This place is absolutely ridiculous. To make a long story short, I was referred to see Dr. Perry, an Internist at Blue Pearl, by my vet after about 4 months of my dog having chronic diarrhea and vomiting. We had an 11 am appointment and were the only ones in the lobby. After waiting for about 30 minutes, we were finally called back and spoke with a tech who took my puppys medical history. She then pulled out an estimate of the cost of tests they wanted to run- we hadnt even spoken with a doctor yet and she had this printed out before we even discussed my dogs symptoms. That is a REALLY bad look. The tests included a $600 ultrasound, which we agreed to because we figured it was our only option. They told us the test would be about 30-45 minutes. After waiting for an hour and a half, we finally asked enough times that they took us back to a room to talk to Dr. Perry- which IN ITSELF is $122!!! For the internal specialist to tell me that the tests didnt show anything and that my dog is skinny!! She also went over my dogs symptoms AFTER the ultrasound!! She then proceeds to tell us that the problem could be his adrenal glands, which she couldnt see because he was "wiggling too much" - Im sorry but I expect this test to be completed if Im paying that much money for it. Dont come back to me with a half completed test. She could have anesthetized him, given him something else to calm him down or had me go back there to help calm him, but they were too lazy to make sure that the test was completed properly. She then suggested doing a food trial- why couldnt we have tried that as a first option before doing the extensive testing? This place is completely out to get your money and thats it. Thats like me walking into a doctors office with a stomach ache, and the doctor doing ultrasounds before asking me what I ate that day. They then took almost an hour to "prepare him for discharge" (my dog was not given any medication, it should NOT take that long) and to bag up food for the trial. They said we would get a weeks worth of food and I was given about 2 days worth, which is not even enough to tell if its working. I called on Wednesday and did not hear back from anyone. I called again this morning to ask about getting more food since I was only given 2 days worth, and the refuse to give me more food for the trial when they didnt give me enough to begin with to see if the food is actually helping. There is no way to tell in 2 days when he might have IBS- changing his food at all will cause his tummy to be upset for a few days. All in all: I just threw $600 down the drain for the internal medicine specialist to do a half completed test and then give literally no explanation of anything. They didnt give us any other options until AFTER we did the expensive testing. A 30-45 minute appointment turned into a 3 hour visit. And now I have to buy a $100 bag of food before even knowing if its helping? This place is a joke and Im telling everyone I know never to go here.

I have to admit, I usually do not give bad reviews on Vets or Animal Hospitals. However, I am upset with todays visit to Blue Pearl Animal Hospital. My current vet suggested that my husband and I take my dog to the hospital since she dealing with vomiting and loose stool that mostly consist of water. My husband took my fur-baby while I attended class, however, I had to explain to my professor that I had to leave because my husband called me during class. My husband informed me that they wanted to run testing on my dog that including but not limited to X-Rays (×2), extensive blood work, Fecal examine (which we provided), full examine, and other test as well. During this time, we also had our kitty that we adopted to be examine as well since she was dealing with some kind of Upper Respiratory Infections that caused her to sneezed uncontrollable that left her with blood on one side of her nosal cavity. The vet also wanted to do extreme tested after I explain the cause from her illness because it was the same when I adopted her. Anyhow, we allowed the vet to continue further testing for our dog since we figure there was something really wrong. Well, lets just say, we were in a room that you could not see what they were doing to my dog, I understand we cant be there during x-rays but they literally did everything back in the room except for the examine. My husband and I waited for more than 20 mins for anyone to come back with the results, which I understand it takes time to X-Rays, etc. However, the vet came in without my dog and proceed to inform us that they did all this testing and they found that my dogs white blood cells are a little higher than normal and then proceed to tell us that the area that show the pancreas is a little swollen. However, the vet continues to tell us it "could" be pancreatitis, or IBS, or Parasites Diesease (which the test came back negative) and a whole lot of it "could" be diagnoses. The vet also explains that they gave my dog 2 injections. As a result, we did not get a 100% answer nor a clear one at that on the judgement of my dog diagnosis. I figure with all the test that was done, we would know something clear on my dogs diagnosis. Therefore, my husband and I was sent home with some "Dewormer" and Metronidazole for her loose stool. What really upset my husband and I was the cost of such visit. We had to pay 900 dollars for speculations. I walked out of that hospital feeling scam, unsatisfied and now i have to make appointment at my vet for testing to see if my dog has pancreatitis, etc. I will not recommend nor visit this hospital ever again! If you need to bring your pets to a emergency vet for something serious, then heed my advise and research ones that actually care and give results knowing it costing as so much money. The Vets suggestions are not always that best advise!

Okay so it all started when my 9 year old chihuahua got injured and broke his leg. We took him to the blue pearl in Chesapeake near Greenbrier mall after Banfield couldnt do a thing for him or even give him pain meds! Needless to say starting there they did X-rays and blood work and charged us almost $1000 ! When in the end we had to take him to the blue pearl in Virginia Beach to consult about surgery to fix it. All night he was up in pain because the pain meds that were supposed to work didnt work. Next day we take him in and luckily they were able to do the surgery that afternoon. Costing us 3700. Now theyve already gotten almost 5000 out of us in a matter of two days. When we pick him up the next day he had a cast on that didnt last a day it had slipped off. When going back in to get a replacement they wanted to charge us $84!!! We said no and they shouldnt add insult to injury with a cast that didnt last. Even though the swelling in his leg mustve went down ok. Then we will try this again. They replaced it only a cast that covered is leg. Well it slipped off again in only a days time. We wanted a butterfly wrap done and again they tried to charge us $84 and they didnt do a butterfly wrap like we asked. They waived the first fee of the cast replacement and the second they only charged $30 well we took him in a third time sure enough for a cast replacement which this time they did as we asked and butterfly wrapped it. This one lasted to when he was scheduled to have staples removed. So great but when they returned him to us with a new butterfly wrap, we noticed it was loose and sure enough 3 days later were back in for a replacement because it slipped down and he was in pain from it ... 4 times weve been here for a cast replacement. And we feel like a nuisance when we walk inside. We dont want to prolong the dogs injury anymore than it already is. Everybody here knows his name but Im afraid its not for the best of reasons.. blue pearl is an alright place but Im afraid their casting skills I could do better. The doctor that worked on my dog was good but nursing staff not so much. Dont let them walk over you. Read up on places before you go and get pet insurance while you still can!!!
