My mother fell, hit her head and was killed in this facility. The reason she fell is because of the poor quality of service she was receiving - no response at times and response times greater than 20 minutes . She was spoken to rudely and one CNA told her to dress herself that she was capable. My mother was 88 years old, frail and wheelchair bound. I spoke with the staff members multiple times regarding their lack of attention to my mother. On multiple occasions, her oxygen tank was empty and we would have to track down a nurse or ANYBODY to tell them she needed more oxygen. The halls were frequently empty with NO ONE in site. No one ever sat at the desk and the call buttons to the rooms do not have speakers so a persons light could stay on for a very long time before anyone came to see what was needed. This is why my mother got up and fell - poor attention to her needs. In addition, the doctor who signed her death certificate said my mother died from a heart attack. He has no idea if she had a heart attack, but we are 100% certain that the blow to her head when she fell did kill her. He never examined her body and was contacted over the phone when she was found dead. Her death certificate says "heart attack". Also, my mother was on oxygen. Her oxygen tank, which lasted 3 hours cost $24/a tank. I have since learned that each facility charges different prices for oxygen tanks. There is the charge for the actual oxygen and then an ADMINISTRATIVE fee to administer the oxygen. At the rate my mother was going, her bill to stay in this facility well might have reached $9,000/month. Please ask up front at any facility if your family member needs oxygen and what the price per tank will be. Please do not take your family members to this facility. I cannot help my mother now, but I can try and protect others from this horrible place.

The incident in the review by Patricia Nicholson is a true story. I was a resident at Universal on the afternoon it happened. Her mom was asking for help and no one would answer. She tried to help herself and fell. From what I heard, she was a patient whose door was not supposed to be shut, but they wanted her to be quiet so they shut the door. All other comments are true as well, from the non-response to call bells to the rudeness of the staff. That is almost all of the staff, not just the CNAs. There are a few good seeds. The aides like to sit in the hallway and watch movies on their phones, and get mad if theyre interrupted. Theyve been seen sleeping in cars in the parking lot or in empty rooms. Its not uncommon to see the desk and hallways empty and every call light lit, but no response. At times I was left waiting for 2 to 3 hours for any response. I had a phone in my room and many times I had to call the nurses desk to get a response. Sometimes the phone calls would also go unanswered. I had called a few times to try to get help for Patricias mother, and there were times she tried to get help for me too. And one last thing. The food is atrocious. We tried the suggested channels to complain (i.e., the staff, ombudsman, etc.). We ended up submitting a complaint to the state. We were told other complaints were also submitted. The state has been in to investigate, but nothing ever changed. In fact, it feels as though the staff retaliates with worse care when reprimanded. I was lucky I have the ability to speak up, but many of the residents dont have the faculties to raise their own complaints; or they are not taken seriously. Bottom line is, do not put your loved ones through this!

My mother spent the last five months of her life at this facility. The standard of care she received truly deserves a zero star rating. Finally, the standard of care was so poor that we had to bring my mother home so she could transition in a loving caring environment. The staff is nice but consistently lack of training. They also speak poorly of the workplace environment, low wages and disparate treatment. The patient hardly ever sees an MD. My mother was in severe leg pain and all they could offer was an x-ray. The reason her leg hurt is because they forgot one of her medicines and she lacked potassium thus leg pain. This resulted in a hospital visit, extreme discomfort and our family sleeping at the hospital with her. When she got back 4 days later they had given away her private room which made her depressed. We got her out of there fast. Now that my mother is with the Lord, I wont even drive past this facility. Far too many bad memories.

Do not send your loved one here. My grandmother is unable to feed herself and we have been there several times and everyone is eating while shes just sitting there helpless even though there are orders to assist her in eating. There are other incidents however if I put them on here they will be able to identify who my grandma is and I dont want them taking out their aggravation (about this review or anything else) on her. The turnover rate is high and they dont care about the patients. I dont understand the person/people on here who rated this place 5 stars. Its probably the staff. Do NOT send your loved one here.

We have been dealing with Universal Healthcare since March 2016 to pay us for services rendered for one of their patients... and I had the unfortunate experience to deal with TERESA HARRIS who is RUDE, Condescending, and informed me that she did not have time to deal with us and to fax another invoice to them! I honestly dont know how they have such nasty folks in their employment. I would be very afraid to have any of my elderly relatives in their care! SCARY!!!!

Be careful if you have Medicare or Medicaid theyll take you from your love one to fill out some papers then while you are gone theyll get your love one to sign some papers and slip one in to allow them to keep you longer than your insurance will cover then sick the bill on you I will no longer trust them with the care of my love one and if I had to ill tell my love one to not sign anything until she has someone that she can trust to look them over

My mother just got home from Universal today. She was in the rehab section. She could have not gotten better care anywhere. Staff would not let her walk a single step without supervision. The food was wonderful, the therapy had her in better condition than she had been in in years. It was a positive experience for her and the family. So thankful for them.

For god’s sake do not send your loved ones to this place. There are some really strange practices going on here. I had one of my family members there they strangely had broken arms and feet and had to be constantly hospitalized. Thank god I got them out now all those incidents have ceased. DO NOT PUT YOUR FAMILY IN THIS PLACE!!! You will regret it!
