I work at Moyock Animal Hospital...and have since it opened back in 1998. I have read the reviews complaining about the hospital and felt compelled to address them. First of all....Many practices will not declaw cats (ever).. as it is a very invasive surgery with many possible complications. We here at Moyock Animal Hospitals do routine declaws and do NOT feel it is a "horrible procedure". It is however, something ideally done when a cat is young (5-6 months of age which translates to 5-6 lbs of body weight) because it is a bony removal of the upper portion of the "toes". It is 14 days of misery that can return a pet to the welcome status in a inside only home environment vs being kicked outside to face the world or worse yet "given away" due to destructive clawing of furniture, walls, drapes, etc. So, as we do not "encourage " declaws...we do understand that there is a fine line between love and hate when faced with physical destruction of your home due to clawing and ,so , agree that sometimes it is a necessary "evil" for lack of a better term. As a general rule a cat is "over weight at 12 lbs"...... Female cats should weigh at adulthood between 6 and 9 lbs, and Male cats should weigh between 8 and 10 lbs. (obviously these are averages and there are some cats who weigh more or less due to breeding...may still be at ideal weight) I owned a male cat who weighed in at 14 lbs and was at ideal weight. Having said all of this...he still was too heavy for a routine declaw....because, I have already explained , that declaws are an invasive procedure that require your pet to walk on feet that have had the upper portion of their toes REMOVED...the more weight, the more complications and more discomfort. We have never made a client feel " like a criminal" for asking about a declaw...but we have refused to do declaws on clients who are "unwilling to listen to the risks" or unwilling to properly address the cats "overall health". Older, overweight animals would probably do better with a laser type declaw, unfortunatly not available here. For the most part, when a client is unhappy with us...it is because they are not interested in education or look at their pet as nothing more than an obiligation ( a finacial burden). We pride ourselves with giving thorough and comprehensive information to any and all willing to listen. As for the " rude staff " I will admit that we are at times very busy at the front desk....and that may come across as "less than warm and fuzzy" but I can assure you that if anyone leaves a message...or comes into this practice they will find some of the most educating and top notch staff that work together, despite the the lack of hours in a day, to assist you and your pet(s) to the best of our abilitly.

We were referred to Dr. Tracy (Dr.Eure) by a lifelong newfie breeder friend of ours. If she says, hes good, trust me, he HAS to be good!!! Our newfie is 5 years old and has had a myriad of ailments which have been uncomfortable for her and very concerning for us. While all of the vets we have dealt with have been qualified and professional, none of them gave us peace of mind like Dr. Tracy. He spent a lot of time with us, addressing all of our concerns and made us feel like our girl was his favorite patient. My husband and I have no doubt that he makes everyone feel this way. Its so refreshing to find someone so passionate about their work and their patients. Because we live in Virginia Beach and Dr. Tracy is in Moyock, we were initially only going to take our newfie there and keep our golden at our current vet. By the end of our appointment, I went to the front desk and made an appointment for our golden as well. It is so worth the time and the drive. Weve also dealt with Dr. Tracys staff, both on the phone and in person and they were extremely nice, professional and helpful. We recommend Dr. Tracy without hesitation to EVERYONE!!!!

If I could give Moyock Animal Hospital 500 stars I would! Ive been taking all my pets to see Dr. Tracy and the whole staff of Moyock Animal Hospital ever since I moved here from Florida, they are so wonderful! I cannot stress how much it means to me to have a vet that I completely trust with the care of my pets for everything from simple yearly visits to sick visits and those repeated allergy visits that we all hate. I love how they explain why they want to do a particular test or take x-rays instead of either not offering it or just saying this is what we want without any help in understanding why. They have explained my dog going into early kidney disease with such knowledge and helped make me not be a basket case while learning that, and assured me that if I were to have any questions EVER they were just a phone call away, they were there for me emotionally during horrible times of having to put my elderly pets to sleep. You arent just getting a great doctor and medical staff, youre getting great people that honestly care about you and your pets when you choose Moyock Animal Hospital.

Weve brought our furry family members to Dr. Tracy Eure at Moyock Animal Hospital since the summer of 2000. Everyone at MAH is nice, & Jennah is especially knowledgeable & helpful. Dr Tracy is the most skilled, caring, compassionate Veterinarian weve ever met, & its obvious that he loves animals. Hes great about answering questions, takes the time to explain whats going on with your pet, what tests need to be performed & why, & he explains all of the different treatment methods available so you can make the best decision for your pet. Hes so dedicated to taking care of animals that hes even accepted payment arrangements for emergencies that came up with our dogs in the past. Weve never heard of another Animal Hospital as dedicated to taking care of animals as MAH. Thats why we continue to drive to Moyock even though weve moved back to Virginia Beach, & well always continue to bring our pets to Dr. Tracy. Theyre the best!

Good luck getting past the girls at the front desk. If they so lower themselves so as to talk to you, expect them to be rude and curt. If not, youll be waiting. For some time. On the good side, once you actually do get back to see Dr. Tracy Eure, youll meet a guy who is very nice to your animal and generally pretty helpful. On the bad, be prepared to pay and come back for multiple follow-ups for the most minor of things and get charged an office visit each time. I held on for three years because of Dr. Eure but the last straw was when one of the clerks up front refused to renew my heartworm pills and wanted to charge yet another office visit for their shoddy record keeping. As if they would know everywhere and every time I ever bought heartwork pills over my dogs 13 year life to know what my supply might be. Absurd. I wont be wasting my time or my money there anymore.

My first visit to Moyock Animal Hospital was in April 2013. I own 2 cats and a dog. They were so good with my little dog. I dropped her off for her 1 year check up and it was really convenient. I was able to pick her up at the end of the day and didnt have to miss work. They treated my little angel like royalty. They appear to really LOVE animals and go out of their way to explain medical treatments, prevention, etc. I have been to vets who try to sell everything in their inventory to me because they say my animal "needs" it. That was not my experience in Moyock. I felt comfortable and didnt feel like I was being "taken in". Its a shame that some vets have resulted to such behavior. Moyock is also reasonably priced compared to some vets in the Hampton Roads area. Even if its a drive, I would recommend the trip to Moyock Animal Hospital! You wont regret it!
