This unique situation necessitated the doctors need to inform me of the medical implications for myself, my other pet and the countys need for protecting the pet population. He consulted with Animal Control and had them talk to me while I was in the vets office. No hyperbole only professionalism by him and the county agent explaining all possible outcomes and medical possibilities that may be encountered. Excellent staff assistant to the veterinarian as well. This was not an ongoing treatment scenario which would be different but if their end of life care was this professional and humane I would expect their other services to be equally caring and professional. I will not tell you the cost, not because it was excessive, it was astonishingly reasonable. Realistically, cost is an important component of care and I doubt what I was charged was an everyday, coded, by-the-book cost. I will not include it in this review because I would not hold them to that fee if it was not a published cost by the office. If anything it demonstrates their flexibility to individual circumstances and events that affect your pets health. Kudos, and thank you.

Excellent care for my two cats at a reasonable price. We were new to Asheville and had no idea which Vet to use until we came across "The Best of Asheville" published in the Asheville Citizens Times News Paper. I mean...you cant go wrong with a "Best of Asheville" nominated Vet right? WRONG....People, dont be fooled like I was with "The Best of Asheville" list that rates Veterinarians among other business. Redwood Animal Hospital has some really good and caring Vets & Staff and their prices are very reasonable....to that point....my cats teeth cleaning at Redwood was almost $300 less expensive than my previous Vet (a Best of Asheville nominated Vet). Even his pre-teeth cleaning blood work was half of what my previous Vet would have charged!! My thanks goes out to the friend of my wife who recommend Redwood Animal Hospital as a less expensive and very caring/competent alternative to the so called "Best of Asheville" Vets. If you try them....youll understand what Im saying!!

I cried when I left after my first visit, because I was so relieved to finally find a safe place to bring my pets, with staff and a vet that I can trust. After bad experiences at Haw Creek and Fairview, and horrible experiences at Skyland, I had all but given up on honest care. Dr. Elledge sat on the floor with my dog, petting him and talking with me about options for his care, about subjects that we were not even there to address. I was amazed. An urgent visit for my cat was handled efficiently, competently, and professionally by a tech under Dr Elledges direction. Despite being busy with scheduled animals, Dr Elledge took the time to make sure that we were pleased and that my pet was good to go before we left. As an added bonus, fees are reasonable. They are wonderful!

My family and I have been using Doug Elledge and Redwood Animal Hospital for close to 15 years. When we first moved here, Doug and his staff were excellent care takes for our family companions. Since then, he has rushed service multiple times and barely stopped to explain his reasoning. He doesnt draw titers and refused me when I asked, saying they were expensive and there was nothing wrong with over-vaccinating a dog. Sorry Doug, I know youre retiring soon but if you read this please slow down and remember your core values that kept you in business in East Asheville so long, you can be a great vet when you take the time. In conclusion, Im taking my business and pets elsewhere.

I am so glad I found this place! They treated my timid dog so well. Also, they take care of the issue and do not try and sell you into additional services or insurance schemes. They do what needs to be done, but are sensitive to price. I would never bargain for services that my dog needs, but I do not fear the bill because they are incredibly sensitive to these things and have very reasonable prices. They are flexible and compassionate if your dog is sick and will likely see you without an appointment. I love that they are efficient veterinarians, however, they may overlook somethings with your animal as a result so speak up if you think your animal needs something specific.

Took my puppy here for the first time and was beyond impressed! From the second we came in I felt so welcome..very friendly and family like atmosphere. My puppy was adored and loved on by all of the staff. The doctor was knowledgeable, kind, and quick. Total time there was 30 minutes.. quickest I have ever been in a vet office. In the past I have hated vet visits more than my dogs, but no longer! I am beyond thankful to have found a place that I actually look forward to bringing my puppy for care!

Stellar People, I feel very comfortable with the experience both I and my dog have as well as the depth of knowledge the Doctors are coming with. They are really great and down to earth. They are extremely affordable and dont try to push anything on you that seems out of the ordinary, etc. Ive had some rather bizarre experiences with the vets here and these guys are buy far the ones I would recommend before any other place around. Your pet is in good hands with these folks.

I took my pets here for years until they had all passed on. They were very caring and sympathetic even at the death of my last pet. During the same time period my mother passed away and the nursing home showed little sympathy These folks send a card of sympathy when my cat and dog died but not the nursing home and we spent tens of thousands of dollars with them. That has always stood out in my mind. Some folks are caring and some are not.

The doctors are knowledgable, very honest, recommend alternate surgical options, including "no surgery."(Even though if I chose this option, they got nothing.) Not driven by greed! Their love of animals is obvious in how they interact with them. Their staff is very nice, too. I wish they could be my doctors! They were recommended by a friend. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Keith Reason, or Dr. Doug Ellege to anyone with a beloved pet.

We love the staff and adore Dr. Elledge. Theyve provided wonderful care for all of our pets from feline diabetes, canine degenerative arthritis, to odd growths that required a specialist. What animal wouldnt love a vet that gets right on the floor with them and lets them sit on his lap?! All while you, pet mommy or daddy is getting a very extensive explanation of your pets condition. And to top it off their rates really are reasonable.
